On top of that I love how bad their rotation and bullpen have been. Now it is early and everything could get right for them but those two units looked weak to me before the year started. Well maybe the rotation wasnt weak but it was very dependent on old pitchers staying healthy with very little depth to help. But the Brewers starting 4-1 without Jeffress or Knebel is huge to me. 5 divisional games in and a lot of confidence has already been built. Love the Wilson and Claudio (just needs to be more consistent throwing strikes) additions so far.
Starters (Hendricks and Newcomb) for the Cubs and Braves combined to pitch only 8.1 ip giving up 23 total baserunners and yet only 2 er. That is pretty much 3 baserunners per inning. Hendricks had quite few unearned runs but that stat was crazy me
Cards didnt really cash in that much though. Had bases loaded and no one out still in a 4-3 game and didnt score any more. That was with DeJung, Ozuna, Molina batting. Ouch. Pirates have some nice arms in the bullpen
People think our pitching staff has issues. This was obvious going into the year too. Their bullpen isnt good. Strop and Cishek are solid but that is it. Their rotation is old and lacks depth. Darvish looks like a huge question mark. Hamels wasn't good today and banking on him being the Hamels of old seems unlikely. I think a lot of people know the names of the Cubs pitchers so they assume they are better than they really are. On the other hand man can that team hit.
Add in Rangers taking 2 of 3 vs Cubs. On topic of the Cubs their rotation and bullpen has some really serious questions right now. Darvish and Hamels were bad and the bullpen was brutal the last two days and looks bad on paper
36 pitches through 2 innings isn't bad. I imagine they'll be happy to get 5-6 innings out of him today. True. With the state of our bullpen I would love to see a 7 inning start by a starter soon
If you are Marquette it would be easy to freak out but honestly this is just things balancing back out. Marquette had won every close game they had played up until St Johns part 1. Something like 6-0 in games that were within a possession or two late. After St. Johns they beat Nova so they were 7-1 in very close games. That has now evened back out a bit to 7-4. They weren't going to be able to sustain that pace. Computers had them as mid teens to 20 team ranked team most of the year. They are now low to mid 20s. I think the real Marquette is somewhere between the team that was winning every close game and the team that can score in the last 5 minutes. Somewhere around a 5 seed come tourney time.
This has been a constant refrain that a lot of things broke right for the Brewers and I am just trying to figure out what all those things were. Davies got hurt. Nelson missed the whole year. Anderson regressed. Miley missed part of the season. Thames was hurt and then ineffective. Pina missed time. Arcia was terrible for most of the year and Sogard and the rest of the replacements werent good either. Albers got hurt. Knebel missed time. What were all the things that broke right?
They got the first two of that stretch. Split the next two and they are in great shape. Pretty impressive. How they righted the ship after the 1-4 stretch.
This is MLB news since it is the owner of the Cubs. If a player said something like it would be a huge issue. Will be interesting to see if it is a big deal for an executive. Dont want this to become a political debate so mods can delete it if they want. https://sports.yahoo.com/cubs-patriarch-joe-ricketts-condemns-islam-leaked-emails-muslims-naturally-enemy-001154007.html
Sure. But we do have a budget and what is the best way to spend that money. I would rather save some to have if we need to trade for a middle IF in case Huira isnt ready or Arcia struggles. Both Miley and Keuchel will get multi-year deals and I want some of that money for a catcher again next year too. I wouldnt be sad to get both just dont know if that is the best way to spend our limited resources
I get needing depth and the Brewers have no real sure things - but that is true for a lot of teams. I think they for sure add a lefty - either Keuchel or Miley. Signing both would seem excessive and to me not necessary because I think a rotation of 1. Miley/Keuchel 2. Chacin 3. Burnes 4. Woodruff/Peralta - other in bullpen 5. Anderson/Nelson/Davies Is both deep and has the potential to be very good. With just one add you are 8 starters deep with Geurra and others who could spot start. You could trade one and still be 7 quality starters deep
