The staffing situation at my workplace is bugging me. One of my coworkers only realized last week that he has over a week of vacation to use yet, by the end of December - so he's gone almost half of each of the next three weeks. Another coworker has hardly been here for the last three weeks, after her husband suffered a freak injury and currently has paralyzed legs. Obviously she can't help that, but she had offered to cover for the rest of us during the week between the holidays, and of course that is now up in the air. So I'm covering for two others most days lately, my hopes for time off between Christmas and New Year's are fading rapidly, and my afternoon/evening student just called to say she has pinkeye. I don't want to have to stay until 6:30 but I don't want her to spread pinkeye to the rest of us either. I know it could be worse - I don't have to look far for reminders - but I am tiring of covering for so many people.

Anyone planning to visit the sale on Friday? The S.O. and I have scheduled the day off and hope to be in Milwaukee by mid- to late-morning. (We could come earlier, but if I have to get up at 6:00, it's not a day off.) Scoffing at the prices for a Mike Burns jersey, a Chris Dickerson game-worn cap or those black lace stripper caps is always more fun with like-minded fans. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

There are rules governing the use/consumption of alcohol in campus buildings (here's the policy statement I found on a quick search). I know that academic departments have run into problems serving alcohol after, say, a guest lecture (not a class). The Kohl Center permits alcohol consumption in its suites (as must Camp Randall), but I'll bet there are permits involved for those spaces. When UW hockey's home ice was at the Coliseum back in the day, there was a beer garden to which many people flocked during each intermission, but at the time (pre-luxury suites), I believe that was the only sanctioned alcohol venue for any athletic department event. Rose Bowl Rejects...ehh, I remember the year that UW had a great record and was bumped down to a middlin' bowl, but that's still kind of funny.

The S.O.'s sister hasn't found anyone else to go with her tomorrow, so we probably will be there too; and if so I am definitely wearing a black winter jacket because it's my warmest jacket. At the Ohio State game I wore a (lighter) black jacket plus a Brewers cap, and got no comments at all. As a bonus, it was easier for the S.O. and I (he had a Brewers cap on too) to keep track of each other on the way out of the stadium. If you are really eager to wear red, get a red poncho to put over your winter coats. That's what the S.O.'s sister is doing because her warmest winter coat is purple. Have fun!

The 2010 sale is December 3-4. 2010 Sale Thread

I learned today that the 2010 clubhouse sale is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, December 3-4. I do not have specific hours information, but the hours for each day of the 2009 sale were 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, so I would be surprised if it were very different for 2010. Usually the Brewers put out a press release a week or so before the sale to confirm such details. Here are Brewerfan threads on the sales from 2009, 2008, and 2007. Since it's kind of a rummage sale, the selection is different every year; but there are some fairly common themes to each sale, such as: "Shirsey" tees and similar merchandise for former players. For example, Hoffman gear might be plentiful this go-round. I could get a #25 Doug Davis shirt, if I wanted to relive that part of Sharpie's career. Other dated stuff: Spring training shirts/caps with the year printed on, probably 40th anniversary-logo merchandise, etc. Weird stuff that didn't sell: Anyone remember those black lace Brewers caps? They were at the 2008 and 2009 sale. Makes you wonder what the Brewers' buyer was thinking. Among the weird things I've gotten over the years have been a Brewers pop-up hamper (like for laundry) and a Brewers tape measure. Game-used stuff: Jerseys, bats, batting helmets, caps. This category of merchandise held some pretty nice deals in like 2006; then the Brewers got more popular and game-used stuff got crazy expensive in a hurry. A couple of hundred dollars for the likes of a Batboy or coach's game-worn jersey, with player jerseys higher yet. The weirdest example I observed last year was $1500 for a Counsell jersey. Most jerseys were in the $300-$800 range. The last few years have also included locker nameplates for players high-profile and low. Unique stuff: In past years this has included such items as all-star game signage, postseason signage (I still regret missing that), locker room folding chairs, and some really dingy looking plates, mugs and bowls. I suspect the most unique stuff goes to the early arrivers. Coming from a few counties away, I've never been there for the start of a sale, but I know some Brewerfan readers have. Who knows what 2010 will bring? The Brewers' trash could be your treasure.

Actually, the Brewers just completed their 11th season with the current logo. 2000 was the first year of its use. I agree that it's weird to think about. Also - TLB is correct; not everyone who favors the ball-glove logo does so because they cling to the past.

lcbj68c, I'm glad you started this thread, because one of these days we'll have to take the TV-upgrade plunge in the hawing household (our current TV was purchased in 1997) and I would rather not wait until our current set dies, then have to choose in a hurry. To show how out of it I am when it comes to modern televisions, I found myself reading JimH5's post and saying "only 40"?" I did read somewhere in the last week that deals on TVs are expected to be best between now and Black Friday. Take that for what it's worth.
