  1. Weirdos, I'm looking forward to hearing tales of your Monday game experience!
  2. You are correct that UW-Madison is not the be-all and end-all for everyone. I'm thinking that RyDogg was taking T BONE's favorable impression of Madison into account when he wrote the post above. If a prospective student really liked Madison upon visiting it, and later got accepted, it might be a no-brainer to go.
  3. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since that horrible 9th-inning meltdown featuring Guillermo Mota, and I still don't want to ride the #58 bus in Madison.
  4. According to this site, "Bamboo is considered an eco-friendly material, since the renewable grass can grow as fast as a foot a day."
  5. The Brewerfan.net Trading Post Forum exists to allow members to seek or offer items for either trade or sale. Please note the following: This forum is visible for reading by logged-in Brewerfan members only. Access to post in this forum is granted after one month of board membership. Brewerfan.net takes no fee for trades or sales made on this forum, and does not provide any statement about the quality, authenticity, or reliability of items offered or transactions made here. Brewerfan.net reserves the right to ban or otherwise discipline any member who conducts business in an intentionally misleading way - for example, selling gear that is billed as 'authentic' but is in fact a low-quality knockoff, or failing to deliver (or pay for) promised merchandise at all. Do not offer game tickets for more than face value. We do not consider this forum to be a storefront for members to make large profits off other members. (Processing fees that are part of the overall cost of tickets may be included in the asking price for tickets.) Collectible items vary in relative value, but please keep your asking prices reasonable. If you question the value of an offer, contact the offering party via private message. Please honor any conditions placed on a transaction by the offering party. For example, if a member offers free game tickets with the request that they not be resold, don't accept the tickets and then resell them. Television and radio broadcasts cannot legally be distributed without the expressed written consent of their originators, so we cannot allow them to be sold, traded, or distributed here. Posts that ask about copies of such broadcasts put Brewerfan.net at risk of cease-and-desist action by MLB or other copyright owners - so don't even bring up the topic. If you start a Trading Post thread, make your thread title clear. Don't post something generic like "Anybody got extras?" when you could say, "Seeking a blue Gantner bobblehead." If you have a long list of items to sell or trade, then a title like "My Bobblehead Trade List" is OK. Do not post or publicly distribute another person's non-Yuku contact information. Please keep this information reserved for private messages. Please don't bump threads in this forum, unless it's to add new information. If your item drew no interest, you may want to consider another source to promote it. Violations of Trading Post rules are subject to the general disciplinary system of the Brewerfan.net Fan Forum (see our Rules of Conduct). Thank you for your compliance, and enjoy the forum!
  6. Not quite so, NMF! If you are thinking of the Maid-Rite in one of the strip malls on Odana Road, it's still there - just under a different name, Nifty 50s. Corporate Maid-Rite notified them a few years ago that the corporate menu was going to expand (to include stuff like salads) and - I believe (not sure) - alter the Maid-Rite recipe a bit. The Madison owners decided to part ways with corporate. So it's still there, with the generic name and different names for the "rite" sandwiches - otherwise the same menu, same malts/ice cream options, same 50s decor, same old school candy offerings, same free jukebox. We ate there just Friday evening. They're still closed Sundays, though, so I apologize if this post makes you want to head right over.
  7. A lot of people there cheering for him tonight with beautiful brand new Sabathia jerseys. I bet he had a ton of friends and family there. During the TV broadcast they reported that CC bought 90 tickets for friends and family, adding something like "as the new guy on the team, he didn't feel right just asking for 90."
  8. Yeah, it was me. How'd you guess? The Brewer jersey do it for you or what? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Well, Brewers gear worn outside the greater Milwaukee area always catches my eye. You had the red folder that gets handed out to Prospective Student Visitors. And I remembered that you said you were visiting Madison today, so I knew there was a chance it was you. Also, some of us who have been part of the campus community long enough can spot prospective student visitors at a glance, red folder or no. People making the "campus visit" just have this look about them. No offense; it happens to most everyone. Whatever school you do attend, once you're there, you'll be able to spot newbies too. For what it's worth, during high school I was quite wary of going to a big school, to the point where I started at a very small private college (about 800 students, same as my total high school enrollment). By the end of the first semester, I felt like I had seen all that campus had to offer, and after the first year I transferred to Madison, where I immediately felt at home. The big pond is not without drawbacks, but I liked having the choice of blending in when I wanted to. It's not impossible to stand out if you want to, either. The "urbanness" didn't bother me, though the 1980s were a different time. Trouble is not likely to find you if you act with common sense. Anyway, if in your excitement to be in the Rathskeller you noticed an early 40s woman with a ball and glove cap, that was me.
  9. I enjoyed Trenni's brief interview with Margie Sabathia, CC's mom. She sounded pretty down to earth for giving birth to and raising a super-stud pitcher worshipped as a god by Wisconsinites. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Despite my endorsement of TB 417 above, I have to add my props to the 217 usher, Bill. He's really great. He has a presence that is both friendly and very professional - a good combination anywhere, but maybe especially in a section with alcohol restrictions. We just began regularly sitting in 217 this year, and literally by mid-April it was apparent that this guy stood out among ushers.

  12. Did you happen to be eating at Memorial Union around 1:00 with a Ryan Braun jersey t-shirt on? If so, sorry I didn't wave. I haven't yet overcome the fear of asking if someone's a poster and getting a blank stare.
  13. I could swear that I recently saw a "Coming Soon" sign for a CVS in the Madison area. I cannot remember where. I do remember thinking "huh, they're going to try this market, with all the Walgreens stores already?" I could be wrong about this - although it would be unusual for me to recall that much detail, had I dreamt it. To attempt to stay on topic, we've been to two Sonics, one in Lawrence KS and one in Phoenix. The Lawrence location was annoying because they charged us more for an item than was printed on the menu and then said they weren't responsible for menu errors.
  14. The terrace level family section (417) is very convenient to restrooms (including a family restroom for parents who don't want to take an opposite-sex child to "the other" bathroom) and the guest relations booth. Leave that section, turn to your right (toward home) and it's not far to concessions, a smaller and rarely crowded fan zone store with some kid merchandise, and the kid recreation area (Bernie's Playhouse?). There's also a kid concession stand adjacent to the Playhouse. From 417 you can see the whole field except the far right-field corner. If the roof is open, you can see toward downtown too, from that angle. The chance of a ball entering the section is almost zero. Terrace reserved sometimes gets a little rowdy, but the terrace box sections are only 7-10 rows, and the ushers are generally right there. If terrace box 417 seats are still available that day ($19), I'd fully recommend them. We have had season tickets there since 2002 and have been pleased with them.

  16. Five Guys has a Madison location on State Street. I haven't tried it (not being a burger fanatic) but keep hearing good things about it.
  17. I only caught part of that story myself; but here's a Channel 3000 item about it. Next weekend (July 25-27), when the Brewers host Houston and the Twins are at Cleveland, both teams' pre-and post-game coverage will be live from the Dells: Friday 7/25 at the Riverwalk, and Saturday-Sunday 7/26-27 at Noah's Ark. So it's not just FSN Wisconsin, but also FSN North.
  18. That makes at least three posters (myself included) who were at the game with the "lights out delay." I don't remember a giveaway that night, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. When the lights went out, the first thought I had was whether it was somehow related to the stadium accident. On the day of the accident, as we watched open-mouthed the live coverage that even the Madison local news carried, I remember thinking about the "Bringing Down The House" motto they'd been using for the 1999 season, and figuring that phrase had reached the end of its useful life. Happy retirement to Nomo, I guess.
  19. My brother has taught his daughter (who turns 4 one month from today) to sing along with him the Simpsons song, "Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?" Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart? Here comes the tricky part Oh, won't you rhyme with me? Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart? Their floors are stick-E-Mart They made Dad sick-E-Mart Let's hurl a brick-E-Mart The Kwik-E-Mart is real...D'oh! Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart? Not me! Then my brother sings the sad reprise part (Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart?) and my niece sings back "I doooooo!" It's pretty cute.
  20. Over the last decade, freshmen applications at UW-Madison have just skyrocketed, to the point where getting accepted is almost like winning the lottery. OK, the odds are better than the lottery, but they're getting upwards of 25,000 applications for a freshman class of not more than 5700. I think it's more sheer volume of applicants getting in a prospective "good" student's way than much else. Here is a link to a PDF file helpfully called "UW Freshman Expectations." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif Man, I'm glad I got in and out in the 1980s, and I thought I rocked a pretty solid grade point (3.9) back in the day.
  21. Hey, I put a disclaimer in the lead post. Reading others' posts in this thread does incur a risk.
  22. I would be surprised to find that Mark A does his own driving, at least in a traffic jam en route to MP. Thus his driver probably eventually reached the special Attanasio parking spot.
  23. If you're the type who looks at lyrics and has them stuck in your head for a while, you may want to pass on this thread. However, if you have lyrics stuck in your head and believe that posting them here will help get them off your mind...we're here for you. I'll start with a Duran Duran classic. The reflex is an only child, he's waiting by the park The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark And watching over lucky clover. Isn't that bizarre? Every little thing the reflex does Leaves you answered with a question mark.
  24. I could stand to go back to the alternating-years pattern. I was telling the S.O. last night (after the first two errors) that if the Brewers make the WS and fall short because of the AL home field advantage, I'll send Dan Uggla a bill. If the Cubs get to the WS and fall short for the same reason, I'll send him a check. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
