  1. Keeanu Benton might be the most physically impressive and imposing true freshman I've ever seen. Legit 6'4", 315, and it's in the legs, upper body, and arms, not a big gut. A true freshman, and he's already a dude.
  2. Prior to the first cutdown date in training camp, injured players with fewer than four years of service time cannot be placed on injured reserve until they pass through waivers. Teams will cut this sort of player with a waived-injured designation, allowing other teams to place a claim if they so choose. If the player goes unclaimed, his team can place him on IR or agree to an injury settlement, then fully release him from the roster. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2019/06/nfl-waivers-difference-release In order for Bolton to be eligible to return from injured reserve this year, he has to be waived/injured before he can be placed on revocable IR. If they placed him on IR before the cuts, like ESB, he would be ineligible to return from IR this year. Also, if he clears waivers and is released, I believe they can resign him to the active roster without having to spend a minimum of 8 weeks on IR. So this may be a play to try to get him back before the end of the year.
  3. Hunter Johnson yesterday: 6-17, 55 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT. Split time with a former walk-on. Minnesota needed a 4th quarter comeback to defeat FCS South Dakota State at home. Despite five takeaways, Nebraska struggled to beat South Alabama at home. Lots can happen, but after week 1, 3 losses looks like the floor for UW.
  4. I think they said he abandoned his splitter for a while due to the tighter stitching on the baseballs, but now is throwing the splitter again.
  5. Coan was 19-26 for 199 with 2 TD and 0 INTs, QBR of 74.7. What exactly is there to complain about? For reference, Trevor Lawrence - at home against Georgia Tech - was 13-23 for 168 with 1 TD and 2 INTs for a QBR of 70.6. Every QB, no matter how good, is going to make a few bad throws a game.
  6. McCray traded and Pankey cut, so I think that's a good sign that Madison made the roster.
  7. I have two really good friends who are ICE agents. Despite what you hear in the news, the two biggest priorities and problems that ICE is tasked with right now are heroine and cocaine coming up from Central America and Fentanyl being smuggled in from China. Unfortunately, Fentanyl can be obtained without a prescription.
  8. [sarcasm]Completely impossible that it could have hurt something else, causing Hiura to overcompensate with something else, causing him to strain his hamstring. Not a chance.[/sarcasm]
  9. I think they were really high on Allen last year and probably wanted to get whatever look they could at him to see if he was practice squad material. Might be a clue that they are keeping one less guard with the hopes of getting a guard or two on the practice squad.
  10. Well, considering that all but five of them were freshmen and all but two of them underclassmen, yeah, that's about what I'd expect.
  11. From what I recall, Light played most of the game at LT. I know that on Madison's second holding call, it was Light who got beat to the inside and Madison slid over to try to pick him up. As for Nijman, he had one of those games where you really didn't notice him, which for an OL, usually means he did a good job. He didn't get beat from what I recall, and looked like he had good balance and footwork. I don't know if he's the last guy cut, but he'll be pretty close to it, and I could see plenty of arguments for keeping him.
  12. There is validity in this point. The counter-point is that if the Brewers plan on not protecting him, it would behoove them to not let other teams get a look at him. Given that the Brewers didn't send Bickford to the AFL, despite missing all of April and May, leads me to believe that there is a good chance that they will not protect him.
  13. His July OPS-A: .395 His August OPS-A: .262 Yes, that's the OPS against him those two months.
  14. (Edit - apparently all minor league players are now eligible to play in the AFL. Some web links are now inaccurate.) Good news for Kirby. Strange that they are putting him in there without any rehab games so far this year. He'll have to be the taxi squad so they can limit his usage.
  15. Stearns said that there will likely be two waves, one on Sept. 1st and one when the Missions are done. Even though they are tied for the 3rd best record in the PCL, they are 3 games back and not likely to make that up. Stears said we will probably see some guys who haven't been up yet this year. That's only Suter, Freitas, Taylor, Supak, and Stokes, and the latter two are highly unlikley. Taylor didn't get called up last year, and with similar numbers and stuck behind Grisham and Gamel probably won't this year either, leaving Suter and Freitas. The Brewers have always called up a 3rd catcher so they could pinch hit or pinch run for the catchers if needed. I don't see that changing. I'll give the chances of Freitas being called up on 9/1 at 80%.
  16. It's his third year in the league. He was on the active roster all of 2017, appearing in the final game of the year, and was on the practice squad for 12 weeks in 2018 before being activated in December. He's had two more years of pro coaching than Madison, so right now he should be better. Give Madison two years of pro coaching and I think he'll be a lot better than Pankey.
  17. So disappointed for Jake Cousins, he was so close to going the entire season - albeit a shortened one after signing out of independent ball - without walking a batter. Gave up his first walk tonight - with three K's, bringing his K/BB ratio for the season to 37/1. I wonder what the record is for most K's in a season before giving up a walk. Cousins got to 34.
  18. People thought we lost something with Smyly, and his August ERA is 7.45 with a 1.067 OPS-A.
  19. You and I must have very different definitions of the word "autonomous". To me it means that a driver is not necessary; it drives itself safely without human intervention. You are implying shared/community ownership. I can own an autonomous vehicle, but have no obligation to let anyone else use it.
  20. There is absolutely no guarantee that going to arbitration gives a player a raise, and usually the Brewers come to an agreement with the player before arbitration - few Brewers have gone to arbitration in recent years. Nelson also has to evaluate his risks - if he asks for too much, then he may get cut and may risk signing for much less elsewhere. He knows he's coming off of a major injury and he has to play prisoner's dilemma too, and may take a guaranteed amount - even less than this year - over an unknown outcome.
  21. Using Miller and having Carlos Martinez warming up in a 12-2 game?
  22. To me the real advantage to autonomous cars is that there will be no parking. Or car ownership. (Except as a unessential luxury item.) I look forward to the day when I can expand my yard to where my driveway and carport are currently located. If I need a car I can order one on an app. All of the open space on the side of streets that is currently used for parking will probably be replaced with bike lanes, which will be populated with people riding e-bikes and e-scooters. But then where will the autonomous cars park when they're not being used?
  23. http://www.brewerfan.net/images/store/dailylinkreport.jpg Organizational scoreboard: https://www.milb.com/scores/brewers/2019-08-26 Just helping out, fill in said logo whenever you have time. Day games for AZL - must be monsoon season. Rain out for Biloxi. The cherry on this turd of a day? A QT-C sighting (though it could have been better).
  24. Pics or it didn’t happen Yellow shirt right behind home plate. Showing more cleavage than Amy.
  25. Looks like Front Row Amy has some competition tonight.
