  1. http://noisetosignal.org/files/imagepicker/s/Seb%20Patrick/zurenarrhpart1-blam.png So, I don't have a whole lot more to add to this. I find Wolf to be an entertaining guy off the mound, and I think that's why he's avoided me raging about him thus far in his contract. He seems just a little bit off and it makes for some entertaining quotes. But, I suspect that brazen honesty he shows probably causes him to be a little bit too hard on a young catcher.
  2. Racquetball league schedules. I'm only able to play at 2 levels at my club, and they put all 4 of those leagues on the same nights that I play softball instead of spreading them out over the course of the week. So, I have to either play way below my level, or not play. Very frustrating.
  3. "There are 5 others who have as many or more appearances." All of those guys have been performing much better than Kameron, and have had significantly less stressful innings. Either way, simply because a guy like Nolan Ryan could throw 300 innings a year doesn't mean everyone can and should do it. If you're seriously trying to argue that he hasn't been overworked when he's tied for 3rd in appearances, then I don't know what to say.
  4. "Kotteras was passed up by Nieves and now Rivera." Rivera was brought up as a righty bench bat. If they were looking for a lefty, I'm sure GK would have been the guy.
  5. "Cincinnati 2 Atlanta 3 Houston 1 KC 1 San Diego 4 Florida 2 Washington 2 Arizona 1 Boston 1 Colorado 1 New York Yankees 2 New york Mets 2 Pittsburgh 2 LA Dodgers 1 La angels 1 Minnesota 1 Oakland 1 Tampa Bay 1 St Louis 1" In response to this, all I can say is that the number of innings is not the issue. It's the number of appearances. Most of those guys who have pitched more innings have been pitching in long relief. Pitching 4 innings and getting 3 days rest afterwards is way less stressful than pitching 1 inning in 4 straight games, and I have to believe you realize that. Even with his recent days off, Loe is still tied for 3rd in the MLB with 23 appearances. Only Venters and O'Flaherty have appeared more often. That's the problem.
  6. MSSE + MBAM and SuperAntispyware. That's what I recommend for pretty much anyone and everyone who asks me.
  7. Still in the same boat I was before. I can't stand the Cardinals, and that will be the case as long as TLR and Pujols are there. They have overtaken the Cubs as my least favorite team in all of sports. I was rooting for the Reds last year. I still prefer them to win over the Cardinals, but the necessity of them losing this year and the fact that the Brewers just can't seem to beat them has made me not like them as much. They're still light years away from being hated like I hate the Cards and Cubs, though.
  8. Gomez should be our CF in 2012. Him or a platoon between him and Morgan. Anything else just doesn't make sense. Gomez is such BEAST in the field. Every time I watch him play, all I can think about is "Man, if he could only post a .350 OBP." He'd be so valuable. Really, though, he actually does have value, terrible OBP or not. His ++range is magnified in value with Braun and Hart in the OF.
  9. Marcum has bad mechanics, Greinke does not. Greinke is also younger. This is a no-brainer for me.
  10. "ESPN recently" ESPN is not a source I particularly care about.
  11. "worst mlb player comment" They don't mean worst player, they just mean worst 130+ game starter.
  12. I love that I can basically tell all my casual fan friends "I told you so." I know, it's immature, but I've been defending the guy against detractors for 5 years now, and it's finally happening. He's now the perrenial 5+ WAR capable player I knew he would be. Obviously, that's a bit premature since he only has one big season and a good start to a 2nd, but darn it, I'm going to say it.
  13. "cotton candy vendors" If Prince is playing first, the location of these guys would be pretty important.
  14. It was awful fundamentals on the bad hop play. I'd be okay if he doesn't field it cleanly if he was actually in position. Bad hops happen and I can't fault someone for not having perfect reaction abilities. I can, however, fault a player for not putting himself in the proper position out of laziness. I think that's what people are referring to when talking about that being one of the worst plays they've ever seen. I bet a pretty darn good number of shortstops still make that play even with the bad hop.
  15. "So far, I'd give him a C- on defense. " I'm assuming that the C- is relative to what he was expected to be, because C- would imply something around average.
  16. From everything I've seen, he looks pretty darn lazy when trying to range in either direction. Decent arm, pretty good at turning 2. I have not been pleasantly surprised with his range in the least. He looks every bit the same statuesque player he has been his whole career, but that's my perception.
  17. For the first 11 games of the season, Albert Pujols, his holiness, is putting up a .609 OPS.
  18. I don't like having pointing this out, but it's Nyjer Morgan with a 'j.' Please get it right. Secondly, as said by multiple people, small sample size is killing your argument here. If Casey continues at this rate for 2 months, then we may have something to go on, but we're sitting with a guy who has OPS'd over .800 for 2 seasons now. The guy is not a bad hitter, and judging him based on 41 PA as a terrible hitter is incredibly hasty. Gomez is not a 2 hitter, he's a 9 hitter who plays great D in a premium position. Your beef is with RR in this situation. Morgan is a .350 OBP hitter against RHP and is absolutely raking right now. We've got our best 3 hitters hitting well and a couple other guys on the DL who hit better than their alternatives. This team is A-OK with offense. Have a couple Miller Lites and relax, Brian.
  19. "Wow. Inappropriate, unfounded and off-topic. I'll just get in before the lock." I'm certain it was meant to be in blue.
  20. "It didn't take a large sample size for me to lose confidence in Escobar either" Did you expect Escobar's bat to be good? You judge these things far too quickly if you completely lost confidence in Escobar after one season. "I don't think there is an upside to it, though." There are absolutely scenarios where we take 15 mil - raises and upgrade our weakest position (SS) by more than the dropoff from Fielder to Gamel. Gamel could easily post a 3-4 WAR season as a 1B. I'm not counting on it, but it could happen. Fielder certainly has more upside as a hitter, but Gamel *will* be a better defender. I'm guessing that he will be among the top 10 1B for UZR his rookie season because all of his strengths as a 3B apply to 1B, and his biggest weakness does not. It's not like Fielder has been putting up 8 WAR a season. In the last 4 seasons he's posted a total of 19 WAR. That's very good, but by no means irreplaceable. Regardless of the last paragraph, you've now decided that after 167 total plate appearances in the majors and a .750 OPS by Gamel, that he is a lost cause. That is the biggest snap judgment I've ever seen considering a .750 OPS by no means bad for a rookie. Want to take a guess at what Fielder's OPS for his first 170 PAs was? Approximately .800. Was he a lost cause as well?
  21. WTP, you need to factor in raises for Braun/Weeks/Gallardo/McGehee and any other number of things. You can't just repurpose the entire amount in long term contracts. If we followed your plan, we'd have to pretty much cut down to league minimum for most positions.
  22. Didn't they soak Hart in beer while he was holding his kid at a press conference after he made the allstar game in 2008? EDIT: Specified the year.
  23. "Jack Z takes another strike to his inability to draft good starting pitching." That about sums it up. I thought Frederickson, when he was drafted, was an absolutely awful pick. A college pitcher averaging a walk an inning in college? Not a chance he becomes anything but a volatile reliever at absolute best. Waste of a pick and waste of money. I will be the first to say that I didn't think Arnett would bust. I had some misgivings, but I definitely didn't think he was this bad.
  24. With Yun-E6/Counsell, you have to worry about Counsell being able to hold up for 70% of the starts. That's the only reason I can see why you wouldn't do the latter. There's no reason I can see not to do the former except this ridiculous notion that Gomez will somehow improve and figure out how to hit.
  25. "McLouth replaces Gomez in CF" This makes me shudder. Can you imagine how bad that OF defense would be with Braun, Hart, and McLouth? Yuck. Either way, Freeman is worth more than Prince right now. I doubt any of those trade scenarios happen. #1) Freeman was 20 years old and put up nearly a .900 OPS last year in AAA. He's a huge prospect and is under control for 6 years. No way we get him for Prince. #2) Slightly more likely. Adam Jones is a pretty darn good, young player on a team that is still a year or two from being good enough to hang in the AL East. They also already have Derrek Lee and Vlad Guerrero. They don't need Prince right now unless they can resign him. #3) Once again, awful awful defense in the OF if this happens. Secondly, I'd rather just give the job to Gamel straightaway than take Loney. Loney is not very good. I think this is the only of the 3 scenarios where the Brewers lose on the deal, and it doesn't help the team much at all. Remember, we still have Nyjer Morgan available as a CF. It's WAY more important to fill the SS spot than CF, since we actually have a backup plan for when Gomez finally gets yanked.
