  1. We don't know the situation. It's possible Doug wanted him back, but Russell saw a better chance to play more in Seattle and take one last chance at solidifying his career.
  2. Their only 1B on the 40 man roster is a 25 year old named Bryan Lahair. He looks to be mediocre at best. This is a great opportunity for Russell. Good luck to him. One of my favorite players. I am sad to see him go. Here's hoping he stays healthy enough to play a full season. To bad it's a Safeco. Ugh.
  3. Good luck to him.
  4. Bush has more value as a Brewer than as trade bait right now.
  5. I give the voters credit for passing on Mattingly so far. He had 4 outstanding seasons in a row, followed by two more pretty good ones, then was done. That's not enough. It'd be like voting in Nomar Garciaparra. Mattingly is one of the most overrated players of all time. Kudos to the voters for getting this one right so far. Gil Hodges is another one.
  6. Herb Pennock played for both the Red Sox and Yankees for a long, long time. He isn't HOF worthy though. 3500 ip, 3900 hits, 1227 Ks, 916 bb's. 3.60 ERA vs league ERA of 3.80. It's kinda like Suppan getting in if he pitches till he's 40. Lefty Gomez is also questionable, imho. I would have no problem with Joe Gordon getting in though. Bobby Doerr is in--their rate stats are nearly identical--and they played in almost the exact same era.
  7. I agree Invader. For some reason the 1980's seems to be the most underrepresented decade in the Hall. I wonder if this has to do with the parity in the league. When one team, like the 96-2001 Yankees, is winning championships every year, it seems writers eventually vote in half the roster. But from 82-88 the AL sent a different team to the Series each year--Brewers-Orioles-Tigers-Royals-Red Sox-Twins-A's. It's like the writers can't keep track of all the good players from the 80's because they were spread across so many teams.
  8. This article from the Baltimore Sun lists the Orioles as that 3rd team: http://www.baltimoresun.c...ioles1129,0,3629851.story Orioles would get Pie and Padres would get Garrett Olson from the Orioles. As an Orioles fan I think this proposal is ridiculous. Pie is the second coming of Corey Patterson and Olson is a lefty starter who has stalled in the majors but put up good minor league numbers.
  9. I guess I'd go for a deal with the Yankee pitchers. Cabrera is Noo Yawk hype, an extremely overrated player.
  10. I like the nods to Trammell. In the past I argued passionately for the guy. Frankly, he and Lou Whitaker are probably both deserving. The 3 best ss in the AL in the 1980's were Yount, Ripken and Trammell. Yount won MVP in '82, Ripken in '83, and Trammell won WS MVP in '84. There wasn't a huge difference between these three in their peak years. Trammell didn't run up the counting stats due to a lot of injury plagued seasons after he turned 30. Among the 22 ss in the HOF he would rank 11th in hits, 5th in hr's, 9th in doubles, 12th in *OPS+.
  11. Blyleven, Henderson, and Raines. It's about more than counting stats and how long you played. Raines was a dynamite player from 1981 when he burst onto the scene at 21, until 1993 when he put up a Pedroia/MVP type season of .306/.401/.480. That's 12 years in a row of peak performance, with 7 straight All Star appearances during that run. Admittedly he lost his speed sometime after that and wasn't an everyday player, but he could still hit and get on base. He was a dominant player for 12 years. According to baseball-reference.com he's 53rd all time in Runs Created. The voters need to get better at analyzing peak performers who don't have the counting stats.
  12. I always had those guys mixed up too. Until Hillebrand got into a fight with the Blue Jays manager and was traded. After that I was able to keep 'em straight.
  13. I like this from BuckyChannel: Let me add I agree with TooLiveCrew. Every sports network has a cute "sideline" reporter now. Trenni is the only one I can think of who actually was a Sports Broadcaster. Apparently MLB Network realized this too. good for them. And good for her.
  14. I'd like to think the Brewers would try to sweeten his current deal to keep him here. I'm sure Ueck wants to do PbP until he's 90, but the reality is, it may be getting time to scale him back a bit. The organization sure wouldn't want to lose both of these guys in the space of a year or two. It's hard for me to imagine to Powell would leave at this point, but you have to do what's best for your career and family......
  15. Renteria has 2070 career hits. He turned 33 in August, so he has a decent chance to reach 3,000 hits. A good player/ss, but do you think he's had a HOF career?
  16. Cripes why don't they just move Fontenot to RF then?
  17. I would not trade Parra for DeJesus!
  18. Great idea! If they re-sign Ben he can be his personal catcher and trainer!
  19. He was a ss at UW-L too, I think.
  20. He was the 2nd or 3rd best right hadned pitcher in the league from 1992-2003. Only Clemens was better, then Pedro when he came to Boston in 1998. That's 12 years as a dominant major league starter. ( of his 17 full season he finished in the top 6 for Cy Young. He's every bit the pitcher Jim Palmer was. It's not Yankee bias for me; I hate the Yankees. He's a HOF'er.
  21. I'd like to see him and Weeks batting 1 & 2. Or possible move Hardy to 2nd and Weeks further down in the order.

  25. Oh, you are right! I am very sorry to run his name through the muck. I always got Karl and Juden mixed up. My bad. Great interview splitter.
