  1. If you're interested in the Brewers' spin on the 2010 season and don't want to wait for the publication of the 2011 media guide, here's 58 pages of PDF goodness, including statistics aplenty: End of Season Notes The link was provided by John Steinmiller (blog entry).

  3. The Brewers' Facebook page just posted the following: My first thought was "oh, crap." Best wishes...again. Edit: But the information on jsonline is both more descriptive and more encouraging:
  4. One quote from Bob Melvin, in the link posted by And That, caught my eye (emphasis added by me): I know this is nitpicking, but I'm guessing Bob Melvin didn't stop by MP during the 2003 season or so. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Also nitpicking but important to me as a moderator: If Bob Melvin is selected, he'd better be good enough to overshadow the inconvenience we and all Brewers fan sites and media sources will absorb as the result of having two managerial types with the same last name. I guess we can call them Doug and Bob, since Sharpie is all but off the roster for 2011, and as long as the Brewers don't acquire a player named Bob.
  5. I'm not looking to be a pill, but could we use the rest of this thread for speculation on the next manager, instead of a referendum on Sveum's small sample of 2008?
  6. Maybe it includes a sample of Jon's DNA? Sorry, I have no idea.
  7. For ryne100 and anyone who's wondering: GameDay details from uwbadgers.com[/url] Apparently they are opening up the stadium (at 6:30 AM) because the practice field north of Camp Randall is already hosting the Sports Illustrated Nissan Heisman Tour. I'd normally be interested in the men's basketball scrimmage, but am not sure I want to go head to head with the football crowd. What a crazy day Saturday promises to be, even before 6:00 PM.
  8. So, the results of this TEX-TB NLDS series are odd indeed.
  9. Yeah. I'm open to Texas getting a chance to win a postseason series for the first time, but sad for the Rays faithful (whatever percentage of tonight's crowd that is). Although having switched to the Rangers' radio team, they don't seem quite as amped I would be if I were making this call. How odd is it for the road team to win every game in a postseason series?
  10. The Rays' radio announcers sound kind of forlorn (understandably)...more so with that Rangers' home run.
  11. Jim Powell sounds pretty excited on the Braves' radio call, in the Braves' 9th. Edit: well, not so much anymore. "It seems impossible...but it's over."
  12. I just had a bad customer service experience. In 1997 I inherited an early-20th-century windup mantel clock that had been at my grandparents' house. I had it cleaned that fall by a local clock shop. The turnaround time for that cleaning was a few months, so when the clock needed service again in August, I decided to try a different clock shop. The owner of that shop took a look, and asked when it was cleaned last. I said 1997 and he seemed almost angry with that response, like I'd committed clock abuse; not to mention skeptical that I had had it cleaned at all. He said he would give it a good cleaning and I agreed to that. I got the clock back last month, and it looked to be in better condition than before with a few parts replaced. I was satisfied...until the key (which I'd kept during cleaning, figuring that they'd have no lack of keys in the shop, and could not lose the key if I had it) stopped working in one of the two windup holes. Today I had a day off, so I brought the clock back in, with the key. The owner took a key from his pocket and was able to wind the clock. He told me to throw the key I'd had since 1997 (which had worked from 1997 to 2010, and for probably decades before that while it was at my grandparents' house) in the garbage, got another key from his office that fit and charged me $6.00 for it. He angrily said to me, "If you'd brought the key before, we could have tested it then." I replied that had I known it was necessary, I would have surely done that, to which he had no response. The clock shop staff had at least two opportunities to notify me that they needed the key. I don't know if he doesn't like dealing with women, or with anyone who's not as expert with clocks as he is (or maybe didn't like my Brewers cap) or what, but his tone was gruff at best and hostile at worst. It's unfortunate, because I prefer to support local businesses as often as possible and I would classify his work on the clock as good - but his customer service tone has made me decide to patronize some other clock shop the next time I need assistance. Now, with that off my chest, I can reflect on the silver lining that Brewerfan went a whole week between posts in the "what's bugging you" thread.
  13. I also boldly predict that the open letter will include the number 600. Or possibly the ordinal 600th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Perhaps the JS team could supply season predictions in March or April, and then could use the end-of-season grades to measure how much (or little) each player lived up to their hopes. Of course, the pre-season predictions would probably also be flawed, and it wouldn't give them a basis for comparing players called up or acquired during the season.
  15. I noticed the same thing. I assume it will be posted later today. Season ticket holders who have supplied their email address to the Brewers will also get a copy, which means the S.O. will forward his to me once he sees it. I predict at least one use of "disappointing" and maybe also a "fell short of expectations"... or even "fell well short of expectations." Because what else do you say at this point?
  16. Invader3k relayed a tweet about this issue in the "random MLB news" thread, but it might generate enough discussion to merit its own thread. The Brewers have frozen ticket prices for 2011. John and Cait blog entry The blog includes a PDF link to the 2011 pricing map. As Invader said in the other thread, it's hard to imagine their trying to pull off much of any increase, between the 2010 on-field results and the economy. Still, part of me would not have been entirely shocked to see otherwise.
  17. I have a hat similar to this one which I purchased at Progressive/Jacobs Field in Cleveland last year. However, around here I'm slightly worried that if I wear it, people will think I'm repping the Cubs. I used to have a Cubs hat, in this style, purchased at Wrigley in the 1990s. Their fanbase didn't really get to me until 2003, so I didn't mind it then, but I have since gotten rid of it. Otherwise I have maybe a dozen Brewers caps. I don't even have a Badger cap despite being affiliated with the campus since 1985.
  18. Well, their record in night games vs. Ohio State is good. The last night conference game I remember at Camp Randall was Penn State putting the hurt on Wisconsin. I'm sorry to start this tangent, which should probably be continued at lambeauleap. Still, GameDay coming here, that's pretty cool.
  19. OK, good point. I have no reason to begrudge their fans a night as fun as the Brewers' NLDS game 3 two years ago. But if PHI wins tonight, logan's observation above will definitely be a silver lining for me. Edit: I admit it, I felt empathy for the Reds fans, having been taken back to the end of NLDS game 4 as I watched them behold the end of their season.
  20. Those of you who didn't catch or DVR The Simpsons tonight will want to see it when it's rerun or on Hulu or whatever. Lisa offers to coach Bart's baseball team and takes a total sabermetric approach. Bill James and Mike Scioscia are guest voices. I don't know why they showed a baseball episode opposite the baseball playoffs, though. I guess it was to cater to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. That has been their location for past Gameday visits. I'm not looking to be a complete wet blanket, but isn't the Badgers' record awful on game days when they host Gameday?
  22. If it's wrong, I don't want to be right. This is not to say that I am actively excited for the Phillies.
  23. I know the Twins still have some time, but if I were their fans right now I'd be tempted to say "make it stop." Edit: And finally, it does. Ouch.
  24. Corey, I replied to the message you sent me. And if I may add my lone need onto this thread...the only Gameday I've missed in 5 years (wow) of the product is no. 24 from 2008.
  25. OK, despite the small sample of responses, I've begun a 2010-2011 Badger Hockey thread and will lock this one. Good times were surely had here. Edit: The new thread is here.
