  1. Badgers stay .5 a game out in the Big Ten. Penn State is a trap game but if they take care of business there they will have a good chance to be playing for first place in the Big Ten when OSU come to Madison
  2. CBS Sportsline has a power rankings out today. They have the Brewers behind the Kansas City Royals. The Brewers are 18th! Ouch. Here is their snip it on the Brewers. Good business:[/b] Aramis Ramirez doesn't help the righty/lefty balance, but he remains a credible middle-of-the-order bat. Bad business:[/b] Replacing Yuniesky Betancourt with Alex Gonzalez is like replacing a gently stewed diaper with a decaying ferret. Shortstop may not be the easiest position to fill nowadays, but come on. Prognosis as of 11:14 a.m. GMT on Jan. 26, 2012:[/b] It would be a lot rosier if undercover Cardinals operatives didn't frame teetotaling family man Ryan Braun by slipping all that synthetic testosterone into his soup.
  3. This was what I took away from the Dan Patrick piece actually. The new points he brought up - 2 other Brewers with odd results, it wasnt a PED or masking agent, it wasn't medical - make it seem like Braun is going after the test themselves. Pebadger has made it seem like this was the best possible defense all along. Go after the test not what you actually put in your system since the later really does not seem to matter to MLB. I am bracing myself for a suspension but since I have actually believe Braun did not used steroids from the start I am holding out hope
  4. I agree over the whole season it is a myth, but just last year how many times was Prince intentionally walked in a situation to put the team ahead or tie only to have Casey come up and make outs? At the end of the year all the free passes make the OPS look good but when it comes to winning a game I don't think anyone would rather have Prince on first than at the plate. But in this argument Aramis Ramirez is not Casey from last year. People aren't going to consistently walk Braun if Ramirez has a similar year to last, especially considering with Weeks and Hart in front of Braun there will be guys already on base with Braun.
  5. Unless the Brewers were able to get him on a 4 or maybe 5 year deal they were winners by not signing him. It is smart baseball. Are the Twins winners because they signed Mauer to a ridiculous contract? When Pujols didnt sign with the Cardinals people didnt just immediately write them off but that is what some are doing with the Brewers and it makes no sense. This is a team with 4 offensive guys who have recently been All-Stars (Braun, Weeks, Hart, ARam) and a very good rotation and back-end of the bullpen. Sure we have question marks but rumors of the Brewers demise seems exaggerated. I would have been sick to my stomach if the Brewers would have given Prince a deal anywhere close to what he got. The Brewers would have been losers had they not done a nice job upgraded at SS and 3B (not amazing moves but solid) and if Gamel hadnt at least shown some life in the minors. What is also annoying is I bet Olney would say the Cubs were smart (and winners) for not signing Fielder or Pujols
  6. Glad Prince was on our team and really glad we didnt give him a contract anywhere near that amount! I like the Tigers so glad they got him
  7. Agree completely. It was a fine movie with good not great performances. It was a really down year for movies in my mind. The movies that were supposed to be Oscar contenders like Shame, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, J Edgar, and others disappointed. I think this year a movie like Moneyball looks much better than it was. There were numerous movies from last year I thought were better
  8. I wonder if Detroit had any real interest before Martinez went down? They are in a very winnable division. They now have the best pitcher and the two best hitters in the division. They look pretty good going forward.
  9. Looks like the sandwich pick is number 38. So we pick 27, 28, and 38. Those picks could go a long way in getting some impact bats after we addressed pitching early and often last year
  10. We will get their first round pick. Pick 27. We pick 28 as well. We will also get a sandwich pick. Time for some impact bats
  11. +1. Anyone using fielding percentage to defend Fielder doesn't watch him at first. His range is terrible, his picking ability is terrible, his arm is terrible. He made a couple nice plays in the post-season but he is a really bad first basemen.
  12. I agree but some people seem to think that with the improved defense Gamel will be adequate in replacing Prince. I don't think he will even come close.I don't think people are saying that. What they are saying is ARam + Gonzalez + Gamel is pretty close to McGehee + Yuni + Prince.Exactly. I dont remember reading anyone saying Gamel to Fielder is anywhere near a wash. It all has to do with the idea that with how bad Casey and Yuni were last year there is a good shot even with Gamel at first our team is as good overall as last year (pending the Braun situation).
  13. I dont see anyway he starts in enough game for that option to kick in. I like the structure of the deal because if he flames out it doesnt cost the Brewers much and if he is really good and earns a starting spot he is a good value.
  14. Here is the one that talks about the two other players whose numbers were also "higher than normal" and "a little out of whack" Summarizing the different clips from Dan Patrick we get this- 2 other guys had odd results- not medical- not a masking agent- not a PED- The appeal seems focused on the testing process- Source is part of the case - who knows if that means he is part of Braun's team or no
  15. It was the same source who said that Braun has a good defense. It was in the Dan Patrick audio. Said two other Brewers had highly elevated results
  16. I wouldn't mind the Nats becoming a good team, but I hope whatever team signs Prince doesn't sniff .500. Maybe I'm being the bitter ex, but I hope he looks back in a few years and wistfully wishes he had signed with us.I actually agree, but I am fine with the Nats doing well as long as we do better.
  17. A lot more info in this one. Sounds similar to the earlier point Someone involved does say he may be found innocent and the guy actually says there is a good chance he should be. It was not a masking agent that he was caught, nor was it a PED.It is not nearly as cut and dry as people think
  18. He does not say it is likely Braun is exonerated, but does provide some insight. Here are the highlights - His source tells him dont jump to conclusions. There is a chance Braun is innocent- Not medical related- 2 other teammates who took the test where also higher than normal- Not performance enhancing Not as encouraging as the initial reports for what were said but still pretty good considering what we have been hearing. There is actually new news in this report
  19. I like this type of speculation a lot more than trying to figure out if Braun has some serious disease or an STD
  20. I dont really believe four teams are seriously in on Fielder at this point. Probably Boras trying to act like there is a bidding war. My guess it is the Nationals and Rangers but everyone knows the Rangers arent going to break the bank so Boras leaks that other teams are in on it so the Nationals bid against themselves. I could be off base but nothing from the Mariners (said to only have 2 million left this year) and the Orioles (very little discussion) make me think they are in on it.
  21. My thoughts exactly. If he gets exonerated it moved from a bad to very good off-season in my book. I like the moves we made for the most part and Braun being here all season would be great. Hard not to get my hopes up since I have been holding out hope this whole time. I am sure we will have to wait a while to find out for sure
  22. I would love it to be Washington. Sure they are still in the NL but we get a great pick and I kind of want to see the Nationals start winning.
  23. Agreed. There are so few teams who have a legitimate gripe for not getting into the tourney each year. Why expand? I know the reason it is simple - money. Funny that money is the reason they expand one college sports post-season to the point where it is getting watered down and it is the reason another sport cannot add teams for a better post-season
  24. Yep, and they want to expand the field. What a bad idea.I know it is such a terrible idea. They need to have some sort of restrictions on who makes it. I would much rather have a couple more mid-majors than a team that cant even go .500 in conference play
  25. That was actually their first loss without Wade. They were 6-0 without him before tonight. That is impressive
