  1. ATL scored three of their four runs on soft-hit bloopers that found a hole. All of the Brewers runs scored on hard-hit balls. If a couple of those ATL hits are 4-5 feet farther/shorter/either side they get caught and the Brewers win. The issue I have is that after a 28-pitch first inning, Davis and Cravy swing at the first pitches by Banuelos in the 2nd. He was having trouble finding the strike zone - make him find it multiple times in your at-bats.
  2. As the playoffs proved last year, doesn't matter who wins the division - what matters is who wins the head-to-head playoff series. You just have to get into the playoffs.
  3. Accurate or not, it's probably not a good idea to say that two of your not just teammates but battery-mates have done nothing since being drafted.
  4. The Pirates are interesting. Polanco and Tabata have struggled and Hart is no longer an answer in the OF, so maybe Parra has some value to them. Kang can cover 3B but is no offensive threat. PIT has young pitching to trade. Is PIT a likely destination for Ramirez and Parra in a package deal? Probably not. But they are a credible threat, and they could proactively acquire those guys to keep them from going to their competitors for the WC - the Giants (Parra), Mets (Ramirez and Parra), and Cubs (Parra). Even the Cardinals could be a threat for Parra and Ramirez as they have a need at OF (Holliday and Jay on the DL, Jay stunk before going on, and Grichuk due to come back to Earth - .298 OBP and .512 SLG) and 1B (Reynolds has regressed to the Mark Reynolds we know and love - could Ramirez play 1B for them?). Maybe PIT wants to keep those guys from their competition?
  5. He would have been a dead duck at 2nd. The pause at home plate had nothing to do with it - you can't anticipate or expect that a major league OF is going to bobble/boot the ball once much less the two times that he did, so he had no reason to be barreling towards 2nd base and doing anything but sticking close to 1B so he doesn't picked off by rounding the base too far. Someone needs to remind Ed "The Human Windmill" Sedar that you don't run when Andrelton Simmons is the cutoff man.
  6. Goforth was up in the 2nd. Lohse didn't give up any runs after Goforth started warming up.
  7. Plenty of teams will be willing to take a chance on Garza at 2/$30M after seeing the Red Sox set the bar at 4/$84M with Porcello and after seeing what Cueto and Grienke (if he opts out) will get. And Porcello is having just as bad of a season as Garza.
  8. Don't forget, his mother was also terminally ill and passed away. 2013 wasn't "getting figured out"; it was physical and mental/psychological issues. Like you said CheezWiz, he is at the least a solid #3 starter.
  9. The Giants have liked Parra "forever" but the D-Backs didn't want to trade him to a division rival.
  10. Attanasio said on the TV broadcast the other week something to the effect of, "We aren't kidding ourselves as to where we are going to finish" and said they will be for the first time labeled "a seller".
  11. Yeah, I was thinking METRA not Amtrak. Amtrak takes you to Union Station; from there walk 3 blocks east to the L station and take the Brown line to Fullerton and transfer to Red line, or like I said earlier, if you want some exercise take the Brown line all the way to Belmont and walk six long blocks north.
  12. Google maps shows you where the train and L stops are. Train will take you to Ogilvie Transportation Center. Walk 2.5 blocks north to L station, take Green or Pink line east to State & Lake, transfer to Red or Purple line north to Addison. If you want to get some exercise, take Brown line to Belmont and walk 6 long blocks north.
  13. Parra is a good player, but not a $14M player. He's playing well above his career norm - time to sell high. Lots of contenders need another OF, so let the demand bid up his return.
  14. Isn't this the optimism thread? Hooray for Parra and Ramirez helping boost their trade value - hope they can keep up this hot streak for the next three weeks (or until they are traded).
  15. Anyone else lose the FSN signal? I have other channels coming through, but FSN is just frozen with nothing.
  16. I created a new profile for Outlook and it seems to be working; it successfully connected to and synced all of my folders. I logged in through the web to Outlook 365 and deleted any emails with large attachments (>1 MB) in my Sent and Deleted folders and that seems to have helped as it synced all folders fairly quickly. I changed my old Outlook profile to not connect to the server automatically and work offline. When I do that, I can sync individual folders but when I try to sync all folders it hangs and keeps asking for my password. Weird.
  17. Need some help from the computer experts here, particularly those who know Outlook. My school email uses Office 365, made the switch about 9 months ago, and I access it through Outlook 2010 on my laptop. It was working fine until yesterday early evening. I tried sending a rather large file (~19MB) to three people in three separate emails. Afterwards, Outlook kept hanging and my computer would freeze. I had to go into Task Manager to kill the process. Tried this a few times, kept having to go into Task Manager to kill the process. Seemed to have trouble syncing the Sent Items folder, so I changed the laptop settings so that it would do nothing for four hours (not go into sleep, hibernate, etc.) and re-launched Outlook and just let it go for a couple of hours. Still having the same problems this morning. When I launch Outlook it will download headers and show in the preview pane, but when I try to click on another email in the Inbox it will usually hang and get the spinning circle with (Not Responding). It also keeps asking for my username and password, which is automatically populated in the window, every 2-3 minutes. Basically I can't do anything with it. I logged onto Office 365 through the web and checked my Sent Items folder - two of the three emails were in the Sent Items so I deleted those and deleted all large emails from the Sent Items and Deleted Items folders. Tried launching Outlook again, but it keeps hanging if I try to do anything and it keeps asking for my username and password. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
  18. The problem is that McCullers and Velasquez are going to run into innings limits in August, especially Velasquez since he was hurt and missed half the season last year and the first month of this year. Then what? The appeal of Lohse is that they won't have to give up much to get him. I don't know that they mortgage the future this year, with their core being so young. Garza being signed for two more years is a non-rental, unlike Cueto and Kazmir, who could be gone after the season.
  19. TheCrew, I don't think that Briggs is saying not to trade Lind, I'm pretty sure he's saying that the Brewers should be able to get more than a B level A-ball prospect for him. And the way that Lind has been hitting, and that 70% of pitchers are right-handed, I kind of agree with him.
  20. Back to back seasons as an All Star in two different leagues. Congrats Tyler Cravy! I think he is much higher than the #24 ranked prospect in the system.
  21. MA has mentioned almost every time he's been on the TV telecast about their "analytics meetings". Not sure what their analytics are, but they definitely use them. That's probably why he's completely befuddled by this season; any halfway reasonable analytics would not have predicted Lucroy, Gennett, Ramirez, Lohse, and Garza to be as bad as they have been so far.
  22. If nothing else, between Harang and Lohse there will be scouts from a lot of contenders at that game. This would be a really good game for Lohse pitch well and outpitch Harang.
  23. It's terrible for their numbers, but does it teach them how to pitch better? Adverse conditions teach people to be more focused because they know that the slightest mistakes can hurt them. Does pitching in that environment teach pitchers to be more focused and work on perfecting their mechanics? I don't know, I'm just asking the question. Think about the opposite - if AAA was a pitcher's haven, would it do a good job of teaching pitchers how to pitch, or would it allow pitchers to get lazy because they could get away with their mistakes more easily? I don't expect Jungmann to continue at this pace, but I do think there is something to pitching in adverse conditions and that teaching you to be more focused and technically sound. I don't think his good performance so far is just luck.
  24. Except for 32 games at Biloxi this season, Rivera has never put up as much as a .700 OPS line with a career OBP of <.300. Now 23, you can't play the age card much longer. That doesn't translate to much major league success, and to me is a C, maybe C+, prospect. Maybe he'll develop, but odd are he won't hit enough to be a starter, thus why he's generally considered a C prospect. I'd trade Goforth or Magnifico for a B level SP or 3B in a heartbeat. And if Neuhaus truly can't handle 3B or SS defensively and is limited to 2B, the Brewers might be better off packaging him to get a SP or 3B. For reference, Tyrone Taylor, Coulter, Harrison, and Gatewood are generally considered B level prospects. I'd trade Goforth or Magnifico plus Cotts for any one of those four. You have to give up quality to get quality. I'm talking about getting a better prospect back that what those guys I mentioned are, that's the point.
