  1. Grandal's stats the last month make him a guy I really want to sign. He has started 24 of 28 games with an OPS of nearly 1.000. That is insane for a catcher. He works the count so well and has power. Even with his rough months he 2nd in home runs for catchers, 1st in walks by almost double, and 2nd in OPS. He may not be the best defensive catcher but people were talking about staff era as an indication he might not call a good game but the staff has been pretty solid with him starting a lot lately.
  2. Thanks for the heads up! I wanted to get to one more game with my son before the regular season ended!
  3. Just under 6 innings. Not going to believe he turned any sort of corner. He is pitching out of the bullpen. His last appearance looks good when you see 2.2 ips and 0 runs but when you look closer he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks and of his 7 outs that were hit 6 were fly balls. That line is likely 2-4 runs at Miller Park.
  4. The Cubs will have to go to their bullpen though
  5. Yes, they need to still win every series and they would be in great shape. If they either finish the sweep of the Marlins or win the series vs Padres instead of a split, they could probably afford to even drop 2 of the Cardinals series. 11-6 feels safe to me to at least tie with the Cubs or anyone else. Other teams are at least 2 games back so that would mean they would need to go 13-4. That is tough. The Cubs have a favorable schedule outside the Cards. If they go 4-3 vs the cards the would need to go 7-3 in their 10 vs Padres (1), Pirates (6), and Reds (3). That seems doable. But if they go 3-4, 11-6 becomes harder. Go 12-5 and I think we are in. 12-5 means beating the Marlins today, then either one series sweep or taking 2 from the Cards.
  6. What do we feel like the Brewers need to go over the last 17 to get in? Would this be enough? 1 vs Marlins - 1-0 3 vs Cards - 1-2 4 vs Padres - 3-1 3 vs Pirates - 2-1 3 vs Reds - 2-1 3 vs Rockies - 2-1 For an 11-6 record.
  7. I wouldn’t say the dynasty is dead because if they get in it will be the 5th straight year they’ve qualified for the post season. However, we can say the success cycle is hard. There are fewer Kris Bryant’s and Javier Baez’s available when your picking 25th overall. A common failure to draft and develop starting pitching leaves them with a 100 million dollar rotation that has been up and down all year long The Cubs feel a little like the Packers after the 2011 Super Bowl win. It felt like more were to come. They didnt fall apart but teams caught up to them and they havent won since.
  8. Since the sweep by the Cubs the first weekend in August the Brewers have actually been playing good baseball and mostly against good teams. 19-11 over that stretch with only 2 series against bad team - Pirates and Marlins (who they have went 6-0 against). 6 wins (including the Cubs twice, Dbacks and a decent Rangers team) - 15-5 2 splits (against Twins and Astros) - 2-2 3 losses (twice to Cards and once to the Nationals) - 2-4 With playing bad teams better lately maybe that means the Brewers can really take advantage of this schedule coming up. They have one more game against the worst record in the NL, then series against the next 4 worst records in the NL with the Cards mixed in.
  9. But I was told this team was done like 25 times this year... Knocking the Cubs out of the playoffs would be icing on the cake
  10. Yeah I think this is where I am at. Sure they will look short-handed against a roster like the Cards but against the Pirates, Padres, Marlins, Rockies and Reds they wont. Maybe the Reds but they are scuffling. Winning a solid majority of those games is definitely possible
  11. How is their schedule easier than ours? We both play cincy We both play Miami but we get one more game - advantage brewers We both play the cards We both play the Padres but they get two more games. We essentially swap those extra two Padres games for the Rockies - advantage brewers They play 4 vs the Mets and we get the Pirates instead - huge advantage brewers
  12. Did you forget to use blue here? Maybe just maybe
  13. I still can't decide if Yaz is an upgrade from pina
  14. The Phillies and Nationals have brutal stretches. Both only have have one team with a losing record
  15. There is a difference between a ss who can't hit and a 3b who can't hit. One is usually one of your better hitters and the other is normally your 7th or 8th hitter. You can normally hide a bad bat at ss if they field well. The problem is Arcia isn't just bad right now. He is awful
  16. If they win tomorrow they are 2 back with 17 of 20 vs teams under 500. The season isn't over by any stretch. Maybe not likely but still a shot
  17. Shwarber is just embarrassing in the of. Yelich is amazing
  18. What do you mean gets a call? GameDay had it clearly as a ball
  19. Next week we should get to see all these kids but Harrison. Harrison was injured late in the AAA season so he didn't get a call up. I guess maybe he still could. Diaz has really struggled in the majors. Yamamoto has scuffed since his hot start. Brinson is putting up similar number to what he did in the past. It will be fun to see all of them out there though
  20. I could go either way on if CC should go yell at the ump. It is incredibly frustrating to see the ump do it twice in a game. Those pitches were not even really borderline. Sure yelich shouldn't have swung at bad pitches but that doesn't change anything about the fact that those calls were terrible and could have changed the outcome of the game. I don't know the solution. Not sure if it is computerized zones but I am coming around
  21. Only if every pitcher could also touch 99 with his fastball and had good off speed stuff
  22. That was not a strike. Cole is already really good. He doesn't need gift calls
  23. Was there command? He’s normally wild in the zone. He threw 38 pitches, only 24 strikes. And he allowed 2 hits before striking out the side. You have his line wrong. I agree with most of your post but I dont think I would say he ONLY threw 24 for strikes. That is 2 out of every 3 pitches for strikes. That seems pretty solid.
