  1. Welcome home, Milwaukee Brewers. Welcome home. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. That might make me feel bad for Cardinal Nation, but I remember 1982 too well; and even this doesn't equal that. I can think of only two reasons for any empty seats to be acceptable at Friday's game when the Brewers take the field: 1. Fans are still entering MP because the crowd is so large. 2. Every fan is contributing to the standing ovation the Brewers have richly earned (thus their seats are technically empty).
  3. The Penney's at West Towne in Madison has a full rack of Sabathia t-shirts. Otherwise it's the same stuff they've had for a year and a half, minus (finally) the Jenkins shirts. The Kohl's at West Towne had All-Star shirts, including two Hart shirts. Now they have one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh124/adamsmoot/helms.jpg Maybe, for once, Big Wes could help the Brewers out.
  5. Italics added by me. It would have been better had Prince imagined CC as a non-meat product, but this article is otherwise beautiful.
  6. Brian, I thought about that exact picture of Sal, but it was too creepy for me. http://www.mybaseballcardcollection.com/d/1726-2/1989+Topps+Tiffany+Gary+Sheffield+%23343_001.JPG
  7. Even after several games, I still can't get over not having to worry about a Brewer starting pitcher's pitch count. I'm just happily struck by that.
  8. 1. Like Jimbo and Patrick425, I was 16 in 1982. Like Backupcatchers, 1982 was the first year I followed baseball and the Brewers, so while I was excited by the Brewers' success, I wasn't yet familiar enough with 'the game' to fully appreciate the team's overall strength in the league. Living "outstate" meant I didn't get quite the chance to eat/sleep/breathe Brewers like some in Milwaukee might have, nor to share the excitement as wildly (Monroe, where my family lived at the time, was pretty much a football town). I didn't attend my first game until September 1983, so I developed my Brewers interest without having ever set foot in County Stadium - and, as others mentioned, without regularly seeing the players on TV. Obviously I was glad the Brewers made the playoffs (I'd write about game results in a diary I kept at the time), but I remember clearly - and now marvel at - how easily I accepted their Game 7 loss. I saw footage of the welcome-home parade and rally on the news and literally, naively thought to myself, "well, they'll win it in 1983." I was absolutely convinced of that. There wasn't Brewers merchandise for sale in Monroe (though I did get a McDonald's commemorative placemat); I had no means to go to Milwaukee and get any postseason swag, and consequently, I feel like I under-appreciated the 1982 season. There is no way I'd be so sanguine about the Brewers just missing out anymore. If they reach a WS game 7 and lose, I'll be bawling. Of course, if they reach a WS game 7 and win, I will also be bawling. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif 2. I consider myself a hopeful fan, which I think is different from being optimistic, and I strive to not make too many assumptions (either positive or negative). 3. I'm not really a football fan, and only the most casual of followers, so I don't pay that sport much attention at any time of year. 4. I feel bad for "Packer Nation" and Favre followers, since he and the Packers have turned his retirement/unretirement into an unpleasant circus that is bound to tarnish Favre's legacy with at least some of his fanbase; but since my interest was casual to begin with, it's not affecting me - apart from when the local sports segments in Madison news start off with Favre issues and I impatiently wait to see what they're going to say about the Brewers. (Note I didn't say "impatiently wait for Brewers news." I get Brewers news from this website.) Hope that helps.
  9. 6-1 roadtrip at worst? I'm a believer. I couldn't leave (them) if I tried.
  10. A nice 10-run outburst from the Brewers. You've got to be specific with the baseball gods, splitter.
  11. Seriously, the Madison Kohl's stores are up to date? I may have to check this out. I have a haircut at Penney's Thursday night and will probably check to see if their display is any less shameful (they were seriously selling Jenkins shirts in April, and otherwise hadn't extended beyond Sheets-Fielder-Hardy). But now I might also swing by Kohl's.
  12. DougJones43, let me take a moment to commend your avatar. It sums up nicely my feelings whenever Guillermo is warming up.
  13. I can't help you with the Cobs thing, but I will contribute to the Diamondbacks' mojo for tonight: http://www.goodexperience.com/broken/i/03/10/sharpie.s.jpg Get 'em, Doug!
  14. Well, that being (I assume) the last home game of the season, I'd consider going to enjoy the band tribute to seniors. Also, after years of acquiring gear for April games at County Stadium, I have enough cold weather gear to handle an occasional cold weather game. One of my favorite games attended as a student was the last home game vs. Michigan State in 1985. It snowed steadily and I enjoyed watching the snow fall across campus from near the top of the student section (obviously well before there were luxury boxes). It was possibly the only game I attended where I didn't have to worry about something being thrown at me.
  15. Sharpie did just fine vs. the Cubs in the NLDS last year.
  16. Sadly, I can identify with this all too well (though as a pedestrian). Our first house was 10 blocks from our workplaces, so we walked to work and back every day for 12 years. I can't count the number of near misses we experienced at the Park-Regent intersection (most of you who have lived in Madison will know that spot). In addition to the right-turn-on-red drivers who only look for oncoming vehicle traffic, we regularly had to dodge drivers who blew through the intersection making a left turn after the left turn arrow disappeared, not once checking for pedestrians. It was extra awesome when they saw us, but rather than bother to slow down, sped up and swerved into the bus lane. And we always waited until we had a walk light to move off the curb. The worst, in my mind, was the day I was nearly cut off by a city of Madison vehicle - not an emergency vehicle, mind you - and yelled at by the driver for getting in her way (while I was in the crosswalk with a walk signal). I noted the vehicle number and got a parks department supervisor to acknowledge that both her driving and her behavior were bad, which was a slight consolation.
  17. My "one game at a time" mindset is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.
  18. They might have come close to selling out this particular upcoming homestand anyway, but yeah, feverish. Imagine the ovation they should get when they take the field Friday night. Robin Yount should tweak his product line to add blue raspberry Robinade. It might look like my avatar. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I can see it now - after Cecil Cooper accepts the 2008 World Series trophy at the Texas Juice Box, he'll tell the media the real motivator for the Astros: this thread on a Brewers fan site that he totally printed out and posted on their bulletin board. It lit a fire under each and every one of them. Really, though, the only dream that's being crushed tonight is the Pirates' dream of being the only 6th place team in the MLB. Someone should archive the various titles given this thread to date.
  20. I think Geoff stands a decent chance of landing a Brewers Walk of Fame spot, perhaps a better chance than other wearers of #5.
  21. What if the Brewers' recent acquisitions really do result in everyone else picking up their game? Wow.
  22. And we've got tickets! Let the Randy Wolf-as-'Stro era begin!
  23. BSCR's private message notwithstanding, I heard on the radio recently that tickets were still available (from the UW itself) for the Badgers' no-doubt-epic matchup with Cal Poly on November 22. Just in case every other football option falls through for you...
