  2. I just think that noncompetetive teams need to give multiple-tool players the longest rope they can afford. Play Broxton.
  3. All I'm saying is that Broxtn's best comparable in our system is Brinson, a low rent Brinson maybe, but one that needs support and time. I dont want to give up on his athleticism.
  4. See like age pick up. Going to AAA. Ground ball, submarine pitcher. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/ben-rowen-claimed-waivers-brewers-jays.html
  5. Villar is under team control through 2020. I'm not sure I see them trading him in the off season. This does bring up a good question: how do the Brewers view Villar long term. I get the feeling, though I have no evidence, that they are a little frustrated with Jonathan, and don't really see him as a player of the future. I think they hope he develops and then flip him. With Arcia the "future" at ss, and ss being the more valuable position, wouldn't keeping Villar there make some sense especially if he keeps producing? Is a starting ML ss more valuable than a three position (ss,2b,3b) mostly starter/supersub?
  6. When I was a kid the Cardinals were so likable (1960s). I think they were in the top five. The Yankees would have been dead last. To supplant the Yankees that's really an accomplishment. My sports nightmare would be to die, go to hell, and be forced to watch endless Yankees/Cardinals World Series match ups.
  7. These early lists really do point out how tough it is to build a rotation--possibilities galore in the infield/outfield, but that rotation is so far behind in terms of depth. I expect Guerra to be moved, possibly Nelson as well. I have no faith in a Peralta/Jungmann turn around. Nothing really has changed in a way for the Crew--they're still paddling upstream when it comes to developing starting pitchers. Maybe Stearns greatest achievement will be changing our sad long term culture concerning this issue.
  8. I was against the call up because of the possible effect on Villar's value in hopes of possibly moving him along in the off season. There's also the domino effect concerning Perez in RF. I do take the point about Colorado Sprngs though mentioned earlier.
  9. Hart Morgan Weeks Braun Ramirez Lucroy Gamel Gonzalez I'm assuming Weeks will still be the better base runner than Braun. Although given the nature of Weeks' injury last year that might not be true. If so, switch Braun and Weeks then.
  10. Player of the Year: Greinke Pitcher of the Year: Greinke Monster year, finishes 2nd in the Cy Young, 19 wins Rookie of the Year: Peralta With Braun back Aoki is strictly a 4 or 5 outfielder and Roenicke just won't give Gamel a chance. Green will probably have the most at bats given Weeks injuries, Gamel's failure, and as others have predicted Aramis moving to first possibly, but Green's limitations won't make up for Peralta's step forward and sheer potential First contract extension: Axford First player moved: K-Rod Place in the Central: 3rd, exciting summer as St. Louis and Milwaukee jockey all season long for Wild Card, Reds should run away with the division Record: 84-78
  11. I basically agree with the arguments presented here. But if a deal came our way for youth that was significant--especially starting pitching I'd listen.
  12. Good and cheap which is the key. I see nothing wrong with sitting Aramis or Rickie late (with a lead of course). Beat me to it MVP2110. I guess it would go Izturis as a late inning replacement at 2B or SS, and Green at 3B or 1st.
  13. Small market teams have to take continual small risks like this one. I like the chances, but it is true we don't truly know how he'll translate to the MLB. What I do like is a late inning defensive in the outfield of Aoki in LF, Morgan inCF and Gomez in RF. Three centerfielders, no ball will dare to try and reach the wall.
  14. Not that it would matter, but I would end my 50 year love affair with baseball if the NL adopted the DH. The DH is simply another way to keep big market clubs ahead of their small fry brethren, as if the economical advantages weren't enough. The DH forces the cost of players up, and lets one-dimensional players hang on. In addition it panders to the lowest common denominator--runs, power, ESPN/media baseball. Baseball, which has already lost most of its balance, you'll never see another 82' Cardinals again...is slowly becoming, well, softball--all hail the 10-8 game! Yes I believe the DH is coming as well. It's coming because I can hear the faint strain of the Jaws soundtrack in the background. Oh well, ever forward into the bigger and better.
  15. The Phillies are the best. Why shouldn't they take 3 outta 4 or sweep the Brewers? The Crew has the division wrapped up I think. I have absolutely no worries or concerns. They're weaknesses are well documented and they're not going to change, so I thinks it's our expectations (as fans) that has changed--not the Brewer chances. The long awesome ride the Brewers took in building a 101/2 game lead made us fall into a false sense--that we'd be able to compete effectively in the playoffs. At the beginning of the year I think most people here thought the Crew were a playoff team, but any chance for a pennant would be based on getting hot at the right time or luck, because realistically we aren't as good as Atlanta (when healthy) or the Phillies. We're probably better than Arizona, but they're riding their wave now--they'll cool down soon enough. Lets just enjoy the division championship, and maybe we can sneak past Atlanta, but that's as far as it will go. Pretty good I'd say. I'll take it happily and enjoy the memories. P.S. This isn't my first post. I've been here for years under a different name--no need for the typical classy/friendly welcome that you give people when first arriving here.
  16. I actually think that Casey will continue to come around into September; I however, do not know if that justified the Brewers unlimited leash with Casey, but it is what it is. I think what will be interesting now is if the Brewers call up Taylor Green a few days before Sept. 1. And even more importantly, I hope the Brewers do give Green an honest chance to beat out Casey in Spring Training next year.
  17. Let me preference this--I know next to nothing compared to the guys who specialize in this section of the site, and worse still I've only seen Jungmann pitch in the CWS, so given that I'm coming from a dubious place, so let me say this...man oh man is that guy stiff. His mechanics to me seem like he thinking through every pitch...come to set, raise arm at 11 0'clock and step forward, hit release point and follow through...etc. I didn't see anything natural to his whole approach. In addition his fastball looked awfully straight and quite frankly hittable. After the Arnett fiasco I'm just crossing my fingers that this guy can become a usable 4/5 starter. Unlike Arnett, I think Taylor's delivery is repeatable, so he's bound to be better, but I can't lie,I was kinda hoping, quietly mind you, that he wouldn't sign.

  19. One of the Classiest Friendliest guys imaginable. Hurray!!!!!
  20. Based on defense, headiness, hustle and concentration I'd say that Felipe Lopez needs to go to the end of the bench with Craig and basically not see the light of day. The Dodgers' game (8/15) really clinches it even though he wasn't playing 2B. Coupled with Felipe not running out grounders, isn't this the obvious choice?
  21. This is one of those trades where we love it for two years and feel queasy with a bunch of "what ifs" rolling around in our stomachs for 4/5 years. It's the nature of the trade-beast. Pain-less? Impossible, but that's okay.
  22. First let me say that I hate Tony LaRussa more than anyone who has ever put on a uniform. Only Boras and the DH are worse in terms of cosmic forces. Having said that. I think that Tony may be playing this shrewdly. I think he's trying to bait the Brewers who he knows is going to be his competition down the stretch. He wants them to get emotional and distracted. He wants to start something so there's retaliation and animosity, feeling that his veterans can handle it better than the younger Brewers. This kind of thing happens in the NHL all the time, NBA too. Not a bad idea to give it a whirl. That said, I was glad to hear Casey talk about how important it is to remain on an even keel, not get too emotional, and be professional in your approach. Did I ever say how much I hate LaRussa...
  23. I just don't see any playing time for Green given the new acquisitions. Gamel you can give some pinch hitting duty, but Taylor will ride the bench even though I concede that he deserves pinch hits as well. I think Taylor should continue to rake at AAA and be given a true shot next year in camp to back up at 2nd and 3rd w/ Hairston manning the back up ss role . But if Casey is named the Brewers offensive player of the month ala Betancourt then forget about Green this year.
  24. I think Wade's plan is to make the Astros so bad that there's no way MLB can put them in the American League. Can you imagine? They'd lose like 150 games.
  25. Gamel, Maldonado, DeFelice, Weeks and Kintzler. I just can't believe Green is a part of the organization's plan. If he is still with us it will be a super-bonus.
