  1. I finally realized this week that the more All-Star votes that are cast for Ryan Braun, the better the chance that he will be in the all-star game...in latest Busch Stadium, in front of STL fans.
  2. If anybody has an email where i can reach the folk in charge of this, i will send them an email explaining why he doesn't deserve such an honor.I think JJHardy7 may be referring to this thread from about a month ago, where Brian speculated on possible candidates for a possible "fan legends" section on Brewerfan.net. Nothing is set in stone re: whether a fan legends page will exist on this site, and/or who might be included if it comes to be. So, no need to email us about it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I agree that academics should be a college student's "first job," but you don't want to be a studying robot either. A super GPA can be outweighed by a lack of social skills. So socialize, but in enough moderation so your academic work doesn't suffer (whether in terms of what you learn/understand, GPA, or both). You have a better chance of living harmoniously with a roommate if you have similar living habits (like neatness, night-owl vs. morning person, and study habits) than if you were buddies prior to being roommates. The best roommate I had matched up with me in those kinds of habits. Also, if things aren't going quite right for you in college, don't suffer in silence. Colleges and universities have tremendous support services of all sorts - academic, emotional, medical - definitely more than existed in the 1980s. It's OK to ask for help.
  4. Now that was a fun game to watch. Beautiful weather and a largely positive result on the field. The school group next to us was elementary age and very well behaved. They said "excuse me" and "thank you" when crossing in front of us - better than a lot of the adults we see at games. They also started a "home-RUN, home-RUN, home-RUN" chant immediately before the Hall and Fielder homers, which further endeared them to us. Those of you who saw the early "Trevor Time" graphics might be pleased to know that they have been tweaked so the "v" looks less like a "b." I agree that - as much as the whole Hells Bells entrance has oomph (to put it mildly) - it could have even more oomph if they'd start the song before announcing Trevor's entrance. I think most everyone knows what the loud chiming bell means now. I was also happy to see/meet a few posters: ewizabeff and sgtcluels (he didn't see me) in the concourse, billyhallfan in our section, and brains and braun after the game in the Giants lot. The only bummer for me today is there isn't another home game for 11 days...though I'll be at the next one. Edit: I forgot to add that Bob Uecker walked right past us as he was ushered out of the press box - behind section 215. I could have reached out and given him five (we were that close), but between the many fan observations made on this site and his handler being right there, I thought better of it. He did say hi to a kid as he walked by, which made at least his dad's day.
  5. Cory P. just reported the same (Nelson) in the 10th inning show.
  6. That bit from the Marlins feed just made it on SportsCenter.
  7. Yeah, but (now that it's not storming and I can actually use the computer and catch up on this speculation) what if J.J. doesn't really have a headache? I'm wondering - and I apologize if it's been covered here already - but what other team is in need of a Hall or Hardy or other plausibly tradeable Brewer, at this point in the season?
  8. But I respectfully request first dibs on any 2008, no. 24. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Yeah, but which Brewers icon is behind Simply Lemonade? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Sorry, Jimbo. But now that the section is sold out, let's record a Brewerfan roll call for the May 25 Dew Deck experience. The S.O. and I will be sitting in section 303 with bensheeps, his wife and a non-Brewerfan couple. I'm strongly considering wearing my Branyan player t-shirt, which should signal to the rest of you that I'm a bf.netter.
  11. Nice, Robin. Real nice. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif You probably weren't quite close enough for the second one, which was hit while I composed this post!
  12. We had some last season (found it in Madison) and I really liked the combination of sweet and tart. However, in the last off-season we had to become a sugar-free household, so unfortunately we cannot be repeat customers.
  13. How long do you think before Big Wes makes a PH appearance? (rhetorical question, no need to actually answer)
  14. I'm curious about that, too. The May dates were in place by April 16, so if that pattern holds, we should see June information in the next week or so.
  15. If Wes plays on Thursday, or if his name is announced, I'm standing up for him (albeit briefly). I made that vow last September 28 - at night because I had no idea until we got home and saw the highlights that it was Wes who hit the go-ahead HR - and I'll stick to it. Given that the fanbase as a whole isn't necessarily as tuned-in as we are here, it probably wouldn't hurt if they showed Wes' 9/28 home run on the videoboard, just as a reminder. If the ribbon board has to tell us when to "wave the towel!" on towel giveaway night, why not this too?
  16. Congratulations. I assume your name for baby in the meantime will be Kiki. Note the absence of blue text.
  17. Someone went off on awesome usher Bill? Booooo. I'd be ready to eject anyone who hates on Bill. I speculated on the unfortunate timing of the light problem during Saturday's chat. On a Brewers-Cubs Saturday night, about the last thing crowd control staff need would be a delay of game. A complete blackout would indeed not have been good.
  18. Since other Brewer fans are enjoying our seats today, I hope this reduces the chance of Suppan yielding yet another leadoff dinger. That's my contribution to your good fortune, Brewers; the rest is up to you. Keep cool heads out there, and keep turning up the heat.
  19. Hi. I still collect the free Gameday programs. I am looking for two issues I don't have, and offering others for which I have extras. The issues I seek are: 2009 Gameday no. 5 - from this weekend's Cubs series. I'd like to think this won't be too difficult. (I've got a bead on 2009 no. 5 now) 2008 Gameday no. 24 - from a Reds series in September 2008. The issues for which I have extras are: 2007 No. 2 (Nieves on the cover - 2 copies) No. 3 (Bill Hall) No. 6 (Ted Simmons) No. 7 (Davey Nelson) No. 8 (Johnny Estrada) No. 9 (Claudio Vargas) No. 10 (Harvey Kuenn - 2 copies) No. 14 (Ben Oglivie) No. 17 (Paul Molitor) No. 19 (Gorman Thomas - 2 copies) No. 20 (Don Sutton) No. 24 (Damian Miller and Craig Counsell) No. 26 (Thank you Fans - 1 copy left) 2008 No. 1 (Ryan Braun) No. 2 (Jack Zduriencik) No. 3 (Metavante Club - 1 copy left) No. 4 (Dan Larrea, director of team travel - 1 copy left) No. 5 (Jason Kendall) No. 6 (Prince Fielder) No. 7 (Roger Caplinger - 2 copies) No. 8 (Mike Cameron) No. 9 (George Brett and Robin - 4 copies) No. 10 (Karl Mueller, advanced scouting - 2 copies) No. 11 (Kapler, Torres, Dillon) No. 12 (Marcus Hanel) No. 13 (Don Sutton) No. 14 (Salomon Torres) No. 15 (Scott Martens, player development - 2 copies) No. 16 (Bud Selig - 1 copy left) No. 17 (CC Sabathia - 1 copy left) No. 18 (Bob Quinn and Rick Schlesinger) No. 19 (J.J. Hardy - 1 copy left) No. 20 (Corey Hart - 1 copy left) No. 21 (Ben Sheets, Olympian) No. 22 (Manny Parra - 1 copy left) No. 23 (Juan Nieves - 2 copies) No. 25 (3 Million Fans - 1 copy left) No. 26 (Ben Sheets) 2009 (through May 3) No. 1 (Ken Macha - 2 copies) No. 2 (Brett Lawrie / Border Battle - 2 copies) No. 3 (Yovani Gallardo - 2 copies) No. 4 (Corey, Ryan, Prince, J.J. as All-Star candidates - 2 copies) Please send me a PM if you can help, either with the two programs I am seeking or the ones I no longer need. If you want some of my extra programs, I'd consider interesting small trades or at least postage costs. Thanks. Updated Sunday evening to reflect the messages I have received/responded to already. Thanks for your interest!
  20. That was one nutty game. I'm glad it's over, and went in the Brewers' favor. Edit: SeriesFinale, I'm glad you mentioned that 1999 'light delay' game at County. Some of the chatters tonight thought I was mis-remembering the 2001 Miller Park light-out. My favorite part of the 1999 light delay was when everyone started taking flash pictures of the darkness. (Of course, then I did too.)
  21. Am I paranoid if my very first thought was that a disgruntled Cubs fan messed with the lighting somehow?
  22. www.northsidebaseball.com The Cubs equivalent of bf.net.Hey, let's not drag bf.net down by using this website's name with the words "northsidebaseball.com" and "equivalent."
  23. I've been wanting to comment on this for a few days and only now have had the chance. Russ isn't the only one. I'll admit to some ambivalence about Ryan. I can understand how other teams and fans dislike him (though I'd stop short of the cursing and slurs). If he weren't a Brewer, I think he'd give me fan fits, just like any Brewer killer (or 99% of the Cubs). I think the line between confidence and cockiness can be awfully thin, and it's in a different place for every fan. Normally, Ryan's level of confidence/cockiness would turn me off, just because of the kind of person I am. But somehow it doesn't seem like just cockiness. I don't know how to explain that. Other teams' fans don't see as much media coverage of Braun as we do, so they don't have the same perspective that we have. I don't know if the Brewers have had such a combination of ability and personality in a single player before Ryan came along. It feels like he could be the guy who leads the Brewers to the "next level." It's exciting, but it also represents a fundamentally different way of thinking for me as a Brewers fan. I think that's why I'm ambivalent, but I'm working on getting used to the new era. Anyway, thanks for sharing the link, Bikeage.
  24. For those of you at Friday's game, how was the crowd? Given the opponent, I trust you know what I'm talking about.
  25. Maybe they knew A-Ram would go down? To be fair to the Cubs, yount19 (and yeah, even I can scrounge up a way to be fair to the Cubs), I think every team that has a Brewer Killer acquires them strictly to annoy us. Of course, a Cubs multiplier applies to every emotion connected to baseball.
