  1. Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that the Cubs are one of six teams that have been in contact with free agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. The Cubs plan to send a scout to Tulo's upcoming workout to get a feel for what he has left in the tank. With the Blue Jays on the hook for most of his salary, the 34-year-old could wind up being a nice bargain at the veteran's minimum, provided he's able to stay healthy, which is something he has struggled with throughout his career. The Tulowitzki camp has said that they plan to narrow the field of suitors soon. Related: Cubs Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter Dec 14 - 9:29 PM
  2. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox have no intention of trading Jose Abreu, even after acquiring Yonder Alonso from the Indians on Friday. There had already been rumblings that Abreu may have been available, and Friday's acquisition of Alonso seemed to put even more wood on that fire, but perhaps the two can co-exist in Chicago. Alonso is an extremely skilled defender and likely to be the everyday first baseman, which would force Abreu into a full-time DH role, something that in the past he has claimed he does not want to do. This could just be posturing on the White Sox' part in order to get a better offer for Abreu. Source: Bob NIghtengale on Twitter Dec 14 - 11:00 PM

  4. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports the Brewers are interested in free agent second baseman Jed Lowrie. The Brewers have an opening at second base now that Travis Shaw will be moving back to third base full time. They've previously been connected with Daniel Murphy and now they are pursuing Lowrie. Brewers' general manager David Stearns is familiar with Lowrie from their mutual time with the Astros in 2015. The 34-year-old Lowrie is coming off the best season of his career after batting .267/.353/.448 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI. Source: The Athletic Dec 15 - 4:10 PM
  5. Slotting Perez into a starting position is a giant mistake. I know there is love for him in Brewer nation, but as long as he is around, CC can't stop himself from giving him too much playing time. He makes a good super sub, but should not be part of a regular platoon or an everyday starter. He just isn't good enough with the bat, and can't consistantly get on base.
  6. The title of this thread is misleading as hell... I thought, based on that title, that we traded him. Maybe at least put a question mark on the end.
  7. We didnt walk out. We worked that day. Same here. _____________________________________________________________ "Rallying students?" lol "EVERY teacher pretty much wasted half a class..." Big broad strokes their buddy. You know not what you speak of. The professional teachers didn't allow their students to see how they felt, it's part of the deal. I have never, not once, let my students know my political affiliations.
  8. DHonks, right on!
  9. If you were a teacher, you'd find the comment below to be condescending, especially with so many mistruths in that one sentance...my reaction was just, my reaction...
  10. She wasn't "duped." She supported what was best for all, not just looking out for herself and the fat cat hacks that run the union. Her district ended up saving a ton of money on health insurance as a result of Act 10. Does "best for all" include the actual students she teaches? Saying that ACT 10 improved children's education is untrue, period... Removing money from the statewide education budget hurts the kids. Fewer teachers, due to budget cuts, is never a good thing for kids, no matter how you slice it. Packed classrooms with 35 or more kids due to hiring fewer teachers, or cutting positions to fit under the budget is not good for all. Please explain how her district saved a bunch of money due to ACT 10. I'd be interested in knowing that information. Also, I am actually not a democrat, so this is not political for me. I'm a conservative, and not afraid to say so. My feelings on the subject have nothing to do with politics, it has to do with the state of education since ACT 10 was passed, and it is all worse, in every possible way, which going back to my original statements, is why teachers are leaving our state and the profession at alarming rates. Fewer people are going into education too, which is also adding to the shortage we have now, and it's going to get worse, a LOT worse.
  11. IDK, this line of argument isn't quite right especially in such a condescending tone. They're paid for the year like any base salary. Just so happens you don't haaaaave to work for several weeks in a row. I know many do summer school and other stuff to supplement. It's really just a semantics thing and no reason to call anyone ignorant over it. Take X amount of money and pay it over 12 months or over 10 months, doesn't matter. You're paid the same. One could just as easily argue back that due to that long stretch of time off it allows to add other income whereas one who doesn't have that long stretch off can't. It isn't semantics at all. The summer months are not paid, not contracted. The general public often thinks that teachers complain about their pay, but get all that time off. It just isn't the case. Unpaid days such as spring breaks, Christmas vacations, and summer days are not included in our base salary. They are unpaid days.
  12. Game of Thrones, also a lock. Sandlot was extremely successful as well, and numerous teams jumped on that bandwagon, so another sandlot bobble is probably a given as well... That would make 8 more added to the 6 all fans, so 14 again... *sigh*
  13. By the way, time off in the summer is unpaid... Teachers do not get paid for days we don't work. That is another falsehood that the uneducated like to throw in our faces. Hence the reason a lot of teachers take on summer jobs, they don't get paid for summer vacation. That is not a complaint, I don't know a single teacher that complains about not being paid in the summer. As mentioned, we all knew that when we decided to go into teaching. The complaint is the ignorance of those who have no idea that we do not get paid for all those days off... That is uncontracted time.
  14. Whatever, but your "complete job security" comment is as false as false can be... There is no job security, none. If they want to get rid of you, they can, and will. The fact that people like you continue to spew untruths like job security, just takes away any credibilty you might have because your wife is a teacher. Glad to know your wife supported ACT 10, which basically dumped all over education in general, and her own job. ACT 10 made our entire education system weaker, which in the end, hurts kids. WI used to be one of the top states in the US in education, not anymore...
  15. Including the SSH Knebel bobble last year, there were 14 total bobbles last year. Only 4 were all fan giveaways, so 10 others... If that is the case again this year, there will be another 7 special event bobbles, plus the SSH bobble. It has become overkill for the collectors, just too damn many...
  16. That comment makes me realize that you have no idea what today's teaching profession is like, not a clue in the world... So many things so wrong with your statement, but the last part, "complete job security" is the funniest of all...
  17. This is where I am, however, I am "almost" beside myself, but not quite.
  18. Our pay is based on our Danielson artifacts... You want to see ridiculous? Sad. Yup, I'd be gone if I was 20 something...
  19. According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the J.T. Realmuto trade market is "essentially down to six teams: Reds, Mets, Rays, Braves, Dodgers, and Padres." There was an expectation that Realmuto would be traded at some point during this week's Winter Meetings, but that's not going to happen as teams are packing up and heading out of Las Vegas. The Marlins are still sifting through offers and trying to get multiple young players in return for the 27-year-old catcher. Realmuto batted .277/.340/.484 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI over 125 games this past season with Miami. He is under control through 2020. Source: Clark Spencer on TwitterDec 13 - 1:48 PM Don't see the Brewers listed...Probably see a press conference tomorrow announcing the trade to the Brewers...
  20. ACT 10 changed the landscape for teachers. It can't be denied. It also changed the landscape for the education, or lack of that our students now receive. Teachers bolting for other states, and leaving the profession all together is real... All the things NeedMoreFans mentioned are true. Lack of backbone by administration (seems to be across the board, not just some districts), cell phones, selfish student behavior, and all the other things that millennial parenting has brought on our society is a big giant energy suck from the daily life of a teacher. If I was in my 20's or even 30's, I'd be looking for a way out myself. The benefits are not what they once were, and the kids are not the same kids that were in classrooms when I started doing this 30 years ago. Since I have 3 more years after this one before retirement, I'm going to stick it out, but like I said, if I were younger, I'd have been out the door within a year of the ACT 10 nonsense that ruined this once great profession...
  21. Wisconsin teachers have it so good here, that droves of them are leaving for other states... Teacher shortage here in WI is in it's infant stages, but it's going to be really bad in the near future.
  22. And we gave up a draft pick and around $2 million of our bonus pool for this. Just wonderful. World Series contender. LHRP was a need. This guy fits the window. He does? On a world series contender? What about him screams a good pick up for a world series contender? If the only thing that fits the bill is him being left handed, this is a mistake.
  23. this. gross for sure. head scratcher.
  24. Struggled with injuries? he had one BIG injury that landed him on the DL at the beginning of the season, but as far as my memory goes, didn't miss a single start once he came back...
