  1. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Brewers are unlikely to sign free agent DJ LeMahieu The Brewers have been linked to LeMahieu as a potential replacement at second base, but Feinsand reports that Milwaukee no longer is interested with the signing of Yasmani Grandal taking up most -- if not all -- of the remaining budget. It's possible the Brewers will trade for a second baseman, or they could just go with a stopgap until star prospect Keston Hiura is (hopefully) ready this summer. 2. Is Harrison any better than Perez? Seriously? I think Harrison sucks. He may be a good locker room guy and well liked, but is he going to put wins up for us? Hard pass, no interest.
  3. Make the Bumgarner trade and give up some key pieces of the farm, or our starting roster. I'd much rather spend the money for one season than mortgage our future by trading away controlled talent.
  4. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins are "engaged in substantive discussions with six clubs" regarding a J.T. Realmuto trade. Those six clubs have been identified as the Braves, Dodgers, Astros, Padres, Rays, and Reds. The asking price remains sky-high on Realmuto, but it seems to be a near certainty that he will be dealt away before the beginning of spring training next month. The 27-year-old catcher slashed .277/.340/.484 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 125 games last season for the rebuilding Marlins. He is under team control through 2020 via salary arbitration. Source: Marlins.mlb.comJan 10 - 1:15 PM ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm pretty happy we went the free agent route rather than the trade your farm route...
  5. ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Giants are "talking with teams" about a potential Joe Panik trade. There are still good second basemen available via free agency, so the Giants would probably have to sell low here to get something done. Panik battled multiple injuries last season and hit just .254/.307/.332 with four home runs and 24 RBI in 102 games. The 28-year-old is under team control through 2020. Source: Jeff Passan on TwitterJan 10 - 10:50 AM ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Panik and MadBum to Milwaukee? I don't have a lot of interest in Panik myself.
  6. ...but he kind of sucks. I just don't want anything to do with this guy.
  7. Man, really wanted him on a one year deal... Gonzalez would be nice if he takes Perez's roster spot.
  8. I think we can put this thread to bed......finally. By bowing out of the JT market though, someone is going to be getting an even better deal. Every time his market shrinks, the team that finally lands him probably gets a better deal.
  9. I would really hate having to root for this guy though. It would be a moral dilemma.
  10. ...and technically, he didn't solve the Dodgers problems either. (although a trip to the world series and losing is better than no trip at all....or is it?)
  11. Poor Manny... Though it makes me feel good that he might not make his 300 million, he is still going to be beyond rich, whatever his contract ends up to be. Punk. According to Jon Heyman, neither the Phillies nor the White Sox have offered close to the $300 million-plus that free agent Manny Machado is requesting. There isn't so much pressure for them to go that high when the Yankees seem only willing to sign him at a bargain rate and no one else is in the mix at all. The market for Machado should be significantly hotter, but the entire league is more fixated on profits than winning. Source: Jon Heyman on TwitterJan 9 - 2:32 PM
  12. I was really hoping for an actual 2B in the off season, rather than the infield musical chairs scenario...
  13. I frankly can't see Stearns giving one of them up. We'll see if I'm wrong, I don't think MB warrants that caliber of return. I hope you are right... If things break right, we could see a rotation of Peralta, Woodruff, Burnes and Brown in just a couple of years.
  14. According to Fancred's Jon Heyman, the Mets have had recent talks with free agent Brian Dozier. The fit doesn't make much sense on paper given that the Mets acquired veteran second baseman Robinson Cano from the Mariners earlier this winter and also still have 2018 standout Jeff McNeil in the fold. This could simply be a case of kicking the tires from ultra-aggressive Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen. Heyman notes that Nationals and Rockies make far more sense for Dozier, and both teams presumably remain interested. Source: Jon Heyman on TwitterJan 8 - 7:22 PM
  15. According to MLB.com's Jon Morosi, the White Sox and Phillies are monitoring the Mike Moustakas market. It sounds like Moustakas is the fallback plan for each club should Manny Machado sign elsewhere. Morosi also pegs the Padres as a "potential suitor" for Moustakas, or a potential trade destination for Maikel Franco if the Phillies wind up landing Machado -- believed to be their top target, even ahead of Bryce Harper. Moustakas, 30, batted .251/.315/.459 with 28 home runs and 95 RBI in 162 games last year between the Royals and Brewers. Source: MLB.comJan 8 - 8:38 PM
  16. We really shouldn't be optioning guys to the minors that are making over 2 million bucks. If the Brewers don't think Davies is making the team, we should find a trade partner and ditch the salary or cut him before opening day and save 3/4 of his salary. I'll add that bringing in both Miley and MB would mean Davies and 1 other arm in the minors/out of the org. I would expect that we have at most 1 more pitching addition and that would likely result in Peralta being the 1st man out if everyone made it through ST healthy. Would be nice if we could trade Ray and Zach Davis for Bumgarner. To be honest, that almost seems too much for a one year rental. Davies is no slouch. I think a lot of us have forgotten his value based on his injuries last year... Not that I wouldn't do it if it was the only offer on the table, but it seems high to me.
  17. ok, thanks. hopefully they still have some left once the season rolls around.
  18. According to Craig Mish of SiriusXM, the Braves and Marlins "have talked again" about a J.T. Realmuto trade. Mish writes that the Braves "appear to be waiting [the] Marlins out" while adding that the Rays "remain possibility." There is also known to be some level of interest from the Dodgers, Padres, Astros, and Reds. Realmuto seems certain to be dealt before spring training gets underway, but it's hard to identify a frontrunner for his services at this point. Miami still wants a massive return for the 27-year-old catcher, who batted .277/.340/.484 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 125 games last season. He is under contractual control through 2020. Source: Craig Mish on TwitterJan 8 - 2:47 PM No mention of the Brewers.......He'll look nice in that Brewers uniform on opening day!
  19. According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, the Brewers would have to include a young starting pitcher to land Madison Bumgarner from the Giants. Morosi wrote Monday that Milwaukee is the most likely landing spot for Bumgarner, if the Giants do decide to part ways with the star left-hander this winter. He lists Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta as possible names that could intrigue the San Francisco front office. Bumgarner, who is set to become a free agent next offseason, posted a 3.26 ERA and 109 strikeouts over 129 2/3 innings last year after returning from a fractured pinkie. Source: Jon Morosi on TwitterJan 8 - 3:25 PM
  20. No way I'd trade Woodruff for one year of Bumgarner. That is crap...
  21. Jon Morosi of MLB Network believes the Brewers are the most likely landing spot in a trade for Madison Bumgarner. There have been reports that Bumgarner is available for quite some time, but the most recent rumblings have been that the southpaw will get dealt over the summer rather than the winter. The 29-year-old posted a 3.26 ERA last year, but he was limited to just 129 2/3 innings because of a fractured left pinkie a year after throwing only 111. What the Brewers would be willing to give up for Bumgarner is obviously the biggest question, as he'll be a free agent at the end of the year. Source: Tom Haudricourt on TwitterJan 7 - 9:42 AM
  22. Nope, not including Erceg. nope.
  23. Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Padres remain interested in acquiring Sonny Gray. Morosi also mentions that the Padres have made no progress in a deal for Corey Kluber, with earlier reports suggesting that the Indians want a Chris Sale-esque return for their ace. He also mentions that the availability of Gray -- once considered likely to be dealt -- may be the biggest issue now, as there are concerns that CC Sabathia may not be ready for the season after undergoing heart surgery. Gray's value would go up if he's pitching in the National League, but right now, there's a good chance he stays in the New York rotation -- at least until we see where Sabathia is in terms of his readiness.
