The last time we replaced a refrigerator, Sears took away the old one. So you should at least have that going for you, if you opt for Sears. If it's important to you, ask. I've never lived in a place with a dishwashing machine (the S.O. and I are dishwashers), so I can't help you otherwise.

Yehhh, Edison Volquez looks like the kind of guy that would find Carlos Zambrano as a role model. Go away, both of you. You know, both the S.O. and I were thinking along those lines while watching Volquez's body language on the mound the other night.

7/13/08 Reds (Bailey) at Brewers (Sabathia): 1:05 CDT
hawing replied to BrewCrewForever's topic in Archived Game Threads
I'm struck by the difference in tone between the posts from people who were at the game and those who were not. I'll admit, Friday's game was a punch to the gut for me: battle to take the lead and then promptly proceed to blow it, topped off with a save by Fran$i$co. My Brewers spirit took a hit and it wasn't restored by even midway through today's game. I was impressed by the Sabathia home run, but not fully optimistic that the Brewers could generate enough additional offense to make a difference. CC just got stronger as the game went on. His pitch count stayed pleasantly reasonable for much longer than I've become used to with Brewers starters. His escape in the 8th gave me some more hope (fortunately, he wasn't distracted by the highly ill-timed wave), and his 9th inning was truly exciting. Fans stood as he returned to the field. The "Let's go, CC" chant rang out. (This did make me wonder why there can't be, say, a Let's Go Manny or Let's Go Dave Bush chant. Do they deserve fan support less?) CC finished the top of the 9th with another punchout, gave his fistpump and left to the half-inning-long standing ovation. All I could think was, "how can this not motivate the Brewers to get him the win?" Then over the sound system came "I'm a Believer" (the Smash Mouth version that appears in Shrek). People around me were singing "I'm! a believer! I'm! a believer!" Honestly, I got a little verklempt. So the game ended well. CC got the thoroughly deserved win. Cordero didn't get a blown save or loss (and he did enter with the odds against him), but at least he was on the mound when the Brewers won. The level of excitement was 1980s-style, as Jimbo suggested earlier. I tend not to subscribe to the notion that one player can make that much of a difference, but watching CC today makes me wonder if that in fact can happen, at least once in a while. If the excitement and confidence that currently surround CC catch on (and stick) with the rest of the team, I think we'll have a special few months ahead of us. Oh, and I'm now motivated to bring back a kool-aid avatar. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif -
I'll give Big Seth some credit for keeping the Brewers in the game after that 3-spot in the 1st tonight. I admit I wouldn't have been 100% surprised (upon hearing the final score) to find that most or all of the eight runs had been charged to McClung.

Asking the GF's parents for Permission - Please help
hawing replied to brwrsfan's topic in Off-Topic Forum
On a side note, the idea of her parents knowing before her is bothersome to me. Then it's probably for the best that this involved brwrsfan's in-laws (to be), and not yours. Making the parents feel included (and/or speaking to them before speaking to the would-be fiancee) is appropriate for some families and unnecessary for others. It sounds like brwrsfan's approach is working for him, which for this thread seems like the most important outcome. Like others who posted earlier in this thread, I look forward to at least as happy an update when brwrsfan pops the question to his GF. -
BREWERFAN.NET Fan Forum Rules of Conduct Like the constitution, only not as cool, the Brewerfan.net Fan Forum Rules of Conduct is a living document, where we add and adjust content as needed. This subforum includes a Usability FAQ (to answer questions about how our host, Yuku, works) and is also the home of this rules document. A chat room is available, for Brewerfan members only. It is hidden from view unless you're logged in. Some subforums have additional rules (besides those in this document) specific to the subforum. They are posted at or near the top of the subforum thread list. What kind of discussion is allowed? Discussion about baseball, and especially about the Milwaukee Brewers, is encouraged. In all subforums, our goal is to maintain a civil and mature posting environment, where the discussion is thoughtful, substantive, and respectful. What kind of discussion is not allowed? Please keep politics, religion, and sex out of the forum. Fairly or not, these topics have regularly resulted in threads going out of control. Also, please avoid contentious topics such as racial and ethnic issues. If you're into discussing these topics, we recommend the separate forum Brewerfan Political Scene. Condescending talk toward other posters (including but not limited to name-calling, baiting and flaming) is not allowed. Other Brewers-related message boards are more tolerant of "talking smack" to other users, and we suggest you go there if that's what you're about. Following the Brewers means accepting their bad days as well as their good ones. If you want a place to blow off steam by declaring players or team staff worthless when the Brewers play poorly, this is not the forum for you. Other sports message boards fill that niche better than Brewerfan does. This does not mean we allow only praise of the Brewers; but constructive criticism that remains civil and mature contributes more to the overall discussion than saying "TurnbLow SUX!!!11!!" or "I hate this team," or declaring a game "over" in the 3rd inning. Please refrain from impulsive posts expressing knee-jerk frustration in the form of vents, rants and complaints. If you find that most of your posts take this path, you may want to switch to a forum that's more your style than Brewerfan is. "Official" threads (like Official Opening Day Thread) are reserved for topics started by a Brewerfan staff member or moderator. If you are craving an "official" thread on a particular topic, please ask a staff member or moderator to start one, instead of starting it yourself. Keep basic play-by-play action out of the In-Game Threads. It's fine to describe the details of a particular play for posters who lack video, but in an age of online real-time game updates, play-by-play one-liners (e.g. "Kapellusch with a single, Brewers up 2-1") are unnecessary. Avoid repetition. It doesn't take long for an initially interesting topic to turn into a dead-horse beating session, or for you to become known on the forum as "that guy who is obsessed with Player/Issue X." This includes posting the same basic thought in multiple threads or repeatedly within a single thread. It can also include authoring a significant percentage of the posts within a given thread. Site staff will lock or merge threads that they believe duplicate an existing discussion. If you want to respond to multiple messages in a thread, try to do it with a single post, rather than a bunch of consecutive posts. The latter gives the impression you haven't read the earlier posts. Go light on 'one-liner' posts. Sometimes a one-line post is appropriate, but a constant stream of snarky one-liners detracts from the forum's quality. For example, messages that say nothing beyond "I agree," "Ditto," etc., add nothing to a discussion and are candidates to be hidden by moderators. Don't chime in on every thread just because you can; instead, pick your spots for posting, and add something back into the site. Less can be more. Please give members who post "inside info" the benefit of the doubt. If we continually attack the credibility of those who offer that information, chances are we will stop receiving it. Expressing skepticism about the information in a civil manner is fine; outwardly challenging the member isn't. If you are an "insider" providing information, please don't use the topic as an attention grab. Followup posts should be for the purpose of answering questions and providing additional information. If someone questions your credibility, blow it off. Attempts to defend yourself don't help your cause. If you're trying to sell something, use the Trading Post forum. If it's obvious that you're a spammer, broadcasting your advertisement on multiple forums, you will be immediately banned. Copies of copyrighted material (including television and radio broadcasts) cannot legally be distributed without the expressed written consent of their originators, so we cannot allow them to be sold, traded, or distributed here. Posts that ask about unauthorized copies of such material put Brewerfan.net at risk of cease-and-desist action by MLB or other copyright owners - so don't even bring up the topic. Do not post entire articles or re-post subscriber-only material from sites like Baseball America or ESPN Insider. If you quote material from elsewhere on the internet, cite your source with a link. Rickrolling anywhere outside of the Off-Topic forum will be deemed as trolling. Even in Off-Topic, Rickrolling should be a rare occurrence. What kind of language is not allowed? Language use is critical in any online forum, and in this regard Brewerfan.net aims to be more genteel than other sites. Most major cuss-words are filtered out, with a character string such as @#%$. Also filtered out are some words which are not strictly 'cuss' words, but are widely recognized as derogatory. It is every member's responsibility to preview posts before sending, and to edit language that is filtered out in the preview screen. There are many ways to make a point without profane language. If it's something you wouldn't say around your neighbor's 9-year-old, don't say it here. Do not use acronyms, abbreviations or creative spelling to avoid the cuss filter. This includes replacing letters in cuss words with characters or spaces. As an example, the use of "BS" is not allowed when intended to stand for a cuss word ("what a load of BS"), but is allowed when intended to stand for non-cusses (Ben Sheets, blown save, bachelor of science, etc.). Please note that our language policy also applies to the chat room. Other language notes: Pay attention to spelling and grammar. We're not your English teacher and we aren't grading you, but language errors can make your post incoherent to others, which does not advance the conversation. We want to be able to tell what you're saying. Don't use excessive punctuation in your thread titles and posts, such as '???' or '!!!'; and don't use all capital letters either. Both make it look like you are YELLING. Thread titles that are ambiguous ("Uecker") or that are essentially 'teasers' are annoying. If you start a topic, make your subject line clear and to the point, so readers don't overlook it, or waste time on a topic that doesn't interest them. Use paragraph breaks regularly in long posts. Starting a new paragraph every five lines or so (hit enter twice to start anew) makes your post easier to read. Use emoticons [http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif] sparingly, so they don't lose their meaning. Don't use "AOL-speak," such as U for "you" or 2 for "to." It smacks of pre-teen and makes your posts harder to take seriously. Also, our membership includes a wide range of age groups, and frankly, not everyone will know what you're saying if your posts read like a text message. Quoting multi-paragraph blocks of a message previously posted in a thread is not reader-friendly. Neither is quoting a string of a multiple nested replies. Please see "Quoting messages: please be brief" for more detail. Many posters use blue text to indicate sarcasm in a post. While this is not an official bf.net rule, we include it here as a heads-up and potentially useful suggestion. Can I mention my blog or website here? Brewerfan is glad to hear about your blog or website, under these parameters: Feel free to advertise your blog or website in your signature or Yuku profile, but keep it tasteful. If you have a blog entry or website content that is relevant to an existing topic, feel free to post a link. However, please include a synopsis of your content and indicate its relevance to the discussion. An occasional new thread regarding your blog or website is fine. Repeated new threads will be deemed as spamming. What am I allowed to have in my signature? Ideally, signatures should not be longer than your posts, nor should they distract from the content of your post. A good rule of thumb is that if your signature is longer than 3 lines (including paragraph breaks), it may be distracting. Please do not include images or videos in your signature; and note that site rules for language, politics, religion and sex also apply to signatures. For instructions on adding or editing a signature, visit the Usability FAQ. What images am I allowed to include in posts or put in an avatar? Yuku allows you to include images in a post, and to set up an avatar (a small image that appears by your screen name in posts). For instructions on adding images or setting up an avatar, visit the Usability FAQ. Please keep images and flash videos tasteful, and note that site rules about keeping politics, religion, and sex out of the forum apply. If an image or video is not suitable for work or family viewing, post the link with a warning instead of the image/video itself. If your image is large, post a link instead of the image itself, or reduce the size before you post it, so that readers don't have to scroll sideways to see it or other posts on the page. How will I know if I've "crossed the line"? Moderators or site staff will contact you if you have done something that is considered a violation of site rules. We prefer to contact you privately whenever possible - either by a private message in your Yuku inbox, or an instant message in the chat room. Serious violations count as "strikes" against violators, and after three strikes, a member will be banned from participating in the forum. When contacting you about a violation, we will indicate whether the violation is considered a strike against you, or a warning. Site staff reserve the right to immediately ban posters when circumstances warrant. Conduct that results in an immediate ban includes, but is not limited to: Racist or prejudicial comments Harassment of other posters (in a forum, chat room, or via private message) Trolling Spamming Private messages appear in your Yuku inbox. You can tell if you have a new message by looking at the Navigation box in the upper right corner of any Yuku screen (a light blue box means new mail). Please keep your inbox set to allow private messages from "Everybody." If you don't respond to a private message from staff, we may have to post a warning in public, or ban you temporarily, to get your attention. What's with all the rules? The Brewerfan.net audience includes players, players' relatives, members of the media and employees throughout the Brewers' organization. These groups choose to use our forum in part because of the atmosphere we provide. Brewerfan has more and stricter rules than most sports message boards; this is the choice of site ownership and staff. The Internet has plenty of message boards that tolerate swearing, serial griping, personal attacks, trolling, etc. Brewerfan occupies a different niche, and it is not for everybody. If we're too restrictive or "square" for you, it's probably best for all involved if you post elsewhere. We welcome all Brewers and baseball fans who respect and agree to follow the rules as listed above. We are also open to suggestions for improvement to the forum atmosphere, and other facets of the website. To contact staff, visit the About Us page, or send a Yuku private message. Thanks for your interest, attention and understanding.

7/12/08 Reds (Volquez) at Brewers (McClung): 6:05 CDT
hawing replied to wibadgers23's topic in Archived Game Threads
Here's hoping that Dave Bush's good outing on Thursday motivates Big Seth to step up as well. I have to admit to being more skeptical about the Brewers' ability to get to Volquez. The "better" pitchers they have gotten to this year have generally been guys they've faced before. I don't recall their facing Volquez earlier in the season. Still, there's a reason they play the games, and I'd be happy to have my skepticism refuted tonight. And (in my best Bob Betts/Robb Edwards tone) please - field carefully tonight. Thank you! -

This is the third game in a row I'm attending. Yay vacation! Go Manny and Brewer bats! No Mota! -
If only you could get the staff to realize the effect your son has on Brewers (thinking back to his Major League Moment day and the tear Ryan went on after a simple high five).
-
This probably sounds harsh, but if anyone gets those Triple Play Trivia questions wrong they likely know very little about baseball. One time the choices were Counsell, Rivera, and I want to say Kapler (someone who was obviously not hispanic), and the first question goes "This player was born in Puerto Rico." Seriously? At least they know very little about Brewers players. I'm sure if I were on camera with a mic in my face, it would be harder for me to put thoughts together, but wow, it's not like they build some major tossups into the questions. I guess this is when we should remind ourselves that those fans are helping pay for CC too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Ryleigh Hart is one cutie pie, and I hope she's gotten over the shock of that celebration by now. I'm delighted that Corey finished on top (even if what it really boils down to is the capacity of Brewers fans to mouse click or text like crazy). I'd call him far and away the most consistently solid player on the roster to date this year. I hope his kids find as much to enjoy in New York as they would have in the Dells.

Late Wednesday night, I had a devil of a time making one post in that night's IGT. It would appear, then not appear, then appear again after I'd retried. That was some type of Yuku weirdness whose source we haven't figured out. Perhaps something similar happened to you.
-
Nice, Jason. So some Brew Crew people did their wacky dances in front of your sweet ride? Your post reminds me of the last couple of Triple Play Trivia questions I've seen, which contestants have completely blown. The first one was Sunday, I think. The choices were Gagne and two other players. The first question was something like "Played on the Canadian national team." That and the other two clues weren't enough for the contestant. Today the choices were Gagne, Riske and Shouse. One of the questions cited a pitching stat from this player's recent stint with the Royals. Dude says, "It's gotta be Gagne!" Buzzer sounds. We boo. They should be asking me these questions! I get them right every time, usually after just one clue.

7/10/08 Rockies (JDLR) at Brewers (Bush), 1:05 PM CT
hawing replied to crewcrazy's topic in Archived Game Threads
This was a flat-out terrific day to be at the ballpark. Maybe not so much early on (the Brewers' early struggles at the plate reminded me of a prior (batman's?) nickname for JDLR, "King of Unhittable Filth"), but things certainly turned around nicely. Tip of the cap to Dave Bush for a career day on the mound. And in case that weren't enough, as we got back to the car in the (Giants) parking lot, I got the best two word phone message : "he's in!" (Corey). What a topper to the day. Brewers, Brewers, keep turning up the heat. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif -
With apologies for chiming in somewhat late, I'd estimate that the Brewers at least lose listeners. Last year we determined that there some overlap between Brewers Radio Network affiliates and Packers Radio Network affiliates. When there's only one station in a market carrying sports, and the Brewers and Packers play at or nearly at the same time, the Packers tend to get picked up. In Milwaukee, WTMJ can broadcast the Packers and move the Brewers to an alternate, lower-power station. Madison can do the same with WIBA and WTSO. In smaller places, there may be no Brewers radio access. If the Brewers are still in the race in September, I'd really like to think attendance would still be healthy, even on dates with a Packers conflict. I would expect the viewing audience to decrease, though; or maybe use of picture-in-picture would spike.
-
Well, WIBA radio in Madison managed to snap me out of my Mota funk with their sports guy this morning. During one sports break he played a tornado or air raid siren during Bob's replayed calls of Mota action. During the next one he played "Yakety Sax", which you'd recognize readily if you've ever seen the Benny Hill show. I'm every bit as ready for his demotion, still, but at least I was able to laugh this morning.
-
Multiple Outs Take Ages. Obviously Ned either didn't read or chose to ignore my plea last Thursday to ditch Mota. I acknowledge that he's not likely to listen to a 42-year-old woman posting on a fan site. I certainly hope he's got enough evidence by now, though. Following through on my vow from last week to not watch any more Mota action (call it my personal mota-torium), I took a concourse walk as soon as the 7th ended, which eased my mind a bit. Talk about a one-man momentum killer. The game certainly had more hope before his appearance than after it. I realize that Ben technically earned the loss, but for the second time in a week it feels like the L should have been hung on Guillermo. De-mota-fy the Brewers now!

People who buy tickets in the family section and then make a big deal about having to go elsewhere to drink. By my count there are 151 seating sections in Miller Park, and 148 of them allow alcohol. If you have to have a beer at your seat, pick one of the 148. In a similar vein, parents who buy tickets in the family section and leave their kids while they go to drink elsewhere.
-
Indeed, Giants lot FTW. The first year of Miller Park, parking in that lot made me feel like County Stadium was still alive - at least until we got to the other side of the interstate. And we have been wondering the exact same question as sgt above, about the water on the road near the front of the Giants lot. Like sgt, I regularly root for the underappreciated players - hence (in part) my soft spot for Doug Davis. My first player tee was a Hardy (bought in 2005, mind you, before he turned on the bat). My second was a Villanueva and third is a Hart. Of course, Corey's way up on everyone's radar now. I either inherited or acquired the trait to root for the underappreciated from my mom - whose favorite Brewer last year was Kevin Mench. She hasn't declared a favorite to me yet this year, but I think she's leaning toward Gabe Kapler.
-
Thursday is YMCA Day. I suspect a lot of tickets went to YMCAs first. I was looking for a pair of seats two weeks ago and the online ticketing page already was pushing me to the corners. Or maybe everyone wants to welcome back JDLR. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

hawing replied to crewcrazy's topic in Archived Game Threads
Did I just hear the start of "Jump Around" at the park, before Uecker went to commercial? Speaking as a Madisonian, that's a smart way to get the crowd pumped up (not that that'd be difficult with tonight's crowd).
