  1. One thing that bugs me about this current hot weather spell is the number of people in my office alone who are complaining about the heat, have AC at home and choose not to use it. Wha?? I can see my students who maybe don't want to raise their utility bill a lot, but not everyone in this situation is watching every penny. Isn't weather like southern Wisconsin is seeing right now kind of the reason why air conditioning was invented?
  2. Dang, we were in row 4 of the 417 terrace box. Down and a bit to your left. We were on the aisle seats closest to 416, even. If you happened to notice a woman in a gray Hart shirt get up and abruptly walk out to the concourse just before the bases clearing double in the first...that would be me. If you happened to notice a man in a royal blue Milwaukee shirt get up and abruptly walk out to the concourse just after Soup and Kendall combined to let that easy pop foul fall...that was the S.O. It was not a good night for fan patience in the hawing household. I think I was channeling some of davego's Twins hatred.
  3. If it's of any comfort, I think U2 is OK, but I don't worship them like gods or anything.
  4. That's awesome, brucrustu. I did a silent fist pump when she answered correctly, not knowing she had an indirect Brewerfan connection. Just to keep this on what's bugging me...it bugs me to no unholy end when people fail at the Time Warner Trivia. They should be assigned a media guide or some Brewerfan access so they can become more knowledgeable for next time (if they even deserve a next time, in some cases). Also, my workplace office is dismantled. Half has been relocated and the other half (including this workstation) is moving in the next couple of days. Bugs me. I just don't like the disruption.
  5. For three hours of sitting in muggyville, I would have appreciated more decent results. At least our terrace box section had very few Twins fans, and the quartet in the neighboring box were only jerks on their way out (which was as the bottom of the 9th started, which means they didn't stay to see their boy Joe Nathan, which makes me wonder just how deep their fandom is). I will accept as a small silver lining the 0-for performance for Joe Mauer. He lost at least 12 points of his batting average. Overall, it would really help my spirits if the Brewers would stop scuffling. I think step one is to get this AL kryptonite the heck out of their lives.
  6. I'll tip my cap to everyone who contributed to the cleanup/shoreup effort since the rains last week. I don't doubt for a second the extreme disruption, but it was not evident at the "fan" level.
  7. Wow, so going through town to get to I-94 tonight paid off. Now, if only I'd known you were there, burniebrewer...not to mention, if only the Brewers hadn't justified our time sitting in the mugginess for 3 hours by sucking a little less.
  8. The ESPN link in the lead post describes Wiener as "the No. 3 official and his longtime heir apparent." So his being Fehr-esque doesn't sound implausible.
  9. Yeah, Jumpin, hope you're feeling better now. Stormy, flooding rains and now hot and humid. The dewpoint tonight in Watertown (per the NWS hourly observations) is 82. 82? That is sick and wrong. The weather station must be inches from the river.
  10. Squambaum's account doesn't surprise me, and is part of the reason why I've been keeping an eye on the usual Brewers media sources. I'd like to not get 3/4 of the way to Milwaukee tomorrow only to have to turn back. Today's JSOnline update sounds a little more promising.
  11. If CC became the Yankees' hard-luck starter - who pitches well but is denied Ws due to a lack of Yankee run support, costly Yankee errors, and/or Yankee bullpen collapses (in those games when CC doesn't persevere to the 9th) - I think that would satisfy my general desire to see the Yankees falter without having to completely hate on CC. I don't know if I need CC to be tagged with loss after loss.
  12. Of all the options listed in that JSOnline item, calling up Burns seems the least disruptive move to me, in terms of who's sufficiently stretched out and whose schedule wouldn't be whacked out by a Thursday start. Of course, it would be more disruptive for whoever would be moved to accommodate Burns.
  13. This article from McCalvy doesn't sound quite as confident. Speaking as an out of town holder of tickets for Tuesday's game, I hope they can make it happen.
  14. I personally would stop short of salivating at the thought, but I don't consider myself above a moment of schadenfreude if this becomes a problem for the Yankees.
  15. Casey puts my no-hitter fear to rest and eliminates the shutout option to boot. Huzzah! I'll miss the rest of the game for a niecey niece's birthday party...unless her parents happen to have it on for us. Don't let my absence deter you from the chat room, though.
  16. hawing's rock-bottom expectations emerge: Step 1. Get a hit today. The rest is an improvement over last time.
  17. You know, Lucky's is a leisurely walk from the hawing house (though we don't live quite as close as bani or Sam). I'm liking that suggestion. It's on Regent St. near the stadium and the intersection with Monroe St. Back in the day, it was a Brat und Brau, if that helps any older school types place it. Some street parking has been temporarily removed due to construction of a hotel directly across from Camp Randall, but on a weeknight with no stadium event, parking should still be manageable. I'm going to semi-randomly throw out Tuesday, July 7 vs. STL as a date suggestion. This gives people some chance to clear their calendar, and having so much geeky Brewers spirit in one place might help topple the class act of baseball, nay, of all athletics. Besides, Wednesdays appear to be "Team Trivia Night" (per Lucky's website events calendar) and Thursdays have live music, each of which might make it all the harder to hear ourselves taunt Baseball Jesus and his minions. I'm unavailable (due to actually attending games) on T 6/23, T 6/30, W 7/8. I should point out that none of you wants to be in the same building as I am when the Cubs are the opponent. We may be on vacation (i.e. out of town) for the Reds series immediately following the all-star break. This is all in case you want me to be there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If we'd rather get together for a road game, the only road series between now and the all-star break is the Cubs series July 2-5. There's an east coast road trip immediately following the ASB, which sounds fine to me except for the 6:00 central start times. How does this sound? There's plenty of room for adjustment.
  18. The solstice happened overnight, about 12:45 AM CDT. So we are in the first ten hours of summer, as I write this! And yeah, I could do with less humidity, but it felt worse when I left work Friday in downtown Madison. Plus, our air conditioner's in place, so I guess we're "ready."
  19. Bob Uecker has made me very hungry for a Usinger's brat with some krisp kraut and Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard.
  20. Your 2009 Milwaukee Brewers: The Washington Generals of FOX Saturday Baseball. Edit: ooh, burger run.
  21. I suppose seeing Kerry Wood fail is good for a degree of schadenfreude, but stupid Cubs.
  22. I think Melvin has been looking, but the cupboards are looking pretty bare.Open tryouts? Could the results be worse?
  23. Is it a rule now that Brewers starting pitchers have to struggle almost out of the gate? Did we miss a memo?
