1. So, the "lesson" is...what? Don't show emotion when Albert wouldn't approve? If our Carlos had a history of fist pumping or pointing at the sky every time something goes his way on the mound, I'd frankly be irritated by it too. (Like I am by that other pitcher Carlos: whoo, I struck out Geoff Jenkins to end the first!) But I don't think that's been the case. I'm with Islands; Albert's comments put a dent in my perspective on him. Not classy.
2. We visit Kenosha mainly for family events, so we rarely eat at a restaurant when we're there. But I wonder if there's much in the vicinity of the Cheese Castle that isn't a chain. Having said that, there's Gerhard's, a German restaurant on 75th St. in town (so not in the immediate vicinity of the Cheese Castle, but if you follow Hwy 50 into town it becomes 75th St) that we did eat at once, which seemed fine to me. I wasn't paying that day, so I don't know how pricey it is.
3. I'm an unabashed fan of the Food Fight diners in the Madison area: Blue Plate on Atwood, Hubbard St. in Middleton. Bluephies is also nice, and not only because we can walk there from our house. Although it's a chain (but not a ubiquitous one), going to the Original Pancake House is an event for me and the S.O. Spinach omelet or (in Madison/Monona) strawberry pancakes? It doesn't really matter because they're both awesome.
4. Penney's at West Towne won't help you in a quest for a retro jersey. They have moved in their Packer/Badger stuff and there's less Brewer stuff on display. (Of course. Who would buy baseball clothing in August or September?) For JumpinMacFlash, Penney's did have quite a few navy Hardy jersey tees. I didn't case out the sizes in great detail. And for those of you scoring at home, Penney's still has one navy Geoff Jenkins shirt, XL, offered at the same price as the shirts for the guys still on the Brewers roster. Shamelessness!
5. I'm late to the party, but I feel compelled to remark on the appearance of Adam Wainwright's jersey in the early innings I got to see on television. It looked kind of baggy and disheveled on him, and the top button was unbuttoned. It was a rather unprofessional look and I wonder if he was wearing it that way on purpose to thumb his nose at the game, nay, entire cultural institution of baseball. You guys decide what goes in blue in my statement above. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
6. Full/partial season ticket holders have until September 5 to commit, either to all postseason games or one of the "mini-packs" the Brewers are offering this year. After that, I'd imagine 9/10 pack customers get their chance, and after that the lottery to distribute whatever's left.
7. At any rate, I don't think wearing the old logo means one is "celebrating" the 1982 team any more than an Astros fan wearing a throwback rainbow jersey is celebrating Nolan Ryan. I can't say I think of Gorman, Robin and of course Rob Picciolo every time I don something bearing the ball-glove logo, nor am I specifically trying to be old-school (though admittedly, as I get older, more of what I do seems to be interpreted as old-school). Visually I just prefer the ball-glove logo to the modern-day M. Player tees are an exception; with those, I prefer the modern, Cheers-style script Brewers to the retro block-ish letters. Fortunately, both shades of blue look decent on me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Getting back to the original question, though...96 wins would definitely be heady territory, not to mention kind of sad if that turned out to be good for "only" the wild card.
8. One other thing that bothers me....overly chatty cashiers...maybe I'm just a grump, but I don't think so. Ding ding ding, we have a match. The Trader Joe's in Madison is on our way home from work, so we occasionally stop there (if for no other reason, I get the knockoff oat square cereal per AmyInTheSouth's excellent suggestion). I think Trader Joe's employees must be instructed to drum up conversation with each and every customer. In theory this is not terrible, but I seem to get the employees who have to stretch extra to find something to talk about. Sample from a day last October: TJ employee: Hi! hawing: Hi. TJE (noticing ball-glove logo pin on my jacket): So...how's your...team...doing? (obviously has no idea what team that is, despite recognizing my pin as some sort of...team...logo) hawing: Well, their season ended a few weeks ago. But they did all right. TJE: Oh. If it's going to be that forced, I'd rather just exchange generic pleasantries.
9. According to this link, both West Towne and Westgate have a Wisconsin Active Sportswear. In fact, there seems to be one almost anywhere you turn around in Madison.
10. Penney's at West Towne has had jerseys, but I don't recall any in the retro style. I will be there Wednesday evening (might finally spring for a Sabathia shirt with the coupon I got in the mail), so I could check if you'd like. I'm pretty sure they don't have anything powder blue. Last season, Dunham's in Westgate had some pinstripe retro jerseys. I remember being mildly awestruck to see something like that in Madison. This was during the Brewers' hot start to the 2007 season. Also, NMF is correct about one of those State St. storefronts that usually is all Badgers/UW Greek having Brewers merchandise this year. I just walked by there last week and they just might have had something retro in the window. I know they had a Hart navy t-shirt (which of course caught my eye) and a powder blue Sabathia shirt. Thing is, I thought that place was Name of the Game. Shows how much I'm up on that stuff. For what it's worth, the ginormous Lucky building (replacing University Square) has a larger Name of the Game, on the side facing University Avenue. I haven't been close enough to see the merchandise they have, though, only to notice that that's what was moving in.
11. OK, if you'll all pardon my ignorance, what is the origin of "big boy time"?
12. Dear Brewers: You'd make my crappy work week a little easier to take if you'd play well this series. Could you help me out? Thanks, hawing

14. In a world where Guillermo Mota can successfully escape a bases-loaded, 0-out jam, I believe most anything is possible. I had to suspend my Mota-torium and tip my cap to him. I'll tip my cap to the crowd as well. An awful lot of people stayed to the end, and were "in the game" throughout. Also, today's few ill-timed attempts to start the wave were largely unsuccessful. Wouldn't it be nice if that meant fans were realizing that the wave has a time and a place? Finally - it was nice to meet the poster bobble brian, and to see bensheeps and family. Those are my shout-outs!
15. 23,478 on April 22nd is the lowest total for one game. I count 10 games under 30,000 for the year. My attendance spreadsheet shows the same "low water mark" (April 22). But it also shows 11 sub-30,000 games: April 8 (27717) - Tuesday April 10 (25023) - Thursday April 22 (23478) - Tuesday April 24 (23905) - Thursday May 12 (25757) - Monday May 13 (26465) - Tuesday May 14 (27562) - Wednesday May 27 (28872) - Tuesday June 2 (27562) - Monday June 3 (29478) - Tuesday June 4 (27359) - Wednesday The last under-40,000 attendance (and non-sellout) was on July 9 (37092). The last under-35,000 attendance was June 18 (34442). When the first Friday night game we attended (Marlins, April 25) drew 40,088, that was when I started to wonder how big an attendance year this was going to be.
16. Hmm, then I think I don't feel too bad for being out of the market for this particular promotion.
17. Jsonline says that this game is a complete sellout. no standing room only left. Between the bobblehead and CC pitching, I'm not surprised. Dear Brewers: Today is my annual bring-the-nephew game. Please give him a better show than you did last year (when Coco blew the 5 run lead to the Phillies). Note that it may not take much for you to improve on the 9th inning experience we had that time. Thanks! Love you lots! hawing
18. You mean like....back in 2007? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Though technically I guess that was a "count up." http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0bQn0I94QR8Ut/610x.jpg Anyway, I'll contribute to win #75.
19. jwill535 + rickey24's seats = good stuff for the Brewers. Hope you had fun.
20. did doumit get hurt? seemed like an odd move to swap him out down only one run heading into this inning Bob and Jim reported that Doumit left the game with flu-like symptoms.
21. I'd be content, or more content, if ushers would make an effort to discourage people from moving around in the middle of an at-bat. I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but I keep being surprised by the utter obliviousness of people.
22. Oh no! The cubs' PECOTA odds might plummet to like 99.29898 percent instead of the current 99.37474.
23. Before lunch today, I noticed a little thing wrong with one of our security doors. It seems like I notice stuff like this all the time, and no one else here does. Is it really possible that I'm the only employee at my workplace with an eye for minutiae?
