  1. I am torn on the thoughts of the franchise. Our offense is really good. 1-8 this is probably the deepest lineup I can remember if healthy. Aoki, Segura, Braun, Ramirez, Hart, Gomez, and Lucroy is a great lineup. Yet the pitching is so bad and the minor leagues dont have a ton of pitching talent ready to make an impact that there is no way for me to be excited or even happy with the state of the franchise. Maybe Peralta, Hellweg and Nelson pan out and then Jungmann, Burgos, and others can fill in some spots but I just dont have a ton of hope right now. On offense I think you can build around Braun, Gomez, Segura, and Lucroy. I would seriously look to trade Aoki, Ramirez, Weeks (if he stays hot and someone is willing to buy at a higher price), and I would trade Hart this offseason. I think Schafer and K. Davis could man RF. 1B you would hope Helton or Morris could be the guy. 3B and 2B are bigger issues. I guess Scooter but I dont see him as a long term answer Pitching I would hope trades could next some young arms. I would look to deal Lohse (who will have more value than some think) and Yo. I love Gallardo but this team isnt contending the next two years. Starting pitching at the deadline brings back more than it should so I would deal them if possible. Axford and KRod would be the next to go.
  2. Rickie is now just behind Brandon Phillips in OPS and pretty middle of the road for NL 2nd Basemen. People overreacted to his poor start but he is back hitting well. If this offense was healthy it would be one the best ever for the Crew. Aoki, Segura, Braun, Ramirez, Hart, Weeks, Lucroy, Gomez. You could put those guys in almost any order and score a good amount of runs.
  3. This is great news for the Bucks. If they could some how do a sign and trade with Ellis that would be great but I am happy to have him out of the picture. Now let Jennings move on and start the rebuild.
  4. The Gomez offer better be really, really good. He is a better hitter than Schafer, a bigger threat on the bases, and an elite defender. Schafer may be alright out there but he is nowhere near Gomez. I am not opposed trading Gomez but the offer would have to great
  5. They keep offering money to Ellis and I dont get it. He isnt good. He is inefficient, a ball-hog, and even when his shots are not falling he just keeps shooting. I would be happy with a team that doesnt have Ellis or Jennings next year. I would be bad but I dont see either one of those guys as centerpieces for the team going forward
  6. More of a punk and an idiot on top of that.
  7. And now has a 4game hitting streak with a HR and 2 Dbls in it. Someone coming off an Oblique injury and having a rough start can be expected. He's warming up. I'd take a bet his WAR ends up above Replacement level by end of the season and wouldn't blink. He wasnt very good last year either. It isnt just the injury. He has a .662 OPS in May. His fielding numbers have fallen back to reality and he simply he is hurt again. He could still turn out to be special. A lot of guys who know a ton about baseball think he will be great so maybe he turns it aroun. Oh and he continues to be a punk. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/brett-lawrie-apologizes-blue-jays-dugout-argument-manager-221215907.html Edit - And now he is on the DL again
  8. That is random and awesome

  10. Dont say anything bad about Brett Lawrie. We gave up an all-pro when we traded him. Some were calling him a sure fire All-Star. This year is obviously a small sample but he is hitting .179, with an OPS of .577. Along with that he has struck out 26 times with only 7 walks. He was a guy who stole some bases too but he has 0 this year but I guess it is hard when you are never on base. He wasnt very good last year either with an OPS of .729. On top of all of that he is not likable at all.
  11. Not sure why his name is mud. I must have missed that. But this is pretty awesome. I love seeing professional athletes going above and beyond what is expected with things like this.
  12. The crazy thing is we would have had to give up more to get Profar. We ended up getting Segura and Hellweg. Pena could be a bullpen guy as well. I think Hellweg has potential to be a solid starter if he can cut down the walks but at worst he should be a power arm in the bullpen.
  13. Brett Lawrie is 2-19 with 2 singles,9 K's and 0 walks since rejoining the Blue Jays. His OBP is actually lower than his average right now. Obviously, he will heat up just like Fielder will but rough few games for former Brewer top prospects
  14. I was thinking about how good this lineup could be if/when Hart and Ramirez return. We honestly wont have a weak spot up and down the lineup. Weeks will rebound in all likelihood. 1-8 that is a very good group of hitters.
  15. No coach tells a kid when he is recruiting him that the kid has a scholarship for one year. When recruited the coach tells the kid he has the scholarship for at least 4 years. If all coaches had the same view of scholarships as you do there would be a lot more kids getting cut every year but that doesnt happen. I don't think you know what Buzz Williams tells various payers he recruits, so to suggest he over-promises is unfair speculation on your part. Jake Thomas, for example, knew he was coming to a guard laden team and shouldn't be surprised when the team has no use for strictly a shooter who couldn't shoot. In fact, maybe Buzz has players transfer because he is brutally honest about their future instead of making promises he can't keep. I think Thomas is a completely different situation. I fully believe he was told he had a one year scholarship. In fact it was pretty much widely reported at the time. It is the same thing with Showalter for the Badgers this year. A team is a scholarship down for a given year so they give it to a walk on. There is nothing wrong with that. Thomas left because he knew he didnt have a scholarship after this year and because he didnt really play much. It was a good move for both sides. His situation is different than a kid signing a LOI out of high school. I can all but guarantee Buzz, or any coach for that matter, has never told a senior in high school he would only have a year to year scholarship. That kid would move on to the next major scholarship he has in a heart beat.
  16. No coach tells a kid when he is recruiting him that the kid has a scholarship for one year. When recruited the coach tells the kid he has the scholarship for at least 4 years. If all coaches had the same view of scholarships as you do there would be a lot more kids getting cut every year but that doesnt happen.
  17. Exactly. Just because oversigning is common doesnt mean it is right. Also, a lot of time people defend this stuff and transfers because athletes leaving dont come out and say they got cut so they act like it was the athlete's decision to leave. However, what athlete with any pride would say his former coach said he wasnt good enough. Part of the reason oversigning isnt seen as a problem is because the athletes who get run off dont raise a fuss about it.
  18. There is a "punishment" in place for a transfer. They have to sit out a year. If a school cuts a kid there is no punishment for the school. Blue never signed a LOI with Madison and Brust got out of his because there was a coaching change. Once an athlete signs a letter of intent he is with that school or else he loses a year of eligibility and the school now has a chance to replace that kid. If a school runs of a recruit he loses a year of eligibility and now has to put himself back on the market after months or years of teams actively recruiting him. The system heavily favors the school over the athlete. I agree each scholarship counts but a school should not be able to run guys they recruited and offered and signed just because they now like someone more. You committed to the kid. Buzz has 16 non juco kids sign letters of intent to play at Marquette and only 7 are still with the team. Something about that just doesnt seem right to me but I dont know all the reasons.
  19. Yeah i was think more on the Newbill situation (and Roseboro and Durley). A couple of those guys "decided" Marquette wasnt a good fit for them right before Marquette picked up a transfer or something but that is fairly common-place in Division 1 basketball but I am just not a fan. If you offer a kid and he accepts you made your decision. Coaches can "cut" kids with no punishment for the program but the kid has to sit out a year I wouldnt take anything the Maymon's say seriously. That package deal is a headache waiting to happen
  20. I dont want to get into a Marquette bashing thread on a Brewer's board since I assume many are Marquette fans. There guys who left Marquette under Buzz under less than ideal circumstances. They even said stuff to reporters about it. It is what it is. I dont like oversigning and Buzz has done that. He has had guys who have signed letters of intent find out there isnt a spot for them. I dont want to get into a big thing on it though. However, these past incidents are why something like Thomas gets looked at as a guy getting run off even though this time it was really sloppy journalism Marquette is still oversigned for next year. It sounds like Otule is coming back so they will have to find one scholarship. Someone will have to be transferring.
  21. Yep, that is my biggest annoyance with how Bilas and Davis bashed Bo. Blocking a transfer to a few schools still leaves a kid - who CHOSE to leave, numerous options. Oversigning a kid leaves a kid, who WANTED to stay, with fewer options because it is usually closer to signing day or even in the summer and that kid as essentially been done taking visiting and being recruited for months or over a year. Oversigning is annoying but as long as ESPN is love with NCAA programs like Kentucky in bball and pretty much every SEC school in football they will never talk about it.
  22. The Thomas transfer is not news. The next transfer, if Otule, stays will be more of a story. Marquette is still oversigned by one guy if Otule gets another year. The uproar over the Thomas transfer is lazy journalism. Marquette has had its issues with shady transfers under Buzz but this is not one of them
  23. Giving immunity players to get info on a known cheater and a guy who the MLB wants to prove is a user is not putting on serious face. Why are they just going after those two? They were not the only two guys on the list. You go after these two because ARod is already public enemy number 1 and he has already said he used. He is very safe to go after. You go after Braun because you think he beat your system and it saves face to find out he did. They are putting on a serious face that they want people to think the MLB is pursuing a much cleaner game
  24. Marquette gets a 3 seed and great draw for them.
  25. Tomorrow wont matter. It has been said before the committee has their brackets done before the finale of the Big Ten tourney. Where we are now is where we will be If that's the case, I'd expect the Badgers to get a five seed. I don't see them getting a four seed, even though they should because they've handled all the high seeds from the Big 10 this year (except for MSU). I guess it depends how much stock they put on strength of schedule, as they really only have one bad loss this year. If people can look past RPI (which is a flawed ranking system) and look at other ranking systems as well Wisconsin looks very good. Kenpom has them at 9 and Saragin has them at 10. There was actually a study done of teams that were ranked vastly differently by Kenpom and RPI and almost every time Kenpom's predictions were more accurate. I know the committee needs to use computer rankings to see how good teams are because they cant watch every game, but they need to use more than just RPI. Belmont is 17 in the RPI with 0 top 25 wins (0-2) and 4 losses to teams outside the top 100. UNC is 16 with 1 win and 6 losses vs the top 25. How can you be considered top 20 if you lose to almost every good team you play? They are just 2-7 vs top 50 teams Memphis is 13 going 0-2 vs top 25 teams and are 3-3 vs top 50. 21 of their 30 wins are against teams outside the top 100 Colorado St is 18 but is just 3-7 vs top 50 teams and have one loss outside the top 100 Wisconsin on the other hand is 28 but 5-6 vs the top 25 and 8-7 vs the top 50. They have one loss outside the top 100.
