  1. Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns confirmed Friday that Keston Hiura will move to first base this season. It was the expectation after the team signed Kolten Wong, a move they officially announced Friday. "We believe he can do this," Stearns said Friday of Hiura's move to first base. Hiura has only played second base as a pro, but he's been one of the worst fielders in baseball there and there's always been speculation that he could move positions eventually. It's happening probably earlier than the Brewers expected, but it's also likely for the best. With Hiura moving to first, Daniel Vogelbach is now a bench bat, assuming there's no universal designated hitter. RELATED: Daniel Vogelbach SOURCE: Tom Haudricourt on Twitter Feb 5, 2021, 11:03 AM ET
  2. Sogard?
  3. Would love one in this order: Paxton Walker - - Hill I doubt you are getting Walker that "cheap" though.
  4. As most of us here can painfully attest, be very wary of random people online that claim to have inside info, as it's completely unverifiable and usually 100% garbage. See High Heat. lol
  5. OMG what? We have a nice 1-2, and nothing but question marks after. OMG, that rotation sucks!
  6. I think with all the analyzing going on, we will see so many different line-ups next year (as always) that in the end, we still won't have a set line-up. Unless of course we actually come up with a real 3B or 1B. We seem to have a lot of interchangeable guys (at least according to posters here). It has not been confirmed that Hiura will play 1B, or that Wong will slide over to 3B. At this time, there has been nothing confirmed about the plans for Urias either. Will he be playing a lot of 3B? SS? Is Arcia still our primary SS? Our infield is still a mess. I think there are still moves on the horizon that could clear some of this up.
  7. I don't care who they replace them with either... My point was, they aren't going to trade them without replacements in their system, or guys that they get in return on a trade... Do you know if they have replacements on the cusp of joining the A's in 2021?
  8. I don't think you can count last year... What would he have been in 2019 with his 2019 stats? In 2019 his wRC+ of 140 would have put him 3rd out of 21 qualifiers, just after Alonso (143) and Rizzo (142), and ahead of Freeman (138), Santana (136), and Olson and Bell (both 135). Woa! I hope that Hiura returns for 2021!
  9. I don't think you can count last year... What would he have been in 2019 with his 2019 stats?
  10. With Wong in the fold, let's get wild and revisit what I posted above. Would this deal get any traction with the A's: Keston Hiura, Josh Hader, Garrett Mitchell and Brice Turang for Matt Chapman and Matt Olson Without getting into analysis of the fairness of the deal for either side or long term implications of depleting the farm, a lineup of Cain-Yelich-Chapman-Olson-Garcia-Narvaez-Wong-Urias sure looks sexy on paper. Who would the A's replace Chapman and Olson with? If they are set to get expensive, that goes against what we are all about... So basically, we'd aquire them, only to have to trade them mid season in 2022 because we wouldn't be able to pay them both...
  11. Hes a short 6' Ive seen other listings he is 5' 11" you can't tell me he doesn't look smaller than listed. This may not bring a trade but use a Hiura option. If he doesnt look the best during ST Hiura should take a return to the minors. Bat in ST notwithstanding. Maybe this solves the lineup to have Wong leadoff-L, Cain -R, and Yelich-L 3rd Not a chance in hell Hiura goes back to the minors...
  12. If we trade Hiura, then we're back to needing a 1B. Not if he is traded for a 1B. We would atill need a 3B though.
  13. Not that we had a real chance, but I think we can kiss Justin Turner goodbye with the signing of Wong...
  14. Zero innings in his pro career. So safe to say probably a hard no. Why pay a premium for his defense to make it worse? Guessing he is our 2B. I'm not saying to play him there, I would be totally against putting a bat like that at 3B...
  15. Can Wong play 3B?
  16. That is a lot of $, wow. It seems like we could spend that kind of money elsewhere. His offense is not a needle mover by any means. I want to like it, but I just can't. I am wondering if this is just a part of a flurry of moves on the horixzon?
  17. FanSided's Robert Murray reports that free agent right-hander Chase Anderson has reached an agreement with the Phillies. It's a one-year contract, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network, and will carry a $4 million guaranteed salary. Anderson became a free agent in late October when the Blue Jays made the easy decision to decline his $9.5 million club option for 2021, paying him a $500,000 buyout instead. The 33-year-old struggled to the tune of a 7.22 ERA over 33 2/3 innings in 2020, but he was an effective major league starter not long ago with the Brewers and he should get a chance to compete for one of the final spots in the Philadelphia rotation. 18. I can't disagree with anything you said...
  19. Why not? Stick him at 1B, seems anyone can play 1B. Why is he not signed yet? Why was he not signed last year? Personally, I can't stand the guy, but if he can be had at a reasonable price for a 1 year deal, why not klick the tires? God, it would be hard to root for him though...
  20. All this talk of Hiura to 1B... Has he ever played an inning there in his professional career?
  21. Trade Burnes, who do we replace him with? People who want to trade Burnes and or Woodruff, what would your plans be for the rotation? We finally have some homegrown cheap talent and people want to trade them off?
  22. Why the 4th outfielder when we still have no legit 1B?
  23. Question for the experts: (which is pretty much everyone here who does all the research...impressive!) The vaccine from what I understand, will not prevent you from getting the virus, but instead just makes the symptoms lesser than not having the vaccine. (hopefully prevents people from serious symptoms, hospitalization, and/or death.) Is this a fair take?
  24. How far off is McKinney from the big team?
  25. Hiring a woman for a position like this is not normal, it's different, so of course it will be questioned. Frankly, I don't care one way or the other. If she is qualified for the position, have at it. If she was hired for the position because she is a woman, then that is ridiculous imo. I am not saying that is what happened, so before anyone jumps to conclusions, that is not the case. Maybe I'm not as woke as some, but I'm all for hiring the most qualified person for the position, regardless of gender, skin color, etc... If that person is a woman, great, hire her! If that person is a 45 year old white guy who has earned the job based on his qualifications, and he is the best candidate, he should be hired. I don't want people hired to represent my sports teams based on quotas or equality, I want the best person available, that in the long run, provides us the best opportunity to win. I think it is pretty natural for a hire like this to raise eyebrows because like I said above, it's different. HiAndTight's post above is excellent.
