  1. I'd take a loss in the NLCS to the Cubs over not making the playoffs any day of the week. I think some of you are exaggerating the deal the Cubs got simply cause we don't like the Cubs. Gallagher may very well turn into a solid middle of the rotation guy. He's only 22 and has been very good in the minor leagues. Murton could certainly help out a team at the big league level as well. It's obviously big that Harden is signed for next year at all but I'd be pretty surprised if he throws more than 200 IP the rest of this year and next combined.
  2. Gallagher has really good numbers in the PCL and is only 22 and lefty so it's not like it's a terrible deal. I'm pretty sure Beane just wanted to trade him before he got injured again. If Gallagher turns into a good pitcher and Harden continues to get bit by the injury bug, Beane will be credited again with a good deal.
  3. Or he won't get hurt and the Cubs pitching staff improves mightily. Cubs fans are probably saying the same thing about Sheet's propensity to get injured.
  4. I, too, declared we wouldn't make the playoffs when Yo went down. I'm still not as optimistic as some on here but feel alright about their chances. The wave is bad enough in a scoreless game in the 2nd inning, but I can at least tolerate it. I hate sitting in Terrace Reserved and the Bleachers for Fri/Sat night games because there's always more drunken morons than usual, and usually a few of them attempt to do the wave in key situations. The best is that you already know the demographic before it starts. It's a 21-25 year old guy, always holding up a beer while encouraging people to start the wave in a tie game in the 9th inning, spilling half his beer then laughing about it while high-fiving random people. If you're going to drink so much that you can't even pay attention to the game, why pay for the ticket? I really can't stand watching Jeff Suppan pitch. Even when he pitches pretty well, it seems like he'll always have a couple innings of 25-30 pitches at the beginning of the game. He's also incredibly boring to watch cause he rarely strikes people out. Gabe Gross and Chris Capuano were two of my three favorite Brewers but neither might play with the Brewers again.
  5. He's messed up 2-3 easy plays over his last couple games that really hurt the Brewers, that kinda stinks after his really good fielding the first month or so.
  6. I think you have the opening scene to a romantic comedy movie.
  7. Home games. Though a couple games at Philly might equal like 7 total home runs a game, that could be fun.
  8. Even when he was pitching "well" at the beginning of the season he was getting lucky. At no point really did his WHIP match up with his really low ERA (I think it was like mid 3's even with his horrid Cubs start). He's obviously much better than what he's demonstrated the last few weeks, but I don't think we can really expect him to be a guy with a 3.5 ERA after the All-Star break.
  9. Is the video of the press conference anywhere on the internet? I can't find it anywhere but maybe I'm just dumb. Nevermind, found it. Also, while I was at the Brewers website I found this piece of information: On an already exciting Monday for the Brewers, sizzling shortstop J.J. Hardy, who had six multihit games last week, received the AL Player of the Week Award.
  10. I wouldn't mind if they skipped one of Parra's starts every once in a while in favor of Bush/McClung/Suppan (whoever goes to the 'pen). That way, if/when (please God) they make the playoffs they wouldn't have to worry as much about his innings total. (edit: AOL-speak --1992)
  11. .275/.290/.420 2 HR's 4 2B's.
  12. I didn't even know Mark Redman was still in the league. In 2003 in 25 IP against the Brewers he had a 1.08 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP, that's just funny. Anyway, it would be pretty disappointing if the Brewers won fewer than 3 games in this series with the pitchers they'll be facing plus the fact the Brewers will have Sabathia/Parra/Sheets/not Jeff Suppan pitching.
  13. Stat-wise, Burrell has probably been the best offensive outfielder in the entire Major Leagues, yet might not even make the team, crazy. I realize most of the votes are based on "star power" and likability and whatnot but it'll be a joke if Burrell's not on the roster IMO. Hart's my favorite Brewer but I think I might have to split votes between him and Burrell to be honest. The AL is tough, I loved Giambi pre-signing with the Yankees/PED but definitely not a big fan now, he's probably the best on the AL list though.
  14. You're right, he sounded furious while typing his response. I felt pretty sick rooting for the Cubs this weekend, but now that the Brewers are in the lead (by .001 % points) of the wild card I'll focus on rooting against the Cubbies when they play the Cardinals http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. To be fair, there only seems to be a few guys who are gigantic homers and have no idea what they're talking about. There's plenty of intelligent/witty posters. To be honest I read it a lot for info on Cubs players who I don't know much about. I hadn't heard of guys like Hoffpaur(sp?) until I looked over there. With that being said, it's still really fun to read when the Cubs have lost a couple in a row http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. I'm sorry if it was already mentioned cause I haven't looked through the near 600 posts, but is there really any idea of who the PTBNL is? I realize the point is that we don't know now but was wondering if there's any speculation.
  16. I was more upset with Kendall than I was Hall on that play. I have no idea how Kendall could've possibly been thrown out in that situation, but that was pathetic.
  17. On one hand I feel kind of bad for him because I've done stupid stuff like that too, breaking Super Nintendo controllers, kicking my golf bag over, breaking my hand punching my brother when I was 10... On the other hand I don't at all because he's making millions of dollars to play baseball while I was just a stupid kid with a temper tantrum. Year 1 of that contract is working out well for Colorado though.
  18. And Ramirez stares at his home run that clears the fence by a few feet. I'd love to see that guy take a 100 MPH fastball in the ribs.
  19. I'm with sbrylski, I've heard of it but haven't actually heard it. I can't imagine it's worse than "Holla Back Girl" though. I saw No Doubt at the Marcus Ampitheatre when I was like 11 and then she came out with garbage like that.
  20. I always thought the Sonics were the popular team to like in the early-mid 1990s, just like the Indians in the 90s. Detlef Schrempf was definitely my favorite of that team though. Shawn Kemp is phenominal on NBA Jam.
  21. The first time all year I was rooting for the Cubs, and Zambrano was on the mound http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif. I'll root for the Cardinals over the Cubs if/when the Brewers pass up St. Louis.
  22. Vintage Dempster would also be welcome. If the Giants win tonight it will be huge cause they have Timmy pitching tomorrow in the last game so there'd be a decent shot of a SFO series win.
  23. J.J. Hardy is hitting .324/.378/.676 over the last 28 days, and his BABIP over that time is actually only .315. He obviously won't keep up this pace but it's cool to see that he doesn't have a ridiculously high BABIP while he's doing it so in actuality he hasn't been that "lucky".
  24. I'll never get why people consider previous season(s) when voting for all stars. Obviously some people do with guys like Griffey who will be starters until they retire, but that doesn't mean it's legit. Bill Schroeder keeps mentioning how Braun was ROY last year so that should help his case. Fukudome was the Central League MVP a few years ago so I'm throwing votes his way.
