  1. For a bat they are good at 2b, 3b, Rf, c for sure. At 1b I think they are good unless you want a right handed bat there. OF all depends on Cain and Braun. Gamel provides great depth there but if those two guys are going to continue to struggle we might need another OF bat. SS is obviously a weak spot but honestly we could easily live with it if our OFers were hitting. If Cain was close to last year a lineup of Cain, Yelich, Grandal, Moose, Huira, Thames, Braun/Gamel, Arcia is more than good enough to win games. Grandal should not be leading off. As to pitching to me they are a starter and reliever away. If they had another starter Knebel type this bullpen would be in much better shape. Albers and Jeffress become 7th inning guys. Claudio just pitches to lefties. Burnes, Peralta, Houser provide multiple inning options. Guerra is there as well. Starting rotation of Woodruff, other starter, Chacin, Davies, Anderson gives them enough quality starts to win. Maybe the other starter is Gio or Nelson. So a right handed bat that can play first base and LF would be great (if only this could be Braun). A starting pitchers who pitches like a 2/3. An 8th inning guy. This team looks a lot better with those. So this team looks a lot better if Cain is healthy and one of Braun/Aguilar is hitting, if Knebel doesnt get hurt and either Peralta or Burnes doesnt implode
  2. Incredibly dependant on injuries. They have no real depth especially with starting pitching. They now have injuries in the rotation and they are not getting very good starts. Hamels could be out a little while. They have the lineup to win without great pitching. That is what they might have to do
  3. DJ is doing well with the Reds but he is also working with a better starting rotation. He has a legit ace and 4 pretty solid starters. I don't follow them closely but their rotation has seemed quite healthy. The Brewers on the otherhand put their hopes in 3 young guys and only one panned out. Chacin, anderson, Gonzalez have all missed time. The mistake seems to be Stearns and Counsel believing they could trust Burnes and Peralta instead going after guys like Gray and Roark Edit - this doesnt begin to factor in how much losing Knebel and having Jeffress injured and then regress has hurt how this team approached pitching. They don't have the bullpen to go with short starts.
  4. Getting Korver would really fill a couple needs. Would be solid depth signing and could really make teams pay for trying to build a giannis wall
  5. Aguilar has missed a lot of balls this year period. Fastballs down the middle, hanging breaking balls, pitches way outside the zone. It is to the point where I was slightly impressed he hit a fly out to the outfield. He didn't strikeout or roll over a weak ground ball
  6. I know i shouldn't get my hopes up after one inning but that was the Burnes I expected going into this year... Well I was hoping it would be as a starter
  7. Yamamoto with his worst start of his mlb career the other night. He still isnt get hit much and is striking guys out but walks are his problem. The reports I read are that he doesn't have top end stuff so he relies on hitting corners. He is probably nibbling too much. The question is if he starts leaving balls over the plate will the hits start coming in bunches. Diaz got on another hot streak to end the month of June. He could be a solid player. Harrison has a nice hit streak going. He continues to strikeout at least once a game. I just don't know if that translates well going forward.
  8. T-Wolves are losers here too. They wanted Russell. They were trying to move Wiggins and get Russell. I am guessing no one wanted Wiggins contract.
  9. Highest paid player in the league is 4.6 million. Mirotic turned down 3/45. So Mirotic would have to be by far the highest paid player to even make it half. That's a lot of money to give up to go home. Dude's in his 20's. If you have a chance to set yourself up for life at that point, I'd say you gotta take it. But who knows what else is going on in his life. Mirotic has made 45 million in his 5 year nba career. I think he could be set for life already if has even a semblance of a clue of how to handle money.
  10. If the hamels injury is serious at all they could have a rotation of Lester, Quintana, darvish, chatwood and Montgomery. Could be a good a chance to get the division lead back if the Brewers can get right
  11. Were people really expecting all the guys we traded to the Marlins to flop? Right now Brinson looks like a AAAA type player, Harrison strikes out way too much but has potential, Diaz is impressive but has come back to earth a bit and then Yamamoto has been terrific in the majors. The Brewers got an MVP level player and at a crazy low salary. Lets get a little real on Yamamoto right now. His BABIP against is .167 which would be a full .100 ahead most of the nearest eligible pitchers. That will regress to the mean some but he still looks like an exciting prospect for the Marlins and would be nice to have in our current rotation
  12. That's just not gonna fly. It has be horrible for one of the teams and fodder for getting that GM fired. Not sure when NYChez's post was from but he has some points. Yamamoto just had a great first start. Will be interesting to see where he goes. Harrison is sporting a nice .860 OPS but is also striking out 1/3 of the times. I think to say he is exceeding expectations is strong since he went from being ranking as a prospect to now to being ranked and likely being borderline top 100. Diaz has seen a power surge this year. if that is for real he is a really good prospect. He doesnt strikeout a ton. He hasnt been very good since 2016 but he looks to have turned the corner. IF (and this is a big IF) Yamamoto becomes a solid middle of the rotation starter, Diaz becomes the starting everyday 2b and one of harrison or brinson (this is where I am the least solid) become a solid starting OF then the Marlins did alright. I say alright because imagine what the Brewers could get for Yelich right now..
  13. Hard to call 35 year old Braun an underachiever...I mean his overall stat are comparable to last year and at this point anything can decline and not be like it once was. Agreed on Chatwood. 5.0 BB/9 is horrid and not very good. Someone can take any previous "wild" Brewer and they will probably be better than that. It is actually the second worst mark for a season in his career (so far). He limits hits a little bit, but it doesn't make up for a not so good K/9, HR/9, or the walks galore. That being said he has gotten results doing it before (2016). Even if he puts up a 4.69 ERA like 2017 that isn't terrible if he is replacing a back end guy short term...but long term or if he replaces one of their better guys...yikes. I think mostly everyone was hoping for Braun to be better than last year. He under achieved last year too. Now this may be the hitter he is now but I still think is fair to say it is a disappointment. I think anything under an .800 OPS was going to be a disappointment for Braun. A big issue has been strike outs. He is striking out quite a bit more this year. If he can get that under control and start to hit lhp he will be fine. He is just a disappointment now
  14. Braun should on the under achievers list too. His WAR is .1. His OPS is .784. Gamel has been more valuable with a WAR of .8. Braun has hit some big home runs but he hasnt been good. He has actually been brutal against left handed pitching. OPS of just .658. His career is .986. He used to crush lhp. That needs to return in a lineup with so many lefties. Oddly Gamel also has slightly reverse splits with an OPS against lefties higher than righties but that is weighted by really high BABIP vs lefties.
  15. Look closer at Chatwood's stats. Nothing tells you he would be good as a starter. His WHIP is right around 1.4 recently. Guys are getting on base against him at an impressive clip. His strikeouts are good but he is essentially giving up one hit an inning and walking a guy every other inning as a reliever. That wont play well 2 or 3 times through the order. Montgomery has been a disaster this year
  16. Sounds good. PM sent Should be quite the crowd for the game.
  17. Twitter makes the IGTs look sane
  18. Very candid interview actually. Directly say Shaw needs to perform to keep his spot and that this move will be revisited if Aguilar and/or Shaw continue to struggle. Talks about tweaks Shaw made to his approach so we will see if that helps. Someone earlier said Shaw is a one-dimensional hitter. That isnt true at all. He isnt a high average guy for sure but when at his best he works the count, draws walks and has good power. His OBP the previous two seasons was higher both years than Huira's in his short stint.
  19. I thought Huira deserved the right to stay up, but I am not going to freak out over the move. I would have a short leash with Shaw though if he looks lost at the plate again.
  20. No worries. I figured it was a long shot
  21. I thought he was a for sure resign. I can't complain about our big signing of Grandal and Moose. Our offense would be in trouble without them but not signing Miley was a big blow. Maybe he wanted to be in Houston but still
  22. Odorizzi has been great this year which is crazy because he wasn't good at all last year and really before that. He wouldn't have been in the rotation to start the year but would have been the anderson out of the bullpen and would have definitely had a chance to start. There are quite a few reclamation projects that would have looked nice so far. It will be interesting to see what we are saying in august
