  1. I've been wondering, and probably inaccurately, how much of this is him being jealous of Herro and how Herro is making millions and living in Miami and because King was a hyped-up Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin that he is as good as Herro and should be where Herro is as well. That being said, I understand where King is coming from, because I'm in a situation right now where I have had several concerns with how my immediate manager has been managing me. I have had several conversations with that person and that person's boss that I feel have gone nowhere, that they weren't listening, and now I am actively job searching, even though I really enjoy the team that I work with. It's one thing to be overly sensitive (maybe that's the case, maybe it isn't). But it's another when you feel like you aren't being listened to. When you have 1:1 meetings with your boss and your boss, for example, is multi-tasking and reading emails during your meeting, I think you have a legitimate complaint.
  2. One of them won 2/3rds of their games last year and made their sports' post season tournament, one of them didn't, so I know who my money is on.
  3. Because of the recent rules change (can't remember if it was this year or last year), by rule it has to be a flagrant foul because he was called for hooking. Hooking is an automatic flagrant foul now.
  4. I do not understand why people are still interested in Tiger Woods after everything he did to his wife, put his family through, and his connections to PEDs. Maybe it's because I've heard a little more about him than most people have, through some very reliable sources - that he spent $250,000 a weekend flying hookers to his tournaments (I guess at $1000/hour, it adds up quickly), and that the name "Elin" is in Biogenesis' books and that, as a part of their divorce settlement, Elin is prohibited from discussing the "errands" that she ran for Tiger. Tiger has (had?) a home on the ultra exclusive Jupiter Island, not too far north of Miami. FWIW, I have much more of an issue with the first one than the second one.
  5. Wow. The day after LeBron passed him on the all-time scoring list.
  6. While Barber was a good pass catcher, he wasn't on either of the Super Bowl teams. He only overlapped with Manning for three seasons. The second Super Bowl season, Jacobs only had 571 rushing yards in 14 games. Jacobs only had two 1000 yard seasons in his career, and both were barely over 1000 yards; he also only had ~700 receiving yards total in his career. Shockey was only on the first Super Bowl team, and wasn't a Pro Bowler that year. Speaking of the Super Bowl teams, the first one only had one Pro Bowler on it, and he was on defense (Umenyiora). The second Super Bowl team only had two Pro Bowlers - Pierre-Paul, and Manning. Those weren't talent-laded juggernauts that Manning was along for the ride like Trent Dilfer; to lead those two teams to the Super Bowl I think makes his case. No Pro Bowl offensive linemen on either team. The second Super Bowl team ranked 9th in points scored but 25th in points against, with no running back rushing for more than 700 yards. Also, speaking of the Super Bowl teams, in those two post-seasons combined Manning threw 15 TDs to 2 INTs with QB ratings of 95.7 and 103.1. They won those Super Bowl because of him. And he still had to play within Coughlin's system.
  7. I assume you have seen "Hamburger: The Motion Picture"...
  8. I don't know how he could have been a top-5 QB considering the offenses he played in. Tom Coughlin wasn't exactly known as an innovator on offense, and recently he played on some bad teams (only one winning season the last seven years). What if Manning had been traded to the Saints and Brees traded to the Giants? Or, what if Payton had been hired by the Giants and Coughlin by the Saints? How would that have affected their respective career arcs? Manning retired ranked 7th all-time in passes completed, yards, and TDs. Maybe those are archaic stats now, but that's the job of the QB - complete passes, move the ball, score TDs. Lots of other stats are dependent on the offensive scheme - and surrounding talent. Using Pro Football Reference's Career AV as a proxy for value, he finished 30th all time in Career AV and 41st all time in weighted CAV. If nothing else, he was durable - he started something like 210 consecutive games which also ranks top-5 all time. Yes, his career passer rating isn't spectacular, but it's ahead of a lot of hall of famers including Aikman, Moon, Fouts, and Elway. Yes, he had a lot of interceptions, but Marino, Unitas, Tarkenton, Blanda and Farve had more. Those guys aren't getting kicked out of the hall. One last point - other than OB-J, who played with Manning for four seasons (missed almost all of 2017, and complained his way out in 2018), who was the next best wide receiver to play with Manning? Who were his left tackles? Exactly.
  9. I haven't seen a whole lot of fasting success stories. There isn't much in the way of clinical research to support it or that it is good for you. Generally speaking, a person can only cut more than 400 calories out of their diet for no more than four days in a row before you just lose it and can't stop eating because you are hungry all of the time. In general, the best way to diet is some combination of: 1) Cut as much refined sugar and simple carbohydrates out of your diet as possible. You'd be surprised how much stuff has sugar (things like milk, some types of peanut butter, loads in even "healthy" breakfast cereal, creamer or honey you put in coffee, many salad dressings, etc.). Aim to cut 50% of your sugar intake immediately, then 1-2 months later cut it in half again. Flavor with spices or lime juice, which has no sugar. B) Replace calorie-dense foods with less calorie dense foods so that your stomach is full on fewer calories; generally, this coincides with #1 above. 3) Eat small meals five times a day instead of three larger ones; eventually your stomach will shrink and you will feel full with less food in you. Snack in the middle of the morning/afternoon with nuts/seeds, apples, carrots, celery, low sugar chunky peanut butter, low sugar protein bars. 4) Salads (that most people eat) don't help. Besides the calories/sugar in salad dressing, leaf vegetables digest very quickly and you'll be hungry 2-3 hour later. Make sure salads have lean protein and/or root vegetables, which take much longer to digest, leaving you feel full longer. Thin crust pizza - with the right toppings and sauce, consumed in moderation - is not bad for you. There was a study done with obese children where they replaced all of the sugar in their diet with pizza. Within two weeks they started seeing significant improvement in biomarkers.
  10. Free agents: Allison, Bulaga, Campbell, Crosby, Ervin, Fackrell, Goodson, Grant, Lewis, Martinez, Redmond, Spriggs, Veldheer, Vitale, T. Williams Exclusive rights FA's: Kumerow, Lancaster, Lazard, Sullivan, Tonyan The funny thing is, most of the exclusive rights FA's are probably a higher priority than the FA's (except for Kumerow, Crosby, and one of Bulaga/Veldheer). Lewis said he wants to play one more year and wants to play for Green Bay, so he should be back and reasonable. Crosby is a priority. Not sure about Bulaga - want him back but not on a multi-year deal; he's had to leave too many games to give a lot of money to. The Packers have shown to move on from aging OL maybe a year too early, but not more than that. If Veldheer wants to play another year I'd be open to it. Ervin should be a priority - they've found a role in the offense for him. The return game was a disaster until he showed up. Fackrell is a very good backup, but may get starter's money elsewhere. Martinez isn't someone to give a lot of money to, but if he's gone then what?
  11. It's not just temperature, it's also wind and rain. I don't know about Green Bay, but in Chicago it was cold and/or rainy pretty much all of late October and November. It was a wet fall here, and temperatures dropped to highs around 40 in late October and rarely got above 50 after that. I would assume colder in Green Bay. If it's windy enough, it can alter the ball slightly when dropping it to not get square on contact.
  12. Those are no longer relevant stats for a punter because it depends so much on where you are punting from. The Packers punt so much from midfield that it's about % inside the 20, hang time, and % returned. I don't know about this past season, but as a rookie Scott either led the league or was 2nd in the league in hang time and I believe he led the league in lowest % returned. In practice he regularly bounces them off of the Hutson Center roof. There is also weather. The difference between Scott and 14th in the league is two yards per punt, so it's not really a big difference and could be explained by how often they are punting from midfield versus other teams. You don't need to look any further than the Seattle game from last year to see what he can do. They were pinned deep in their territory, and Scott flipped the field with a 65-yard punt - mostly in the air, not a 45 yard punt that rolled for another 20 yards. Denver waived Brett Kern halfway through his second year. It wasn't until his 5th year that he really figured it out, and has been perhaps the best punter in the league the last three years. It also depends on coaching, and the Packers haven't had good special teams coaching at all the last two years.
  13. Among the top 30 WR's in terms of receiving yards in 2019: - 4 of the top 10 were taken after pick #60 - 11 of the top 20 were taken after pick #60 - 15 of the top 30 were taken after pick #60 There is no need to spend a 1st round pick on a WR when the data says that you can get good ones in the 2nd and 3rd round. San Francisco didn't get to where they are by spending 1st round picks on WRs; they spent them on DL and OL.
  14. Well, the #1 ranked RB in the class, Zachary Evans, asked for and was granted his release from Georgia... Other than that, some UW coaches started following on Twitter a grad transfer WR from Virginia Tech (Damon Hazelton, Jr.). He already transferred once though and needs a waiver to transfer a second time, apparently even if he has graduated, which could be the "rare" part and why they are tight-lipped.
  15. Plenty of people were calling for Adams to get cut after his second year. Takes a long time to get on the same page as Rodgers - Adams said that earlier this week.
  16. Was Gary injured? Or did he not play a snap? I've wondered how much his shoulder is still bothering him. Perhaps he's been fighting something off that he'll have surgery for in the offseason. I still think Christian Wilkins would have been a better pick.
  17. Fackrell is a guy. He's replaceable. In 2018, Fackrell led the league in sacks per 100 rushes. With the Smiths on the team this year, his job has been more to drop back in coverage, which he did a lot of in 2018 as well. He's perhaps their best coverage LB. He's a good, quality backup. There's a reason he played a lot more snaps than Gary.
  18. Well, maybe it's evidence that Wisconsin sports teams don't cheat. (I'm looking at you, Boston. You too, Houston.)

    Pizza

Had Pequod's for the first time today. Ordered the pan pizza, and thought it was very much like Rocky's except round instead of square. Similar sauce, similar crust, fairly dough-y, but drier than Rocky's. Find it hilarious that many think Pequod's has the best pizza in Chicago... and it's like Rocky Rococco's.
  20. I think you are selling the 49ers short in just calling them 'good'. Their defense has been elite all year, and their offense has been very, very good as well. The 49ers led the league in fewest passing yards per game allowed, and at one point late in the season were on pace for fewest passing yards per game allowed in the last 40 years or so. They built this team by investing in controlling the line of scrimmage - their recent 1st round draft picks have all been D-line and O-line. Not WRs, like many are clamoring for the Packers to do.
  21. I hate to break this to you, but Fiers is not giving you his World Series share nor his World Series ring no matter how much you bad mouth him.
  22. Apparently my snark wasn't that snarky, as Cruickshank visited Rutgers this week. Which, of course, begs the question as to why he would make this move... He's from New York - gets to play closer to home.
  23. This quote from Fiers was in the MJS article but apparently was in the original article in The Athletic: "I just want the game to be cleaned up a little bit because there are guys who are losing their jobs because they're going in there not knowing. Young guys getting hit around in the first couple of innings starting a game, and then they get sent down. It's (B.S.) on that end. It's ruining jobs for younger guys. The guys who know are more prepared. But most people don't. That's why I told my team. We had a lot of young guys with Detroit (in 2018) trying to make a name and establish themselves. I wanted to help them out and say, "Hey, this stuff really does go on. Just be prepared." What I infer from it is that he told his teammates first, not the Athletic. If true, Mendoza's claims don't hold any water and she's in a deeper hole. Now, cue the conspiracy theories that this was orchestrated by the marginal veterans who were losing their jobs to younger, cheaper players. And as for Fiers keeping his World Series share, I'm sure he had a lot of medical bills to pay for what his mother went through when Fiers was early in his career and not making much money. He didn't deserve that, so as far as I'm concerned he can keep his WS share as reimbursement for everything he went through with her. I'm sure that stress contributed to his poor performance in 2013 and getting sent down to the minors, which also cost him a lot of money in major league salary.

    Pizza

The deal was four toppings - one more meat would be too greasy and hard on the gut, one more veggie would be too much veggie. I don't like mushrooms - the cheap ones they put on pizza make me want to barf - and peppers pretty much do make me barf. Onions don't work for me with pizza either. It sounds strange, and I don't like pineapple when it's the only topping (or a Hawaiian pizza with just ham and pineapple), but it really balances out the pizza when it is one of several toppings, especially when one of them is spinach.
  25. The issue isn't whether or not there was hazing - if there is, but nobody tells a university employee (coach, other official) and no university employee is aware of it, then the only people who get in trouble are the people who did the hazing. The issue is whether or not the coaches or other university officials were informed or observed it and did nothing. That can get the university in major trouble.
