  1. Drop the puck! (I'll assume limited responsibility for the Badgers' loss vs. Boston U last night by not starting the new season's thread until the next night. Sorry, Bucky.)
  2. Wow, I went to bed the earliest I have on a Friday since probably April and I missed the Braves' comeback. That'll learn me.
  3. Sweet merciful crap, that's four errors for Cincinnati in game 2 of their NLDS. The Brewers could have done that!
  4. With this thread spanning two seasons and almost 550 posts, what do you UW hockey regulars think about a new thread for the 2010-2011 season? Not saying it's necessary..
  5. I can't say I'm impressed with Cabrera's comments, but for some (no doubt crazy and mixed-up) reason I'd have guessed the "classy" approach would not involve calling him out and furthering the bad blood. Stay classy...or perhaps "get classy."
  6. I'm listening to Jim Powell's call of ATL/SF on Gameday Audio and maybe it's the difference between my computer audio and my radio, but Jim's voice sounds a little deeper than it did when he was with the Brewers.
  7. The balls/strikes calling tonight has to be a stern test of Minnesota Nice. Edit: Anti-kudos to TBS for the commercial they just showed talking up the Reds. Psst! They were just no-hit!
  8. Aw, really? Me too. That's why I love Brewerfan.net: so many like-minded fans.
  9. Moving on to Thursday's action...the Rays' bats need CPR or something. Also, look, Brewers castoff Matt Treanor is in the playoffs.
  10. By now, of course, Adrian Beltre is just asking for it.
  11. It doesn't line up with what I perceive to be Doug's m.o. to go from (officially) declining Ken's option on a Monday to having Brenly, or most anyone else, in the fold by the following Thursday. If anything, I think Doug will take his time, and I hope he will since it's probably his last chance to pick a field manager for the Brewers. Combine that with Invader3k's suggestion that Brenly himself might have planted the rumor to make him seem more in demand, and I find myself not panicking.
  12. 77, actually, which (if your future predictions follow the same pattern) would suggest good news if you guess 120 in 2011. But you knew that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Oh, then came the rest of the top of the 6th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif Time to turn on the First Postseason Magic in Target Field History.
  14. I'm surprised to see a Twins home playoff game with no hankies or other giveaway for Minnesota fans to hoist or wave. Oh, and no no-no for you tonight, CC.
  15. Halladay 1, Brian's jinxing 0. In a vacuum, that's pretty cool.
  16. I wonder how Phillies Nation feels about Brian Anderson's complete comfort level with talking out loud about how well Roy Halladay is pitching. I mean, we're used to it, but they might not be.
  17. I know it's early, but d'oh, the NL Central so far is doing its thing again, isn't it? (4-0 Phillies in the 2nd; Volquez lasts 1.2 innings)
  18. I made an IGT for division series games; we could post predictions here and in-game comments there. My wacky idea.
  19. I mentioned the Brenly rumor to the S.O. at lunch today. He said nothing but the look of disgust on his face spoke enough for me.
  20. In case y'all have something to say about the Division Series games. ALDS Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays Game 1 (at TB): Wednesday 10/6, 12:37 PM CDT - TEX 5, TB 1 Game 2 (at TB): Thursday 10/7, 1:37 PM CDT - TEX 6, TB 0 Game 3 (at TEX): Saturday, 10/9, 4:07 PM CDT - TB 6, TEX 3 Game 4 (if necessary, at TEX): Sunday, 10/10, 12:07 PM CDT - TB 5, TEX 2 Game 5 (if necessary, at TB): Tuesday, 10/12, 7:07 PM CDT - TEX 5, TB 1 (TEX advances) Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees Game 1 (at MIN): Wednesday, 10/6, 7:37 PM CDT - NYY 6, MIN 4 Game 2 (at MIN): Thursday, 10/7, 5:07 PM CDT - NYY 5, MIN 2 Game 3 (at NYY): Saturday, 10/9, 7:37 PM CDT - NYY 6, MIN 1 (NYY advances) NLDS Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies Game 1 (at PHI): Wednesday, 10/6, 4:07 PM CDT - PHI 4, CIN 0, no-hitter for Halladay Game 2 (at PHI): Friday, 10/8, 5:07 PM CDT - PHI 7, CIN 4 Game 3 (at CIN): Sunday 10/10, 7:07 PM CDT - PHI 2, CIN 0 (PHI advances) Atlanta Braves vs. San Francisco Giants Game 1 (at SF): Thursday, 10/7, 8:37 PM CDT - SF 1, ATL 0 Game 2 (at SF): Friday, 10/8, 8:37 PM CDT - ATL 5, SF 4, 11 innings Game 3 (at ATL): Sunday, 10/10, 3:37 PM CDT - SF 3, ATL 2 Game 4 (if necessary, at ATL): Monday, 10/11, 7:37 PM CDT - SF 3, ATL 2 (SF advances) I think I got all the dates and times right. I'm sure someone will let me know if it's otherwise.
  21. This Brew Beat entry makes it seem not as final, hawing said hopefully. Brenly? Ick. Maybe they're trying to rile us up before making a bland choice that, in comparison, would seem palatable, or less repulsive.
  22. "Wak-ed" makes more sense than "Wakamatsued." Plus per B-Ref, his given name is Wilbur Donald Wakamatsu, thus making "Wilbured" a possibility.
  23. I remember this mystery chucker mostly for my S.O.'s reaction of disbelief when he was signed.
  24. They were both good. I would consider the last two weeks of the Brewers' 2008 season to be one of the best fortnights of my life. The last homestand in particular was practically a dream sequence, and two years later I still marvel both at the way it unfolded and at the fact that we were able to see so many of the games in person. For me, though, NLDS 3 gets the slight edge for a few reasons: - Partisan crowd. There were some PHI fans, but not thousands like there were of CHC fans at the wild card clincher. There's ample evidence elsewhere on this forum of how the CHC fans who tend to invade Miller Park give me fits. - I arrived at the NLDS with no expectations and no nervousness, which for me is remarkable. I flat-out enjoyed the entire night. I know at least a few others here left the park that night via the left-field ramp, where the jubilant chants and whooping made for one of the best sports atmospheres I've ever been in. Conversely, although I was quite happy at the end of the wild card clincher, until Ryan hit that home run it was rather stressful, for a sporting event. - It was the Postseason. I'd wondered for more than a quarter-century what a playoff game would be like and I got to find out. Of course, your results may vary.
  25. Yeah. I see what you're saying, Invader, but between the gun possibility and Adam's not-100% certainty that it was the guy he saw, I think it might be more prudent than spineless to not confront. It would be sweet if you could use texting technology to mess up his life a little, though.
