  1. That is the problem. Throwing away so many big leads. I gotta believe that means that an astute manager could've provided the correct intervention. Losing a one run lead can happen awfully quick, but losing leads greater than 3 suggests that a manager probably stayed too long with said pitcher and may not have had an alternative ready.
  2. I'm totally against signing Jones. Some players fade faster than others, and while 31 isn't insanely old, it does tend to be a one way rollercoaster. Now if they just legalized steroids, then I'd sign him. 50 HRs a year would look pretty good in the 5 hole.
  3. I'm not adding anything new here, but he's the one verifiable innings eater on the Brew Crew. I think it's incumbent on management to find another of these guys for next year. Bush could fill that role if he was ever consistent enough.
  4. Geez, I don't know. But man oh man, these are absolutely esential questions. The level of intelligence around here is just refreshing. I guess the biggest question here is how much is Yost responsible for the mid to late season bullpen collapse that cost us the division. If it's mostly on the players you gotta keep Yost. If it's an inability to make the correct moves you gotta dump Yost.
  5. I think the Cubbies will win 86 or 87, which essentianlly leaves the Brewers outta the equation. I think the Brewers best chance is if the Braves dump their series against the Crew and the Pads are outta it. Then maybe.
  6. I like Rock when he's critical of players or the team in general. Anderson just puts me to sleep; the guy is the definition of boring. And his adages ring like well perfected cliches. For the first time ever I turn off the sound and listen to music while watching. I also think that he doesn't really like the Brewers, which is his perogative, but seems strange since he works for them. He delights in the opposition when they do well--it's strange. Now it's subtle because he's such a low key guy, but it's there. I wish they put Powell on when he's not doing the radio innings.
  7. If they've gone 7-3 since posting the statistical possiblities, then Russ needs to do more analysis consistently thru the season.
  8. The real bottom line in all this is that the Crew need Rickie badly if they somehow eeek into the playoffs. He's the only guy, with the only skill set on the team to generate a run small ball style. Somewhere down the line it's gonna be mega-important, so he really needs to be hitting his stride in a difficult season right now. Good luck RW!
  9. I think the worst team to face would be the Padres. Huge stadium that negates our power and forces into small ball, and there's no way the Crew can score against Peaves or Young. Mets would be second worst team to face--just too much offense for our pitching staff. I'd like to face Dodgers or D-backs.
  10. Calling the Brewers dead is brilliant! Put in on the locker room wall, enlarged!
  11. It honestly does my heart good when stories like this appear. I love it when our "feel good" stories crumble. I swear, the amount of mythologies that sports fans create is devastatingly ridiculous. And I also like simple answers to complex questions. And I love all the talk about how we should act instead of how we do act. Him good. Him bad. Kill the bad man! (metaphorically of course). When the rewards and desire are great enough humans will do what they can to reach their hopes and dreams. I'd rather not lose this compunction even though it may lead us astray at times. Moral this or moral that, technically, this or technically that. Neither of these points of view accurately describes humans beings. And punishment doesn't work either. Check out our empty jails. Banning or suspending players will never work either, when has it ever. It means too much to people. And if it means cheating, cheating that may end your life early, or ruin your reputation or standing with strangers, well, then it must be really important and meaningful. Try and explain that to someone. Don't act on what is meaningful to you. Just accept that you'll never achieve your dreams because your body isn't up to the task. Hey if you can't be a baseball player you can be chimney sweep or a chemical engineer. And if being an engineer or a chimney sweep is your version of "living the dream" then I'm not gonna deny you your chance.
  12. I think it's great when we can lose a guy like this. Think about how far our farm system has come that we can let a really good arm go and feel pretty good, or at least not worried, about losing a player. Melvin will trade him for something almost as good or maybe even better. I'd like to see a A+ level catcher or ss.
  13. I'd go with Braun as well. To me, Fielder looks like Mo Vaughn waiting to happen.
  14. None will stay in Milwaukee. The bettter they are the sooner they will leave. If Braun puts up anything close to similar numbers he'll be gone as soon as Fielder, that is, as soon as possible. I would imagine if both stay consistent can anyone here imagine we keep even one ballplayer who will bring down 125 to 150 million?
  15. I think you should showboat all you want. It's a free country. I also think the pitcher should then go after Fielder's head. Hey, it's a free country, and god knows Braun doesn't need the Prince behind him because he's the greatest! (This is a non-blue comment)
  16. If we can't pay a defensive stiff 100 million, how are we gonna sign an even worse fielder for 150 million?
  17. If we can't pay a defensive stiff 100 million, how are we gonna sign an even worse fielder for 150 million?
  18. I think for the first time in my life I just can't even phantom a prediction. None of these teams deserve a playoff spot. I guess the Crew might do something, don't the Cubs and Cards have to play each other something like seven/ eight more times? If we do fall out I agree it could be early. Cincy at this point is clearly a better team, playing at their place could be our Waterloo. On the other hand if they decide not to play like the Brewers on the road, it could set up the rest of the month I guess.
  19. Great idea mothership--I'd line up all the AL pitchers, you know, the wusses that don't bat because they're a bunch of pu... Well, I'd set the pitching machine for, say 115 mph, and let it rip. It could be in between innings, like the sausage race, only way better. Bring back a little of the Roman Circus I say. At least the game would count for something real. And I'd start with a guy like Clemens who thinks he's tough and hides behind his teammates.
  20. Okay, thanks guys. My bad. for some reason I thought he was 23 already. And it's true I might have been totally unfair about his defense. I'm only going on what I heard/read when he was first drafted.
  21. Help me out here (and I'm being genuine): I just can't see LaPorta as a true prospect. He's so damn old. Unless he skyrockets thru the system, he'll be 25 or 26 when he arrives. He'll only have a year or two at peak age, and if he struggles at all at the major league level, he'll potentially lose one of those years. The guy is nearly always hurt and he can't play defense a lick (which is a major problem in the Brewer organization, and something that is truly holding them back). Why is he such a hot prospect? And again, please don't get me wrong. I really hope he is the next Carlos Lee, but I just don't see it. What am I missing. signed A non-expert
  22. Which is great, and hopeful, and I'm really glad.
  23. Oh yeah, sorry for back to back responses. As to Wise. I like him, but believe he's a reclamation (sic) project at this time. I don't want to give up on him.
  24. I think I heard somewhere that his previous team messed with his mechanics and his walk ration went beserk. The implication was, that the Crew will let him go back to his natural tendencies, and let the chips fall where they may. I think it was Powell who said it? In any case, a guy who can throw 95-100 needs a creditble shot.
  25. I like all the Brewers. I like every Brewers that was, except Charlie Moore. I'm a Brewer fan. But liking and being good have no relationship at all. And anyone who is good nowadays, will be a Brewer only temporarily. Fielder appears to be good, even outstanding, therefore his days as a Brewer are numbered. The exception, as I see it, and I could be wrong, is that the Brewers can really only afford one large contract a year, maybe 2 at most. If we sign Sheets to a big contract that pretty much means the minors will have to keep cranking out cheap replacements, and we'll lose some if not all of the young guys who have talent. I just can't remember a Brewer team that had a large payroll compared to the rest of the league (although I'm sure I'm probably wrong about that too).
