  1. Power? He hit 6 home runs in his entire minor league so I do not think power plays into his game at all. He is an accomplished hitter but I doubt he has the best combination of speed and power.
  2. Law's quote on him not throwing well in winter ball is surprising considering his numbers were good across the board. Now the velocity questions and the weight questions could very well be true but to say he was pitching poorly seems wrong.
  3. I do not get where he sees Morlan pitching poorly in winter ball. He was 2-0 with an ERA of 2.77, a WHIP of 1.38 (which is not great, but not poor), and was striking out a guy an inning. He looks to have good control only 3 walks in 13 innings. Now his velocity may be down but his numbers are definitely not terrible.
  4. Oddly enough Jon Heyman said this morning the Brewers were among 3 teams showing interest in Hoffman. Now maybe he is just behind the times, which seems very possible with all the false reports out there, but who knows.
  5. I would take a guy who will turn into Dave Bush for Cameron. Bush was 29th in NL in ERA and was 5th in WHIP. Those are decent numbers for a back-end of the rotation guy. He definitely has his struggles but I would take a Dave Bush type and Cabrera for Cam any day of the week.
  6. Wasn't Donald Veal a top prospect for the Cubs a year ago? I saw he got taken in the first round. edit- I did a little looking and BA rated him 6th in the organization and Goldstein ranked him 3. It looks like he had a rough year repeating AA this year.
  7. I actually think it is okay to wait and see what else the Yankees do and not rush into this trade. If they sign two more top-end pitchers like Burnett and Lowe/Sheets they have no need for Kennedy and Hughes the next couple years except as emergency starters. One of them would seem to be available.
  8. Where did you hear that? I am watching ESPN and they have said that there is a deadline for today and the Cubs have to trade marquis first and have no takers right now.Buster Olney just said it is like a tortoise mating ritual which does not make it sound like it will happen quickly. He also said Vitters will be in the center of the deal which is different than what has been said recently.
  9. We are heading back to the cellar because we did not get CC and are trading Cameron? We still have Braun, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Gallardo, Parra, Weeks, and others. If we can get a starting pitcher say been Sheets we could have the exact same team we had the past couple years that competed for a playoff spot. It is not a Cabrera for Cameron straight up trade. We have no internal options at CF and if Cabrera can regain close to his 2006 form we will be okay.
  10. Lets see if the Yankees are willing to move one of their young pitchers when the have CC, Burnett, some other FA (maybe Lowe), Wang, Joba all there for a long time. Where does a guy like Hughes or Kennedy fit in on that team?
  11. Some news here in Tom's most recent blog He says there may be snag either in the players coming back or the Yankees asking for the Brewers to pick up some of Cams salary. Tom expresses disbelief that the Yankees would want money back.
  12. The article from the Post says it would be at least Cabrera and maybe someone else and that if the Brewers pay part of Cameron's salary it will be to get a better pitcher along with Cabrera. So the Brewers would not be throwing in money to get Cabrera it would be to get a pitcher as well. I could get behind that as long as they do not pay too much. Cabrera is young with good upside. He does not improve the team right now, but he is a better option than Gwynn Jr. If they can get a pitcher back than great. Not a great trade, not a terrible one and it gives us payroll flexibility
  13. That is not really true for the NFL. Rarely do great QB, RB, or WR ever make free agency. Who was the last very good QB to hit free agency because a team could not afford him? The same thing could be said for running backs, most good ones in free agency were either split time guys or older guys. It might be true with the NBA but I really do not pay too much attention to it. However, I think football has proven time and again drafting smart and small free agent signings make you good. That is the best case scenerio for baseball as well.
  14. He also had a WHIP around 1 (McClung was around 1.5) and more than a k per inning. His home runs are worrisome but he had a better save percentage than almost everyone in the NL.
  15. Well if the closer is not on the team and it is not Hoffman it is either Fuentes or a trade. I don't think there is really anyone else out there who would classify as a closer.
  16. Actually, his numbers last year were much better on the road than at home last year. Overall, Hoffman had a WHIP just over 1 while striking out a batter an inning. His home runs given up spiked so that is a cause for concern but other than that everything looked good.
  17. In his blog Haudicourt talking about relievers he says the Brewers have Randy Johnson on their radar at the right price. Johnson would be a nice fit for the Brewers like many have said.
  18. Youkilis is going to be moved to 3B if Teixeira comes in. I highly doubt he is available.
  19. The question is who have we missed out on because of CC signing with the Yankees? No free agent pitchers were going to sign have signed. There have been no trades to speak of and the one that has been talked about we cannot get in on anyway because Peavy does not want to come here. Maybe we have missed preliminary talks with some people but you can always jump in on talks, and not offering Sheets may hurt us. However, I doubt Sheets will be a quick sign do to injury questions and he is available to us now just like he was a couple weeks ago.
  20. He was 7th in league in OPS and was about the same in home runs so I do not understand why power is a question.
  21. Hoffman for a couple reasons. He is cheaper with less long term risk. He does not cost a draft pick. He is also coming off a year with really good numbers except a spike in home run rate. The rest of his numbers were very good. He allows us to save money to sign a starter.
  22. So 4 years 66 million for Lowe and 7 years 160 million for CC. That is just under 40 million for those two pitchers. Their rotation would be CC, Sheets, Wang, Joba and either another free agent or Hughes.
  23. Peavy would have to approve any trade to the Brewers and there are no indications that would happen. With what the Cubs are giving up I do not think Fielder would need to be involved. This situation stinks because the Cubs are really the only team for the Padres to trade with so there is no way for them to drive the value up, because everyone knows their financial situation so they wont keep him.
  24. How has Melvin ruined this team? Who have we missed out that has signed with someone else as we negotiated with CC? It is not Melvin's fault that Peavy has a no trade clause so that he can pick who he goes to and we are not one of those teams. Sheets is still available as is any other free agent pitcher and closer other than K-Rod for that matter (the Wood deal is not finalized). We can jump in on things at anytime and I am sure Melvin was still talking to people.
  25. With the Mets looking like they are signing K-Rod who are the remaining known suitors for the likes of Fuentes, Wood and Hoffman. Cleveland seems likely to be a team making a play, who else?
