  1. It's probably the best day for families traveling to MP from around the state.
  2. And here I thought the Brewers might actually have stopped the madness and had just a bobble giveaway, with no special alternate version.
  3. I'm happy my fear was irrational in this case.I'd replace "irrational" with "unfounded." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'll take the split, for sure. I wish Rickie's play at the plate had gone differently (not only for Rickie but for Flash Gordon, because I would have liked to see the Brewers increase his small-sample-but-already-hefty ERA), but things worked out. This is especially good news for AmyintheSouth, who saw her first Brewers win in person today! Hope you liked the Hoffman entrance, Amy. From our loge seats, Hells Bells was not as loud as it was in the terrace Thursday night. I can't tell if this was because we were in the loge, because the roof was open this time, because the crowd was like 20,000 people bigger this time or because I knew to expect loud. I could get used to regular doses of Trevor Time, though, I'll tell you what. Before the game, there was a Major League Moment after all - no sponsor, though, and no indication of how kids can register for the opportunity for later Major League Moments. Whenever a home Sunday lineup has a backup player in it, I always feel bad for the kid who (for example) probably thought for a moment this morning, "Left field! YES!.....oh, Brad Nelson." No offense to Brad. Finally, wow on all the Ryan Braun gear. I felt almost like a sore thumb for not wearing something with BRAUN 8 on it. Though I did wear a playoffs shirt, which might never have been sold without Ryan's input.
  4. Wouldn't any cub fan worth his/her salt be saying, "OK, MLB, where's my Cardinal taunting shirt?"? The Brewers just aren't their primary rival.
  5. Finally I see a 2009 starting pitcher whose nickname doesn't rhyme with poop. Go Dave Bush! Also, I look forward to seeing/meeting some posters today. I'd suggest a roll call, but we're leaving momentarily, so I wouldn't see the results.
  6. Well, at least it went quickly; and there's still an opportunity to split the series.
  7. I just calculated the Brewers' win-loss record for every game we've attended in Miller Park. Through the end of the 2008 season, the Brewers were 109-83 when we were there - a winning percentage of .567. Not bad. Their worst record when we were in attendance was in 2003 (7-15). Their best was 2007 (16-7), followed closely by 2008 (23-12). Our record in the dreadful 2002 season was 10-13, though we still managed to see some major stinkers (like the Shawn Green four homer fest, and the 100th loss).
  8. LA BackupsLA Gridlock (though that violates the singular/plural rule in the lead post)
  9. Media hype does fuel anxiety. Ask me how I felt in the first month after 9/11/2001. (Actually, you probably don't want to know, but it changed my outlook on both national and local news.) Among other things, it has my mother wondering if it's such a good idea for me to go to Brewer games...since they're in Milwaukee. The schools' reaction is bound to be based at least partly on the fear of litigation, in case they don't respond quickly or strongly enough to a potential flu threat. I think the best course of action lies somewhere between sticking your head in the sand and assuming that nothing can happen to you, and totally freaking out and assuming you're doomed. I'm not wearing a mask to Sunday's game (I don't think...), but I brought my little pocket size hand sanitizer to Thursday's game, and probably will again on Sunday. Wash your hands often, stay the heck home if you start to feel crummy, and contact a doctor if you get to feeling really crummy.
  10. I saw a lot of 'owners' at Woodman's yesterday, but no one I saw had a burniebrewer name tag. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Actually, most of the shelves that usually contain Turkey Store ground turkey products were empty at midday yesterday. Now I'm really in the mood for a turkey brat.
  11. I'm kind of glad you said that, sgt. Now I don't feel like a fuddy-duddy for thinking the same. I will say that it was great entertainment to watch one of the ushers (who hadn't worked either of Trevor's other games) react to the newly cranked-up Trevor Time. If you sat elsewhere in the park Thursday night, what did you think?
  12. Look on the bright side, T B0NE: at least you share a name with a very good MLB player. It beats being named, say, Trent, and having only one major leaguer in history to look up to. (Nothing specific against our good friend Mr. Durrington.)
  13. Oh, it was cranked. Cranked nice. Real nice. I hope that's what Trevor was looking for, because if he still doesn't think it's loud enough, I will have to bring earplugs next time. So, Soup has now yielded a leadoff home run in three consecutive starts attended by the hawing party (dating back to the NLDS last fall). I don't know if we should come in late, or skip his starts, or what. Jeff, I realize you kept things more or less in check the rest of your outing, but having to put the cap in rally position by the bottom of the first is getting old. The Coffey Time clock (timing Todd's sprint to the mound) was not shown tonight. I hope the Brewers didn't get in logo trouble with Starbucks.
  14. Well, better that than a turkey brat recall. Now I wonder if someone (other than Peavey) bought out the turkey brats out of a belief (however erroneous) that pork brats would bring on swine flu. And Schlitz001, I hope you didn't act like that faux Italian audience in the Pizza Hut commercial who were certain that their cheesy mac with bacon was a Tuscani masterpiece.
  15. Woohoo! I was right! I only charge 2% of winnings. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It was Tuesday's game and Bill Hall came through for you, Rickie for the second contestant. As for what you do now, I have no idea. Like dadofandrew, I recall a time when winners had to call in by a deadline time, but I haven't heard reference to that in years (and, as chat room regulars will attest, I am fairly nerdly about noting the home run inning contestant, or contestants in the case of this game). If I were in your shoes, besides being very excited, I think I would contact WTMJ and ask what to expect.
  16. When ESPN showed a graphic with that information last night, the S.O. said, "You know what those two teams have in common?" then "Actually, don't look it up. I'm not going to say anything more about it." But the 1932 Yankees and 1959 White Sox do have something in common, besides the Ruffing and Wynn feats, and I'm not going to say any more about it either.
  17. Nice to see the Huber love. The Huber (now Minhas) Brewery is a few minutes' walk from my junior high school (now middle school). Insert starting-them-young joke here. For a few years (after junior high) I dated a son of the then-Huber brewmeister (not Hans Kestler, the real brewmeister). This was around the time Huber made Augsburger, then sold that brand to Stroh, who ran it into the ground. Of course, I squandered countless opportunities by not being an alcohol drinker. I'm a bit surprised that Minhas has kept Rhinelander on. Mostly I remember people talking about Rhinelander beer with scorn.
  18. Midday on a Thursday is not too bad a time to go to Woodman's West in Madison. Except someone cleaned the store out of turkey brats before I got there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  19. This thread has substantially increased the odds of my opting for a brat at the park tonight. Though some of the recipes above sound better yet.
  20. I think the Dew Deck is usually a group-only thing.
  21. This business is a few blocks from my house in Madison. Only yesterday did it start making me think of the Brewers.
  22. I'm loving the Uecker monologue on Pocket Doppler and Twittering.
  23. I didn't realize the hatred the Pirates fans had for all things Milwaukee. Yeah, it's not like it was all that long ago that PNC Park was the Brewers' "house of horrors" and the Pirates had the knack of consistently beating the Brewers. Plus, the Brewers haven't been there yet this year. I realize it would be frustrating to see your team lose to another 14 of 15 times in a season, but between their playoff history and playoff drought, I'd fully expect Pirates players and fans to celebrate wildly, had the situation been reversed last fall (and they had just won a late season, playoff-implication game in dramatic fashion). The 9/25/08 celebration wasn't about beating Pittsburgh, and obsessing over it seven months later just doesn't seem like a good use of anyone's time. I found myself kind of empathizing with the Pirates forum linked to during Monday's game, but not the forum linked to just a few posts above.
  24. Psst, Wednesday's a day game. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Cory Provus said in the Brewers' 10th inning show tonight that he's going to try to get a pre-game interview with Evan. If he said whether it would be Wednesday or later in the week, I didn't catch it.
