  1. It was great, couldn't have asked for a better way to grow up. This was the mid to late 70's in Southwest Wisconsin. I am still in touch with some of those neighborhood kids, and we often talk about how great we had it...lol You're just repeating the plot of The Sandlot. lol luckily, it really was the way I described it. I was spoiled...
  2. Strange the Dodgers are not mentioned as a landing spot... Maybe they don't want to deal with his shenanigans any longer?
  3. I'm not a Yankee hater, far from it, but find this funny... Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that the Yankees' baseball operations and scouting departments are "lukewarm" on pursuing impending free agent Manny Machado. To be clear, this doesn't rule out the possibility that the Yankees will end up signing Machado anyway. However, Martino hears that the Yankees' baseball operations and scouting departments weren't thrilled with some of his actions during the postseason, including some plays which could be perceived as "dirty." It's something to consider with a player who will almost certainly receive a mega long-term contract this offseason, but we don't expect it will ultimately cost him very much, if anything at all. It's likely just posturing. Until Machado signs somewhere, the Yankees can't be ruled out. Source: SNY.tvOct 29 - 11:57 AM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports that the Yankees are doing "extensive" background work on Manny Machado. As Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports, teams always do background checks on potential acquisitions. It's the word "extensive" that stands out here. Rosenthal reports that manager Aaron Boone, scouts and front-office members have been making calls on the 26-year-old. There's been added scrutiny with Machado after being fined for his shenanigans during the NLCS and some perceived lack of hustle, but Rosenthal also reports that teammates like him. You can't blame them for doing their due diligence, anyway. Source: The AthleticNov 12 - 8:44 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In an interview with the YES Network, Yankees' owner Hal Steinbrenner reiterated his desire for a face-to-face meeting with free agent superstar Manny Machado. Steinbrenner indicated that he'd like the sit-down meeting so he would have a chance to discuss some of his controversial actions and comments during the postseason. The Yankees' boss said during the interview that, "there needs to be a sitdown before we're comfortable". The Yankees have been doing extensive background work on Machado and are seen as one of the favorites to land him this winter. Source: MLB.comNov 25 - 7:47 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ According to Andy Martino of SNY.tv, "many rivals believe" that the Yankees will ultimately pursue free agent Manny Machado. "Cash is on him, believe me," Martino was told by one rival executive. There was some question about the level of interest following Machado's actions during the postseason and his recent "Johnny Hustle" statement, but it's clear he's being considered. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said late last month that he's hoping to have a face-to-face meeting with the prized free agent. The Phillies are also expected to pursue Machado, even after their reported acquisition of shortstop Jean Segura from Seattle. As for the other top name on the market, Bryce Harper, Martino hears that the Yankees are not focused on him at the moment. Source: SNY.tvDec 3 - 12:33 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, the Yankees like and plan to meet with free agent Manny Machado. Heyman notes, however, that the Yankees will not pay $300 million to secure the superstar infielder. The Phillies and White Sox are currently seen as their main competition for Machado, though there are likely several other interested teams lurking in the shadows. Source: Jon Heyman on TwitterDec 9 - 6:46 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Monday that he's had "several conversations" with Manny Machado's agent, Dan Lozano, about the infielder. Cashman did his best Monday to shoot down the possibility of the Yankees pursuing Bryce Harper, but he's not hiding the fact that his club is interested in the other big free agent fish. The GM said he has not yet met with Lozano at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas but plans to do so. The Yankees have long been connected to Machado, who could play shortstop for them while Didi Gregorius (elbow) is out before then shifting over to third base. Source: Joel Sherman on TwitterDec 10 - 6:05 PM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- George A. King III reports that Manny Machado will meet with the Yankees in New York on Wednesday. Machado is also slated to meet with the Phillies and White Sox this week and reportedly will visit with at least one other unidentified team, as well. The 26-year-old is set to strike it rich on the free agent market this winter after putting together a 297/.367/.538 batting line with 37 home runs and 107 RBI last season for the Orioles and Dodgers. Source: George A. King III on TwitterDec 16 - 1:06 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manny Machado did in-person visits with the White Sox, Phillies, and Yankees this week, per Fancred's Jon Heyman. Machado flew to each of those cities -- Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York -- to meet with club executives and presumably get a feel for what they can offer to him on the field, off the field, and of course financially. Heyman notes that the Yankees are "in the game" and that a contingent of Yankees people had dinner with Machado and his wife on Wednesday night in Manhattan. There's not really a frontrunner right now, but Heyman does point out that Machado's tour did not include a fourth "mystery" city. It would seem to be a three-team race. 4. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/12/20/18149492/baseball-america-releases-top-10-milwaukee-brewers-prospect-list Interesting top 10 list from Baseball America.
  5. Without Stallone/Rocky, I won't have much interest in other Creed films. To be honest, the actor that plays Creed is pretty blah. I just haven't found myself liking him much. On the flipside, and I felt a little guilty about these thoughts, I found myself more drawn to Drago's son than Creed. Viktor Drago has obviously led a much more interesting and painful life that Adonis Creed. His character drew more emotion out of me than Creed, and I found myself feeling genuinely sorry for him.. That is all I can say without posting spoilers, so I'll let it go at that... Whoa, I thought the first Creed was a little corny and didn't see the new one, but Michael B Jordan is a hell of an actor. He made Black Panther. That may be true, but I didn't find him to be a very good "son of Apollo." Just wasn't very convincing as that character.

  7. The other issue is that kids are too damn lazy to unplug from whatever screen they are attached to, to get out and play anything, not only baseball. That isn't their fault, that is the parent's fault. I can't imagine my childhood without neighborhood pickup games of baseball, basketball, football, and anything else we could think of... From the time school got out in the summer, we had a neighborhood baseball game every single day at 9:00 am. No adults to keep score, pick teams, or provide snacks and drinks. Every single day we played, and I'm talking 10 - 12 of us. If 6 showed up, we found ways to play, ghost runners, or other variations. It was ingrained in us. After our pick-up games, it was on our bikes, home for lunch, then back on the bikes and on the way to the swimming pool until it was time for little league practice or games. Sad to see what has happened to our youth, but as I said, it falls squarely on the parents for a number or reasons...
  8. ...because the rights-holders to Happy Days are not subsidizing a bobble head theme nights? There are a couple Fonzi bobbles out there, not SGA bobbles though. The Stockton Ports did a Fonzi bobble arm years ago for an SGA...
  9. Just how sure of that are you?
  10. I wonder why the Brewers have not capitalized on a Happy Days series of bobbleheads? They do bobbles that have no connection to Milwaukee or Wisconsin, Game of Thrones, Peanuts, Sandlot, Marvel, etc. Why not immortalize Happy Days? I think it would go over bigtime!
  11. related, but not, I wonder why the Brewers have not capitalized on a Happy Days series of bobbleheads? They do bobbles that have no connection to Milwaukee or Wisconsin, Game of Thrones, Peanuts, Sandlot, Marvel, etc. Why not immortalize Happy Days?
  12. It's hard not to like Thames, and at times, he has been a great story in Milwaukee, but we just don't have the roster space for a guy who plays a worse than horrible OF, and no room for at 1B. I wish the guy well, but I really hope we can move him, even if only for salary relief.
  13. Who is this Claudino I keep seeing reference to?
  14. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that last week the Mets discussed the idea of free agent Mike Moustakas to bolster their infield. This was before the Mets signed Wilson Ramos, so it's unclear how things might have changed in regard to budget and roster priority. The club still needs depth for the outfield, but securing some corner-infield insurance makes some sense. Todd Frazier could always slide over to first base if Peter Alonso isn't quite ready or struggles in his first stint in the majors, but there's probably a better fit for Moustakas elsewhere. The 30-year-old batted .251/.315/.459 with 28 home runs and 95 RBI over 152 games last season for the Royals and Brewers. Source: Mike Puma on TwitterDec 18 - 2:40 PM
  15. I read that the A's made an offer to Lucroy - one year and around $5M. He turned it down. Not sure how accurate the info was. If that is true, he made a foolish decision.
  16. No one is responding because there isn't an answer. I'm fine with Pina being our everyday guy, as long as CC doesn't decide to let Kratz become our everyday guy for whatever reason. Pina isn't our biggest offensive liability. If he is average or above, roll with him, and look for that 2B to plug into our lineup until Keston is ready.
  17. You did say 'every' teacher, so I imagine that's why he responded to it. Every teacher I had, not the entire state. Then you should have been more clear, rather than saying EVERY teacher. No way for anyone to know what you meant when you say EVERY... Also, I don't believe that EVERY teacher you had statement either...
  18. While ideally a quality everyday player could be found to play secondbase, i have no problem at all with Perez being in a platoon there if needed. The last three years vs lefty pitchers, Perez numbers. 2016-- .787 OPS 2017-- .805 OPS 2018-- .783 OPS So if Stearns acquired someone who to play second that hits righthanders well, but struggles vs lefties, i'm fine with Perez being in a platoon. Just keep his at bats vs righthanders to a minimum. ..and then, on what should be his off days from his platooning with the other 2B, CC will find a place for him at SS, 3B, or OF positions to give others a day of rest. Meaning, Perez would then be a regular, full time player. I just don't trust CC with guys he loves, that get way too much playing time based on that love (IE Sogard and Perez)
  19. Marlins ask is too high. In the end, they may just have to hang onto him until the trade deadline...
  20. Agreed 100%! Love Stearns, and would want no other GM over him. Another name, Boone Logan...Yuk!
  21. So you want us to stop sharing opinions that differ with yours? If we can no longer react to transactions, game time management decisons, etc., then we may as well shut the forums down.
  22. Signing Machado is not an option for this small market franchise. His salary would cripple our payroll for the length of whatever contract he receives. Plus, he's a douchebag.
  23. Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that the Cubs are one of six teams that have been in contact with free agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. The Cubs plan to send a scout to Tulo's upcoming workout to get a feel for what he has left in the tank. With the Blue Jays on the hook for most of his salary, the 34-year-old could wind up being a nice bargain at the veteran's minimum, provided he's able to stay healthy, which is something he has struggled with throughout his career. The Tulowitzki camp has said that they plan to narrow the field of suitors soon. Related: Cubs Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter Dec 14 - 9:29 PM
