  1. Nobody specifically said "2/3rds", but plenty of people called/speculated for him to be the/a DH. "Yep guessing he will be the DH" "This move is about filling the DH position and adding power to the lineup after last year's mostly punchless lineup" "especially if he's getting picked up more as a DH than a backup C. " "The power potential from the DH position just looks totally leveled up compared to last season. " "I'm assuming Sanchez will catch 1-2 times a week and DH 2-3 times a week. " "A Bauers/Sanchez platoon at DH seems like it would be fairly effective." "Brandon Belt and Gary Sanchez would make for a great DH platoon."
  2. The problem is that's the best those numbers have been since 2019, which to me suggests outlier. The prior year, when he had almost twice as many PA's, his wRC+ was 89. And there's a reason he only played 72 games last year.
  3. At $84 for season tickets for 14 games ($6/game) and $2/game for student tickets, not really. I think there's something there. Have to give them a choice, though. If they take NCAA money, it's a contract, and they have to sit out a year if they transfer. If they want to transfer without sitting out a year, they can't take NCAA money.
  4. How many games did he play against lefties last year? (Half as many as he played against RHP, and half as many PAs as against RHP.)
  5. Yes, he's great against the 30% of pitchers who are LH. Not good against the 70% of pitchers who are RH.
  6. He's had one good season offensively in the last four years with an OPS+ over 100. I sure hope he's not the primary DH. Maybe against LHP if Yelich needs a day off.
  7. This is exactly it. If you want to improve at SS, even if these guys are available, here's what you have to pay: Seager - 8 yrs, ~$32M/year Lindor - 8 yrs, $34M/year Witt - 11 yrs, $288M Swanson - 6 yrs, $26M/year Henderson - empty the farm Bogaerts - 10 yrs, $25M/year Bichette - empty the farm Turner - 10 yrs, $27M/year McLain - empty the farm Correa - 5 yrs, ~$33M/year (if he's even any better at the plate) It's either empty the farm or take on significant long-term financial risk (plus prospects), and few of these guys are even going to be available. Compared to what you have to give up or pay for those guys, Adames is worth much more than a comp pick.
  8. My goodness, this system is deep.
  9. Richard Sherman on Hafley, who he played for in SF: “His preparation is some of the best I’ve seen,” said cornerback Richard Sherman who was coached by Hafley in San Francisco. “I’ve had some great defensive back coaches, some great defensive coaches, great defensive minds, and he’s right up there with his preparation and how he breaks down film and how easy and simple he makes the gameplan sound. How easy he makes it for guys to understand. He paints a very vivid picture of what you’re going to see and it’s all about executing on it.” https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2024/02/02/solid-draft-and-free-agency-classes-give-packers-opportunity-to-add-to-safety/
  10. The thing with a 6-man rotation is balancing the workload with a shorter pen. Can only have max of 13 pitchers which leaves seven relievers instead of eight. Will need relievers who can go multi-innings. Going to have to do the AAA shuttle as much as possible with the 5-send down limit. Three off days the first 8 days of the regular season, then 13 in a row with one day off then another 13 in a row with one day off and then another 13 in a row. Can likely keep an 8-man bullpen for only the first 10-12 days of the season. If they can only keep seven relievers after the first week or two, then assuming: Peralta/Miley/Rea/Ross/Hall/Ashby/Gasser are the starters, Williams/Milner/Payamps/Megill/Peguero/Wilson/Uribe are their top seven relievers, that means only one lefty in the pen and one of Hall/Ashby/Gasser is the 6th starter/swingman. Even if Gasser doesn't break camp with the big league team, he will likely need to pick up 12-15 starts to keep Hall & Ashby's innings down. I would also not be surprised to see a SP acquisition in July to address innings limits.
  11. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/careers/why-is-it-so-hard-to-find-a-job-right-now-despite-low-unemployment/ar-BB1hGi3K?ocid=mailsignout&pc=U591&cvid=52abbd563ad34ccc80a16d087a62fb83&ei=32 Everything I experienced. Outside of healthcare and hospitality, it's tough sledding.
  12. Wouldn't it be something if the Brewers took Burnes' $15M salary and signed Bauer with that? Replacing Burnes with someone who was arguably almost as good as Burnes in 2020/2021 AND getting Hall and Ortiz? Matt Arnold, executive of the decade.
  13. And Turner is also why people shouldn't make definitive judgments on 25 year old prospects.
  14. You mean to tell me that cheap Brewers owner paid $16M for Hoskins when he could have had Santana for $6M?
  15. Add that to an OF of Frelick/Mitchell/Chourio. All they need is pitchers who keep the ball in the park.
  16. In case some are forgetting, here's what MLB had to say on Hall after the 2022 season: At full strength in 2022 after a rebuilding program and the organization erring more on the side of caution with holding him out for so long a year ago, Hall’s stuff has continued to be absolutely nasty, with a fastball routinely up to 101 mph and a fading changeup that flashes plus.
  17. Well, they haven't exactly been good at it. See: Cody Sedlock, Hunter Harvey, Dylan Bundy. Gausman didn't really do anything until he left.
  18. As history has shown time and time again, this may not be the last deal. They could easily flip prospects for a starter to replace Burnes. They just knew that Burnes was going to be gone after the season. It was either one season of Burnes + a comp pick, or Burnes for a comp pick + Ortiz + Hall.
  19. Ortiz could play 2B or 3B. Not unrealistic to think that Turang gets sent down to work on hitting or that Black gets sent down to work on defense.
  20. Right now and up until about a week before the draft, pretty much everything that comes out is going to be or have clickbait in one form or another. They're all going to have some hot takes on some players who are deliberately ranked well above or well below where they should be just to generate clicks and discussion. They'll make changes every couple of weeks to generate new content and rarely will it be based on new information (except for the combine, if they even participate in any events, or their pro day). Case in point - Daniel Jeremiah's initial top 50. Kool-Aid McKinstry at #36? "Concerns about deep speed"... really? That's why everybody threw at Terrion Arnold (79 targets in 2023) and not him (39 targets)? Even if he runs >4.50 he has length and ideal size (6'1", 195).
  21. There's ~90 other numbers to choose from. Pick one. Take 71. Who gives a damn whether or not they give it out?
