  1. Among qualifiers, Thames is third in the NL in average # of pitches seen per PA (4.27). I'm going to pull a topper09er and ask if you can name the top two. (Domingo Santana is 13th in the NL at 4.11)
  2. Ian Happ just got tagged out loafing it to 3B on a single to the OF, which negated the run that scored in front of him. Love it.
  3. While Glasnow has done it for more seasons, Freddie Peralta's 2017 looks a lot like what Glasnow has done in the minors.
  4. [sarcasm]Yeah, but this month doesn't count. Only May, June, and August count.[/sarcasm]
  5. With the short start tonight and seven pitchers used I wouldn't be surprised to see Jungmann get called up tomorrow. Today showed why you can't have a long enough bench. Suter doesn't have it, so pinch hit for him early instead of trying to force him to go five; Phillips singles and scores, then use your pen.
  6. I guess we get to cherry pick which months count and which ones don't.
  7. As expected, Allison was activated and the team released LaDarius Gunter. A bit surprising on the surface, as Gunter played the most snaps at CB of anyone last year, but that was due to the injuries to Shields, Randall, Rollins, and Goodson. The drafing of King, the signing of House, the signing of Pipkins, and signing Brown to the practice squad made Gunter expendable as all are more talented and/or more athletic. Rumors that Rickey Jean Francois was put on the waiver wire, but as of now he's still on the Packers official roster. Two sources said he was on the waiver wire; might have been contingencies for waiver claims if someone fell to the Packers. But for now he's still a Packer.
  8. King was drafted to replace Shields whose career was over, not to replace Randall or Rollins. In today's NFL, corners are like starting pitchers - there is no such thing as too many good ones. Anyone who paid attention to the combine knows that Watt blew it up and was one of the two most athletic LBs there. His college progression eerily mirrored CMIII - very athletic, limited experience at position. What Watt did his junior year, after essentially only one year of practicing at OLB, was pretty amazing.
  9. I'm not able to watch, but there has been some debate over the last couple of year that because home plate is not a bag elevated above the ground like the other three and because the catcher can't block the plate anymore (for the most part) that it may be better to run through home than slide. Easier for your leg to elevate and not touch home, and sliding slows you down (which is why they say don't slide at 1st).
  10. They finally play at Minnesota on a weekend. Been years since that happened; everything recently has been during the week. I've wanted to go see them there, but it's always been during the week. Lots of weekday games at the Cubs, which should make tickets easier and cheaper to come by.
  11. Randall and Rollins were hurt last year. Randall had leg surgery in the middle of the season and then returned to play. Corners who don't have legs that are 100% don't do well.
  12. Snap count: Kevin King - 6, Josh Jones - 0 Watt's number of impact plays was half of the total number of snaps of King and Jones.
  13. Chryst changed QBs last year during the GA State game, even though Houston led the team to 216 yards of offense in the first half (and 54 points the week before). Badgers weren't scoring, but it wasn't Houston's fault - he wasn't the one who fumbled at the goal line, or dropped a pass, or ran a route one yard short, or missed a field goal.
  14. They're at the point where they cannot have the mistakes of anyone learning CF, and Walker is the better option at 2B. Nowhere for him to play. But Counsell doesn't seem to want to use data to make decisions, so may decisions are questionable.
  15. [sarcasm]They want CS's season to end so that they can call up Jungmann, Wilkerson, and De Jesus.[/sarcasm]
  16. Just about. For Rizzo they play the 2B in shallow RF and the RF a step or two in front of the warning track.
  17. Santana, who has a .972 OPS in day games, sits. Perez, who has a .610 OPS in day games, starts. I'm getting really sick of Counsell not using data to make decisions.
  18. So far Hendricks getting the LH edge of the plate but Davies wasn't.
  19. Movement and command. He has a little cut fastball that runs into LHH, a 2-seamer that backs up, and a change that runs away from LHH. When he gets ahead in the count he's lethal - you don't know if it's going to cut into or back away from you. He tries to get ahead in the count, and you have to attack early when he tries to put that little cut fastball over for a first pitch strike. Thames and Walker watched two meatballs on the first pitch of their ABs.
  20. Once again they completely abandon the jet sweep, allowing the opponents to put 8 in the box and come crashing in on corner/safety run blitzes off the corner. Even if they just fake it, it keeps the OLBs/corners/safeties at home and opens up the middle. Coan looks like he has a lot stronger arm than Hornibrook, who threw several balls behind receivers and had a bad INT. Coan was an early enrollee and practiced in the spring; he's familiar with the playbook. It probably won't happen, but if he becomes the starter in mid-October I won't be surprised.
  21. Justin Verlander has a 2.33 ERA and .593 OPS-A post-All-Star break. I think calls of him being washed up were a little premature.
  22. Memphis hangs seven in the 8th on one extra base hit, a double. Scahill hangs on in the 9th.
  23. Aaaannnddd still undefeated at Wrigley Field!
