  1. We don't know that yet. The trade deadline isn't over. If you look back in history, very few big trades are made before the All-Star break. Even fewer now, because with the expanded playoffs a lot more teams are in contention. There's not a lot of sellers right now. Economics, low supply raises prices. Here's an analogy - you're going to have twins and you know you'll probably need to buy a house. But it's not peak selling season yet, few homes are on the market and thus there are few that you like and they're asking over market for them. But you know that if you wait a month, there will be more for sale and you're more likely to get what you want and for, say, $100K less. Logic says to rent for another month, right? Let's hold off and see what happens. It worked today - you don't need to win 11-1, you just need to score one more run than the other team. And they did just that.
  2. I think there's an underlying method to the madness here. The Brewers currently have four good pitchers on the 60-day IL that are likely to/hopefully come back during the season - Ross, Williams, Hall, Bukaskas. When those guys come off of the 60-day IL, somebody is going to have to be DFA'd. There is a point where you call up too many prospects due to guys going on the 60-day IL, because at some point you have to take guys off of the 40-man roster when those players come back. Easy to DFA guys such as Keuchel, Hernandez, Meeker, White, etc., because if they get claimed you aren't going to lose much if anything from your organization. But when those guys start coming back from the 60-day IL and you have to DFA guys you traded assets for (Taylor Clarke, Chad Patrick) or potentially a prospect (Carlos Rodriguez) who could easily get claimed due to a roster crunch, that's not good either. I just don't think they can add to the 40-man anyone else who is valuable to the org because at some point they will have to DFA someone valuable when Williams, Ross, Hall, and (possibly) Bukaskas come back.
  3. Please specify who you are talking about.
  4. Debate electric vehicles, but two things that should be required to be electric are lawnmowers and leaf blowers.
  5. As expected, Fisker filed for Chapter 11. I really hope that a bigger automaker buys the rights to the Ocean because it is a really great vehicle, period, not just EV. Too many ICE automakers trying to build EVs as extensions of current vehicle lines who don't know what they're doing (I'm looking at you, Lexus - 200 mile range for the 450RZ???).
  6. No different that a waiver claim, really. Not many teams selling right now and teams are surely asking for an arm and a leg and another arm for anyone. Will be different in a month. The AL is starting to shake out. Five teams at least seven wins out of the wild card, six teams at least six wins out, seven teams five wins out. Just need to keep the ship afloat for another month (of which, five days are off for the All-Star break).
  7. Yep. 2021 they were #16 overall on 24/7. 2020 they were #27. 2019 #29. The 2019 class included Graham Mertz and Logan Brown. It also included Joe Tippman, Leo Chenal, and Keanu Benton. 2020 included Nick Herbig and Tanor Bortolini. A few others still have a chance (Jack Nelson, Aaron Witt, James Thompson Jr.).
  8. That's fair. The point sveumrules and I are making is that an OPS of .800 (of which he currently sits at .793) this season means a lot more than it has in the past.
  9. Bingo! Especially now that he's working the top and bottom of the zone instead of the sides.
  10. There has been talk of the Iowa coaches messing with his mechanics and pitch selection that caused him to get off to a slow start, but that improved as the year went on: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/brody-brecht-701679 He led NCAA Division I with a .143 opponent average in 2023 before getting off to a slow start this spring as scouts complained about how Iowa has messed with his pitches and mechanics. He made some adjustments on his own and finished strong, which should allow him to become the program's first first-rounder since Tim Costo in 1990. If you're not picking at the top of the draft, those are the guys you have to find - the ones who weren't great because of bad coaching.
  11. Among the 59 players with at least 100 PAs in LF, Winker's 129 wRC+ ranks 12th. There is exactly one LF with an OPS >.900, three at .900 if you round up, and that person has a .390 BA. Eight have an OPS >.850. Offense at LF, league-wide, isn't as prolific as you think.
  12. Pretty rare that happens this early in the season, especially now with so many teams in contention for a wild card spot. Teams are asking for an arm and a leg and another arm this early. That being said, it would have been nice if Tyler Anderson would have left Anaheim with them.
  13. Anyone else getting some Bryce Turang vibes from Wyatt Sanford?
  14. You always have to take bats from Tennessee with a big grain of salt given the short fences there. I wouldn't at all mind Cozart at #34 if he's there. But with Quero's development set back a year and likely having to repeat AAA, do you draft a college catcher that high who could be in the majors in 3 years?
  15. Reminder that Zack Wheeler missed his entire age 25 and 26 seasons with injury and in his age 27 season had a 5.21 ERA, walked 4.2/9, and missed the last 1/3rd of that season with injury. Let's not give up too soon.
  16. Who does Myers' delivery remind you of?
  17. Problem is that this is a weak draft. I'd support it if they could do it, but the value of that 1st round pick isn't as much as it typically is. If they can't, and they came out of it with Scheierman or Tyler Kolek or DaRon Holmes at #23 and Boo Buie or Cam Christie or Pacome Dadiet at #33 I'd be happy. I know that Boo Buie wasn't invited to the combine and isn't on anybody's mock, but I think he can be a really solid player in the league. Made 43% of his 3's, 5 assists and 1.4 steals to 2.2 TOV last year. And the more I look into DaRon Holmes, the more I like him. 6'10", 236, started picking up a 3-point shot last year and made 32 of 83 (39%).
  18. Hopefully O'Rae connects with Turang about what Turang did in the offseason to add ~25 lbs. Can definitely tell that Turang has a lot more muscle in his lower half than last year.
  19. Anything can happen over three batters. Murphy (and others) can't pee his pants after three batters when they're still up 6-1. Should have let Hernandez pitch to a couple of more batters, then bring in Megill once the tying run gets to the plate.
  20. I think a case could be made that a healthy Bucks team was the 2nd best team in the NBA last season. Problem is that they weren't healthy. And the best team was a juggernaut.
  21. He's a shortstop - very few SS put up more than that whopping .744 OPS. Last year 56 players had 100 PAs at shortstop. Swanson's 104 wRC+ ranked 13th. His 4.7 fWAR ranked 7th. In 2022, 49 players had 100 PAs at shortstop. Swanson's 114 wRC+ ranked 7th. His 6.6 fWAR was #1 among all SS. He's easily a top-10 SS in all of baseball, top 15 just offensively, and top 10 SS make a lot of money.
  22. 30th anniversary of June 17th, 1994. Perhaps my favorite sports documentary of all time. NY Rangers victory parade Arnold Palmer's last U.S Open Opening ceremonies for World Cup at Soldier Field in Chicago O.J. Simpson charged with murder and white Bronco "chase" Ken Griffey Jr. ties the record for most home runs before June 30th (30) Knicks/Rockets NBA finals game
  23. Anything close to the Museum campus (Shedd, Field Museum, Soldier Field) will be expensive for parking, as will anything near Navy Pier. Speaking of Soldier, check to see if there is a soccer game or Northwestern Football game that day that will make parking even more expensive/harder to find. Similar to what homer said, download the Parking.com app (you literally have to search for "parking.com app" or "sp+ parking" in the app/Play store; it's a black letter "P" with a small red car inside of the "P"). Many parking lots in Chicago are owned by/affiliated with SP+, the company that owns the Parking.com app, and won't show up or are more expensive on Spot Hero. The lot at the Museum campus is owned by SP+ but may close at 6pm (museums close at 5pm). Don't plan on walking from Shedd to Navy Pier - it's a lot longer walk than you think (2 miles). And, personally, I think Shedd is overrated - the Field Museum is a much better bet. As far as vehicle safety goes, assuming you won't be parking there at 3am you'll be fine. During the daytime there is too much activity/too many people around where they would easily get seen/identified. I might recommend parking by Navy Pier, then Uber to Shedd and back. There will be a lot more people around Navy Pier after 6pm than the Museum campus for vehicle safety reasons. Nobody is down by the Museum campus after 6pm unless there is a night Bears game or a concert at Northerly Island.
  24. I don't know if anyone here has had major surgery or even minor surgery but a doctor friend of mine said it's very common to have some numb/"dead" spots where the surgeries took place. It can take a while for that numbness/"dead spot" to go away, and often doesn't ever go away completely, so you have to develop a "feel" for something in a place where you may no longer have any feeling. That's part of the rehab process.
