  1. Yikes. Tough crowd. In his last 7 appearances he has 14 Ks, 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Numbers don’t always match up with what’s going on. He’s given up inherited runs and hasn’t looked sharp. I guess I will take my chances that a guy striking out that many guys and allowing that many base runners is going to be pretty darn effective - and 11 straight saves is pretty darn effective
  2. Yikes. Tough crowd. In his last 7 appearances he has 14 Ks, 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.
  3. I doubt Kimbrel is this bad going forward, but he likely wont be an elite level closer and he has injury issues. The Cubs are going to have some serious pitching issues the next couple years. Hamels is a free agent. Lester wasnt good this year. Neither was Quintana (except against the Brewers) but the Cubs will exercise his option. Darvish was really good down the stretch. He could actually opt out of his but cant see anyway he does it. Then throw in a bullpen where their best guys are free agents and you have some serious work to do. They are paying an aging and ineffective close, and two aging starters who era's over 4.5 - 46 million dollars next year. The next year quintana is gone but they will be paying lester and kimbrel 41 million!
  4. It isnt just the takeaways. It is that they dont turn the ball over. How many have they had this year? 1?
  5. Who is the guy on the board who claims Hurdle is the best manager in baseball
  6. Except we don't run our scrubs out in the 9th inning so it is even better for us
  7. Wouldnt mind the Cubs scoring one here and having it go into extras wearing these two bullpens thin.
  8. Cubs bullpen has given up 8 hits, and 4 walks with only 3 Ks in under 5 innings
  9. Wasn't someone trying to say Kimbrel hadn't been that bad
  10. I will go off this one Pitchers Locks - Woodruff, Lyles, Hader, Pomeranz, Suter, Guerra, Houser Near Locks - Peralta Battling for the last four spots - Gio, Anderson, Davies, Albers, Jackson, Black, Claudio Hitters Locks - Grisham, Cain, Braun, Gamel, Moose, Arcia, Huira, Thames, Grandal, Pina Near Locks - Spangenberg, Perez Maybe Options - Austin, Taylor, Shaw With the reality of how little real depth we have at the hitting spots I guess I could see us carrying 13 pitchers and only 12 bats. I dont see how Albers makes it at this point. That would leave 6 pitchers for 4 or 5 spots. That is going to be a tough call. Will Claudio's only being able to pitch to lefties keep him off? Anderson seems like the perfect piggy back starter when you look at his numbers.
  11. Grandal is such a perfect fit for this team. He should be resigned and slotted to bat in front of yelich all next year. He is a great hitter for the number 2 spot. His walk ability is amazing
  12. The Pirates are a trainwreck. It is great playing them
  13. Chase doing a nice job working around some not so great fielding.
  14. That's a good way to look at it. The good news, from where I sit, is that both the Cubs and Nats could easily end with a losing record over these next 10 games. Every win the Brewers put up is just so important, and I don't think our last week is as "easy" as it seems. That makes these next 4 about as important as it gets. If we're two up on the Cubs on Monday, I'd feel really good. If we're even, I'm pretty nervous. I agree about the last week. It is easy if you just look at records but they are all on the road and teams that thought they were playoff contenders. I would be surprised if they just lay down. I would be very happy with 4-2 next week. That is why I think 3-1 is really important over the next 4. If we go 4-0 I think we are in. If we go 3-1 i think we need to go 4-2 next week to feel safe and that wont be easy.
  15. I cant cheer for either team so I am just going to cheer for the Brewers to go 4-0. Then a split leaves the Brewers two up on the Cubs and just one back of the Cards. That seems like a pretty ideal situation. Today's game is huge because the Pirates have the look of a team that has given up. They have lost their list 5 by a combined 42 runs or something.
  16. Brewers have the 3rd best ERA and BAA in the NL in September.
  17. Yep. A lot of prospects flash at first. Look at the guys in the Yelich trade. Yamamoto came crashing back to earth. Diaz had a nice first game and has struggled a ton after that. Dubon doesnt walk enough to sustain super good hitting numbers. That will have to change. Wish the kid the best but I am not losing any sleep over him
  18. Dubon's power has been the key. He has 3 hr but he doesn't walk at all. On the otherhand he doesn't strikeout at all either. Will be interesting to follow. His numbers will fluctuate a ton being a small sample. Ops is down to 781 after a rough night.
  19. Lets just pause and appreciate the fact that we are talking about even an outside shot at the division with the way this season has gone. Knebel out to start the year. Chacin and Jeffress injured and ineffective enough to be DFA. Burnes and Peralta end up out of the rotation quickly. Woodruff misses a bunch of time with an injury. Yelich missing time, Huira missing time, Aguilar and Shaw being awful. Cain battling injuries all year. Grandal having a power outage for 2 months. I love how this team has battled through all that and now really controls their own destiny. At one point I was just hoping they would get me to football season now I am scoreboard watching the next 12 games!
  20. Cleveland is only a 1.5 out right now so we obviously want them to be close to the wild card that last week. I doubt the Phillies are going to roll over for a division rival. Those two series are far tougher than what the Brewers have on paper. On paper the Brewers have a huge advantage over the Cards, Cubs and Nats. Looking at rosters those teams seem to have an advantage on the Brewers. It should be a fun last two weeks
  21. Positive from the Cubs game is their bullpen now has to go 5 more innings and they have already used Cishek
  22. The Brewers have the 3rd most wins against team above .500 in all of baseball. They end the regular season 48-40 (barring a play in game). Oddly just 32-29 in games against teams under that mark...but this is optimism thread so lets not dwell on that
  23. It is funny to say the Cubs have a lot of money coming off the books because while that is true they also will have to replace at least 3 rotation spots with no good internal options, most of their bullpen that wasnt good anyway (Cishek and Kintzler were probably their best), sign guys like Bryant, Contreras and Baez, and pay more in arbitration for them in mean time. They may have a lot of money coming off the books but they have a lot of money they are going to need to spend just to maintain
  24. This team has so much heart. If the make the playoffs CC deserves quite a few votes for manager of the year. Look at who we are throwing out there each days. This is crazy.
