  1. I believe the answer to the question is, "once they are not in last place by the draft, much less the All-Star game".
  2. So... Haniger and Williams... not so much. My guess is Nick Ramirez replaces Haniger. About the only hitter left at AA or above who even resembles a prospect. But quite a spot start today from Strong. This year 58 IP, 40 H, BB down a little from last year at 20, and 59 K. Averaging >2IP/appearance, so he isn't racking up numbers as a LOOGY (numbers very balanced between RH and LH). At 25, almost 26, time to see what he can do against tougher competition.
  3. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/11292141/new-york-yankees-acquire-stephen-drew-martin-prado-trading-deadline Drew, while having a rough year in a somewhat small sample coming off of no spring training and being paid a good amount of money, is a guy I would have really liked the Brewers to have picked up. Backup LH-hitting infielder with some pop coming off of a .776 OPS season last year, still only 31, and basically cost nothing to get because the Yankees were willing to pick up most of his salary for the rest of the year. Would have made a great backup infielder this year, ended the Bianchi/Herrera/Falu experiment, and someone who could replace Segura against tough RH starters and perhaps, if resigned, allow Ramirez to move to 1B next year. And I'm sure the Red Sox would have preferred not to have traded him to the Yankees if they had anything related to a similar offer. This one I am not happy about.
  4. With the amount of time he's missed, I think Haniger is a shoe-in. Right on the mark with a catcher, but I think it's Zarraga or Weisenburger. Good call on Cravy and Rogers. I believe you can only send a max of two who have not played in AA yet. Haniger, Zarraga (if he's not called up; Weisenburger if Zarraga is called up), J. Rogers Cravy, Bradley, Tanner Poppe From below AA: Michael Reed, Nathan Orf Darkhorse: Casey Medlen Darkhorses from below AA: Michael Strong, Mark Williams
  5. Hmmmm.... Well, I started this mess a couple of months ago. Rays want Nelson, Thornburg, Gennett for Price? OK... Nelson, Thornburg, Gennett, and Khris Davis for Price, Zobrist, and Matt Joyce. Better yet, how about Jungmann, Fiers, Thornburg, Gennett, Kh. Davis, and Jorge Lopez (hell, I might even toss in Devin Williams) for Price, Zobrist, and Matt Joyce.
  6. 1 ER, 4 H, and 8 K over 6 IP plus 4 BB constitute the good Ariel Pena or the bad? Does anyone know if Pena struggles with all of his pitches or just certain ones? Some perspective... in all of AAA, Fiers is #1 in K's, Pena is #3, and Nelson is #5. Considering that Fiers and Nelson have both spent time in the majors, that's pretty impressive.
  7. What about Ruben Tejada of the Mets? Top 100 prospect Wilmer Flores is knocking on the door and the Mets arguably two best position players man 3B and 2B so there isn't anywhere to go. Although he is only 24, Tejada has never been able to seize the full-time SS or 2B job. He's never hit for power, but he has a very OBP-heavy OPS with a lifetime OBP of .329 (greater than his lifetime SLG of .314) and is sporting a .354 OBP this year. With Tejada eligible for arby next year and Flores, Wright, and Murphy the starters maybe the Mets would flip Tejada for Estrada to fill Bartolo Colon's SP spot next year. In cavernous Citi Field Estrada won't give up as many HRs and could thrive. Tejada will be under team control until 2018, solidifying the backup SS/2B role for a few years, able to start for Gennett against tough lefties.
  8. Jungmann with an excellent game. Only 4 Ks but no BBs, all five of the hits given up were singles with three of the five being ground ball singles plus a 7:1 GO:FO. Only 79 pitches through 6 innings.
  9. If Napoli is due to make $16M next year it, and the Brewers assume all of it, it won't take a Top-100 type prospect to get him. Likely won't take a top-5 Brewers prospect to get him.
  10. Fiers being Fiers. Bradley making worms tremble - not only a 10:2 GO:FO but four of the six hits he gave up were ground ball singles, and three of those were infield hits. If he can keep this ground ball ratio up he will likely get better as he moves up as he will get better defense behind him.
  11. Why are people so down on Mayo? He's only 26 and had mono or some similar type of virus last year which sapped his strength, and likely had it for a little while before he went on the injured list. That's something that takes a while to recover from.
  12. First, huge thanks to all who make it happen. Second, pretty much exactly what was written above. Never look at DSL stuff, rarely look at Maryvale stuff, occasionally look at Helena stuff. Never click on weather, occasionally click on standings links. Rarely look at video or audio. Thanks again to everyone who contributes, especially to Mass!
  13. My family has had seats in row 54 for 40+ years. Row 40 is right on the edge of the overhang, leaning towards not being under it. The few games where there is weather (that I've been to) fans start getting wet about 12 or so rows in front of us.
  14. How did the scans turn out? My laptop has the same setup (4GB RAM, Win 7 64-bit) and runs just fine. What processor do you have? I have Intel Core 2 duo, 2.40 GHz. If it is a processor you might be able to just swap out processors. I'd also look at the programs that are installed. Uninstall anything that you don't use. Sometimes if you install a competing program with one that is already installed (i.e. install a different anti-virus from the one you had) and don't completely uninstall the program you are replacing they can conflict and it can slow down your computer.
  15. Look at the top of that Maryvale lineup: Stokes Gatewood Harrison Denson Hope those four can progress through the system together at the top of the lineup for the next five years. Remember when people were talking about Gian F Rizzo as a prospect? The 6 BB and 53 K in 48 innings in Maryvale last year is encouraging, even if the hits given up are not. Still only 20, but turns 21 soon and is still in Maryvale. Ariel Pena has to be one of the most maddening prospects in quite some time.
  16. In CA they generally don't have merge lanes, they just shoot you out right into traffic. Makes the freeway come to a halt wherever there is an on-ramp and the slightest bit of traffic. Much worse than having some people who don't know how to merge.
  17. Carpenter just rolled over his left wrist - grimacing in pain! Yadi and Carpenter going out on the same night? Maybe the baseball gods are giving one back?
  18. If the Brewers hang on (knock on wood) and finish with one of the top three records in baseball they will only have ~$1.2M in international bonus cap space next year. Two guys @$500K each would take up most of the bonus cap space anyway.
  19. Glad Braun isn't going. He can really use four days off to rest and heal.
  20. Of course the Brewers, with such a RH-heavy lineup, struggle against tough RHP. Smith leads the league in appearances, and I don't think it is coincidental that he has struggled the last 5 weeks.
  21. Pretty good chance Hermida will be added to the 40-man soon, 9/1 at the latest. The Brewers will need his bat on the bench in September for pinch-hitting, if not sooner. I think Velez has been playing LF with the eye on him being a utility guy next year; at least give him some experience at another position so he isn't terrible if he has to play somewhere besides 2B.
  22. If you're just using it for basic stuff, look on eBay or Craigslist for a refurb. I bought the HP 6730b that I am typing this post on a year and a half ago on eBay in excellent condition with Windows 7, full Office 2010, and a 15.4" screen for $160. Spent another $20 to upgrade the RAM to 4GB and it works fantastic. There are guys who refurb computers and sell them on Craigslist too. Being five years old shouldn't slow down your computer. I have a HP desktop that is 5 years old that I bought as a refurb off of Woot.com (another good place to look) and it runs just fine; this HP 6730b is prolly five years old too. You either don't have enough RAM (easily fixed - can add 2GB for ~$20), need to defragment your hard drive (Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools; should do this once every 3 months or so), are maxing out on hard drive space (take a day and delete programs you don't use and move files to a backup external hard drive), or have viruses/spyware (download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to clean up your PC). Before buying a new computer, if you haven't already: 1) Run Disk Cleanup (Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools) 2) Run Disk Defragmenter (Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools) 3) Download & run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 4) Check your RAM (Start - Control Panel - System and Security - System/View RAM and Processor Speed); if it is 2GB or less, increase it to 4GB
  23. Interesting they used the word "expecting". I wonder who or what they will trade to acquire that bonus pool space? Even if they don't acquire more bonus pool room, if they stay in first place they won't have much of a bonus pool next year anyway so not being able to sign anyone for more than $300k won't be that much of an issue.
  24. The Cubs traded Samardzija because he refused to sign an extension with them. Theo isn't gutting the roster, he's getting the best return he can for a pitcher who will be leaving one way or another. Hammel has been nothing special until this year so he's likely trying to sell high on him. Delmon Young was a top-3 prospect in baseball for four consecutive years. I don't get too excited about rankings.
