  1. Look, Kaplar defense isn't appreciably better than Gwynn's. Dillon's bat is better than both combined. They need to showcase Gwynn and hope he gets hot, hot, hot. Cut Kaplar please. With the pitching and defense being below par for a playoff team they need all the hitters they can get--keep Crazy Joe. Nunez? I can't even believe he's thinking that way. Sometimes Melvin's public logic is so...well...illogical. I mean, I love the guy, but if Nunez makes the team that's an awfully big error for a smart guy to make. I like the idea that there's a fundamental disconnect between Melvin and Yost though because we all know whose gonna win that battle. And what if Weeks is hurt worse than they suspect. You'd rather have Nunez or Counsell than Dillon subbing? Really? Cthat just borders on insanity in my book.
  2. He looks to be a good guy for AAA. An emergency starter down their is always a plus.
  3. It's too bad Cappy is hurt, but I must agree I think it makes the Crew better, and might settle the matter once and for all. Now, lets do this thing right. Get Cappy the medical help he needs. Fix what ever problem there is to fix, and get him back to where he was. If it takes a year so be it. I think Villy has to go into the rotation. I believe that he could go 200 innings, but just 200 innings. Besides, starter's innings are more predictable, more of a rhythm and probably easier on the arm once it's strecthed out than reliever innings as they can be in a constant state of warm up. And I agree if Parra is the fifth starter it will be easy to control his innings. If we really want to be protective we could still make him the sixth starter. About Vargas: sure he's probably the same old guy, and we can't expect much, but if he has added his change-up in a significant way, and if not pitching winter has made him better like Powell suggests, then I think he deserves a couple of turns to prove himself.
  4. The thing is, I'd take Rickie's line last year every year. But I really do believe he's going to get better. I listened to the Dennis Krause interview the other day, and I really like his thoughtful, methodical approach to improving and knowing his limitations. I think he'll add a little bit onto his BA, nothing great. I think he'll be right around the same OBP, but I think we could see a more significant improvement in SLG. It seems to me that Rickie always gets one really good hack in there. If he can increase that to two really good hacks and it doesn't affect his OBP he could post some dazzling numbers for a 2nd baseman--a kind of Chase Utley Junior. I can also buy that he doesn't improve all that much. Fine with me. I would hope that the defense comes around. He really is very much below average, and has to try a every possible approach to improve.
  5. Yeah, if Gagne flames out I think Torres will get the first call. He's done it before (maybe Riske has too, I'm unaware on this point) but he seems to have a more classic closer's make up. I also suspect that Riske will be doing a great job in the 7th or 8th inning and Yost won't want to move him. I was listening to Dibble along with Kevin Kennedy last night on XM and both said that team routinely hide pitchers who are hurt or struggling in ST. Why? Don't know I fell alseep, dang!
  6. What scares me is that they'll keep Kapler.
  7. I'm pretty sure both of those guys are better than Estrada.
  8. I feel so...ah...informed, and a bit squeamish. I think I'll wince every time I see either of these guys slide.
  9. In order of quality Starters: Yo, Parra, Sheets, Villanueva, Suppan Relief: Turnbow, Torres, Riske, Bush, Gagne, Vargas, Shouse, Capuano, Cut: Mota, McClung Minors: Stetter Wouldn't mind seeing Cappy go away by any means possible
  10. Every team neeeds a guy like Soup. He takes the ball every fifth day and gives the rotation innings stability. Every once in awhile he pitches a gem, and he's uncannily good in the "big" game. The contract is big but it's obviously market value right now.
  11. Seriously, if this guy doesn't make the team sumthen is way wrong. He's joe Dillon; he's CRAZY Joe Dillon because he hits like crazeeeeee! Every team needs that kind of bat on the bench.
  12. Lets not forget our Negro League team the Milwaukee Bears.
  13. Win or lose--you da man! I'd like to put my hat in the ring for the Roberts ball. Thanks a ton either way.
  14. This is a serious question, no kidding. Who is Jessica Simpson?
  15. I don't like the signing one bit. If they can turn Wainwright around they can turn this guy around. He's got very good stuff. Duncan scares the bajeebers outta me.
  16. Did you really see that at bat? I thought it looked suspiciously like Ben Sheets. I smell a trade in the works.
  17. Chicago 2-3 New York 2-1 St. Louis 2-1 Cincy 0-3 San Fran 3-0 Cincy 1-2 St. Louis 1-1 Philly 1-1 Florida 2-1 14-13 A pretty good start I'd say, except the thorn in our side that will be the Reds
  18. To say that groups of individuals do not at times resemble or emulate individuals themselves borders on something, something. While not true every time, the correlation simply can't be dismissed, especially when dealing in an area as broad and complex as pyschology.
  19. This is the reasons I think rosters should be expanded by one player, a pitcher, who can only be brought in if the lead is more than 7 runs. This would give a job to Elmer Dessens and so it's justified.
  20. Interesting indeed since there is absolutely no correlation between what individuals do and what groups of individuals do.
  21. Agreed, but as soon as you send one of these guys down, or cast them into the bullpen, then you devalue them and can expect even less in return. As a general manager I don't want a team that 's barely over .500's excess pitching. It can't be that good.
  22. I don't know guys. If I say to myself, "you're a general manager. Do you want either of these two guys on your team?" I gotta answer, "yes." But I'd also add, "but it's gotta be cheap, cheap, cheap." I really can't see the Brewers getting much for either of these two guys. They're just not very good. I'd keep 'em both and hope I catch some lightning in a bottle and then ship 'em out fast, fast, fast.
  23. I saw the biscuit logo two days ago and I've finally stopped laughing. That that thing didn't win is proof positive that humans are evil by nature. What are we thinking?
  24. Awesome article. Cameron just seems like the man. I love it when older players take the time to help out the Tikes. Geez, it does seem like if you get drafted by the Brewers a position change is in the offing.
  25. I just really believe he should be in the bullpen and maybe by the grace of god he works out his problems. I hope so because when he's on he kills the Cubs.
