  1. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers are "increasingly likely" to land Manny Machado. Rosenthal notes that several of the other teams tied to Machado also "expect that outcome." There were a number of reports Tuesday suggesting a last-minute play from the Phillies, but the Dodgers apparently have the best offer on the table and it sounds like the medicals and paperwork might already be done. Look for something official by Wednesday afternoon. Major League Baseball frowns on its clubs making big announcements on the day of the All-Star Game. 2. There's this from last night: MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that the Phillies are currently the "most likely destination" for Manny Machado. Morosi says the Phillies are willing to include pitching prospect Adonis Medina -- who is ranked by MLB.com as the No. 2 player in their system -- in a deal for Machado, which looks to have catapulted them into the lead for the infielder's services. Jon Heyman of Fancred, among others, has reported that the Orioles are close to trading their star, although Machado will be representing Baltimore during Tuesday's All-Star Game. The Dodgers and Brewers are looking like the two other clubs most hot on Machado's trail, although it appears they might have some catching up to do. Source: Jon Morosi on Twitter Jul 16 - 11:15 PM Then there is this from this morning: Jon Heyman of FanCred reports that the Dodgers "appear to be the leading contender" in trade talks for Orioles shortstop Manny Machado. This comes hours after Jon Morosi of MLB.com wrote that the Phillies were currently the "most likely destination" for Machado after the club expressed a willingness to include pitching prospect Adonis Medina in a potential deal. With that in mind, Heyman writes that the situation is "fluid" and that the Phillies, Brewers, and Diamondbacks could still have an outside chance. Prospects Dustin May and Gavin Lux are among the names linked in trade talks between the Dodgers and Orioles. If acquired by Los Angeles, Machado would take over at shortstop while Chris Taylor would move back to the outfield. Machado is set to represent the Orioles in Tuesday's All-Star Game, but it sounds like he could be in a different uniform later this week. Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter Jul 17 - 8:49 AM And this, also from this morning: Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Orioles have the structure of a Manny Machado trade in place and are going through the "medicals/paperwork portion of the transaction." Olney adds that the Dodgers "have been very invested" in pursuing Machado, in addition to the Phillies and other teams, but that a deal is not finished yet. Either way, multiple reports indicate that Machado will begin the second half with a new team. It’s very possible that a deal is essentially done and the Orioles would prefer to have him play Tuesday’s All-Star Game representing the team before an official announcement is made. In other words, there should be clarity very soon. Source: Buster Olney on Twitter Jul 17 - 11:04 AM I don't think anyone knows for sure what the hell is going on until it's an actual done deal. I think we are out of it at this point though...
  3. We may have to eat it, and trade him as a "change of scenery" guy. Baseball is a funny game.
  4. Outside of Altuve and maybe Baez, Gennett might be the premier 2B in the game right now. (with a nod to Albies as well)
  5. Well, maybe that's because he's already in the platoon (when not on the DL). Villar has an .892 OPS against lefties this year. He didn't take advantage in some of the 2 week runs where he got consistent time against RHP. Villar has a .760 career OPS vs. LHP. Miller is also a .760 guy against RHP. There have been plenty of times this season, facing a lefty, that Villar has been benched. I just don't believe that CC can be counted on to use a strict platoon when it comes to Villar. Not as long as he has Perez and Sogard types that he MUST play.
  6. Miller/Villar platoon is probably as good as any non-Machado player. You'd have an OPS of ~.800 with that platoon. CC can not function on a strict platoon. Always trying to be cute with something else. Plus, Villar is in the dog house, and can't seem to get any established playing time.
  7. I envision this ending a lot like the Darvish fiasco last off season. Lots of hype, lots of wishful thinking, and in the end, the prize goes to the big market team, and we were only used to drive up the price. This is why it is much more important for us to develop our own guys, so we don't have to enter these losing battles with the free spending, big market clubs. Trading "our own guys" such as Burnes or Peralta just doesn't make any sense. Control these guys for 5 or 6 years, or Manny for 2.5 months? It's a no brainer. I flip flop back and forth on the Machado deal, however, I remain stubborn on one detail. I do not, under any circumstance want to trade Hiura, Burnes, or Peralta for a rental. I'd rather stand pat and try to hit up a lesser acquisition if that is what it takes to get Manny.
  8. huh? This seems like a dangerous statement...
  9. I don't know. A few days ago the Yankees had a done deal. Yesterday the Phillies had a done deal. Now the Dodgers have a done deal. Since we have yet to have a "done deal," I wouldn't be that shocked if we were the ones to land him.
  10. All rentals aren’t equal. Machado is putting up MVP type numbers. If we have to move Ortiz or Woodruff, who I think both end up in the bullpen anyway, I think we should have. Any concern by anyone that a move to the NL might make those MVP type numbers lessen? He probably has a pretty good handle on all the pitching in the AL, but he'll see a lot of unfamiliar arms as a memebr of an NL team. His numbers could easily dip because of this... Just something to throw out there for discussion.
  11. I think it's the mental game for Domingo. Great 2017 season. Trade rumors all off season. Once season starts, no regular playing time. I think the entire process was mentally wearing on the guy, and we mishandled him.

  13. No, absolutely not. yup, ridiculous.
  14. If they want it, they can do both. I also think you really need to get Ramos if you get Machado. He shouldn't be too much, and you might as well fix catcher too. Ramos might be out a LONG time with his injury. I read today possible 4 to 6 weeks. I don't think we want that guy. lol
  15. The guy (Harper's Dad) throwing to Harper was money, absolutely on the money accurate when it counted. Amazing. I'm no Harper fan, but that was a display!
  16. ill try to get some other things off the screenshot and post but im sure the post is still public. i didnt get the link but ill hit him up and try to get it. Im pretty sure, at least the Tribe, thinks we got Machado. Right, the Indians "think" we got him, so they will stop trying to be in contact with the Orioles. oh my.
  17. Yeah, Yelish is great.
  18. As far as I'm concerned, we still have an opening in RF in the future. At some point, we have to realize Braun is a shell of his former self, and should not be guaranteed playing time. We have no idea what we have in Santana. Thames is such a bad fielder defensively. I don't believe that Broxton will ever pan out as a regular starting player in MLB. Hopefully we can entice another team to think he is! Phillips appears to be good trade bait. If one of these younger guys in the minors can separate himself and earn RF, it would be awesome, but looking at all the guys we have in the minors that could one day take that spot, it seems we have a surplus. That is where we need to trade from, our surplus.
  19. It was presented as fact, that is where the problem lies: "brewers just secured Machado. Details to follow. Announcement after the ASG." That is not a "I heard from a source" information, that sounds factual.
  20. I have never been a WAR guy, too many holes in that stat for my liking. Have you ever been a WAR guy? nope
  21. If this isn't true, and you think you are being funny, I won't mind if you get banned. geez.
  22. Dumb rule. As you mentioned above, why get punished for hitting monstrously high bombs? Bah humbug.
  23. 100% agree. Who cares how long it took, liked that system so much better.
  24. Hoskins # 17 was pitched after the clock hit zero... They counted it? LAME!
  25. LOL Or, you can be all offended, threaten to leave, then leave, but continue to monitor responses to your lies, then, when something happens that you got lucky on and guessed correctly, come back to gloat, then get pissed and leave again, come back, only to get banned by mods. What a soap opera that was.
