  1. I didn't fill out a bracket, but I thought Illinois looked tough going in. Thought they had the look of a Final Four team. Big 10 isn't putting up a strong showing so far. Ouch.
  2. Welp. There goes a bunch of brackets
  3. "He was signed by the Brewers as an undefeated free agent in February 2003." Undefeated? That's impressive...
  4. Well they played as bad as possible in the 1st half, almost blew it, and still win. I'm not much for character building wins, but that was a heck of a comeback.
  5. everybody knows that pitchers put a little bit of grip on the ball and they don't care. Most batters have even said they'd rather have the pitcher have a grip on the ball than be throwing wildly up there and hitting dudes in the head. That being said, our boy Mike should have been a lot more discreet about how he was doing it.
  6. I've said this a gajillion times before, but instead of limiting pickoff moves, limit the amount of times Ryan Braun and guys like him can step out, adjust his gloves, cup, sleeves, helmet, and every piece of equipment (like.... after every pitch, even if they don't swing), for 37 seconds. That is way more of a time waster than a guy throwing a handful of pickoff throws. That would be a way to shorten game time without actually changing the way the game is played in any fundamental way. One might make the argument that batters spend 45 seconds adjusting their junk so they can get signs from the 3B coach, but in this day of 3TO, nobody bunting, and everybody being a pull hitter, the signs are mostly "swing really hard, yo!"
  7. There's something to be said about a guy who's Twitter bio proudly lists all the sites he's banned from. Maybe that says something about him, and not those sites. Maybe someday he'll figure that out. Maybe not.
  8. I mean, he's definitely not "just a name". He's probably still got plenty of pop. If he's starting once or twice a week and is the main RH pinch hitter, I wouldn't have a problem with Brauny coming into the fold in July or August if he thinks he's ready. He probably wouldn't even have a problem swinging into Appleton for a week or so to get game ready.
  9. Here's a random thought. I apologize if someone previously posted it in the thread. Probably not but I'm just wondering, thinking out loud if Stearns gave Braun one last phone call and said hey Ryan, I've got a deal on the fence here and I just really need to touch base with you one more time what your thoughts on coming back etc etc before he finalized this deal. I kind of doubt it personally, but it's just a thought that kind of popped into my head.
  10. I find myself Wondering what the distance was on that outlier home run to deep right center field. Because that must have been a monster shot
  11. Yep. No DH really sealed the deal for that, I think. About the only thing I really could picture is maybe him coming back in September and playing a pH/2 day a week starter role and carrying the team to the playoffs once again. That's actually kind of a silly fantasy. I would love to see the guy get in a bed in front of the home fans but I just don't see it happening. But Jackie Bradley Jr feels a need that Braun couldn't fill anymore.
  12. Whatever self-defined, goalpost moving, personal definition anyone may have of what spending money is, signing Jackie Bradley Jr is "spending money". I might not consider stopping at QuikTrip and grabbing a Gatorade spending money, but someone else might. Whatever anybody thinks about the Brewers finances or payroll, signing a guy like JBJ is certainly better than the dumpster diving that everybody says we were doing last off season.
  13. I absolutely don't have a problem with guys using video in game. It's technology that has changed the game and it's there, use it, as long as both sides are using it, and pitchers can use video in between innings to see what batters are doing, and use video to make their own adjustments. I think what a few people are saying is it wasn't a great look for Baez to complain about it the way he did. The grievance should have went to MLB and the players union and be worded "hey, can't we have tablets/ipads in the dugout??" As others said, 2020 was a weird year for a lot of people. Everybody. Everyone had to adjust not just how they worked, but how they went about day to day life. Apparently, baseball included , Javy Baez. I get it, being a superstar and suddenly hitting .195 because all the tools you had at your disposal aren't there sucks. Find a way to approach the union and the leadership group and say "hey, this is the way baseball is played now, we need our tools back" in a more diplomatic way. IMO of course!!

  15. +7.5, 3 points per game better than Brooklyn, the #2 team. Everything says they're okay. They went through a rough patch when they were missing holiday. They're figuring some things out with a really new lineup and I still think this is the best team in the east. Are they better than the Lakers or the jazz? I don't know. I'm not saying they will win the East, but they are the best team in the East, and they definitely haven't hit their stride yet. I guess we will see how Bud chooses to manage his minutes, his rotation and his strategy when playoff time comes. That's going to be the big tell. but everything I'm seeing and everything the stats tell us, this team really looks to be all right and they are in good position heading down the back half.
  16. 1 game out of the 1 seed now. I was never worried.
  17. WandaVision hasn't been "great" but the easter eggs and tie ins have been really well done. I think the show has been good and the pacing is fine. I think the show is really weird and it's still trying to find it's footing with some fans, but for long time comic book readers and big time nerdy fan boys, it's been a treat waiting for it to drop every week.
  18. Yup. It's going to be radio for me. I'm done-zo paying 100+ a month for cable and getting jerked around by the "customer service" from places like charter and DirecTV. I enjoy watching the Brewers, but not so much that I'll pay for a cable subscription that isn't worth near what it costs. The radio is good enough, and all the game highlights are on mlb.com or facebook minutes after they happen anyways.
  19. I think they're just coming together with the new pieces and ...... man, Midds is just playing some great ball. Can't say enough how much better his entire game looks this year. It's not just that he's averaging a few more assists.... he's just really playing a completely overall better game and yeah, he really looks like that solid, bonafide #2 guy.
  20. Yeah, Narvaez hit 22 homers in 2019, when literally every single guy in baseball was socking dingers. I wouldn't be surprised if he rebounded and hit 15 - 18 homers, but also wouldn't be shocked if he didn't. I would definitely expect Avi Garcia to provide more pop than he did last year. 15 - 18 isn't at all an unrealistic expectation. Turner's at that age where he can probably still hit for average, but I wouldn't be shocked to see his power decline a bit. He's never been a big power guy himself. He's had a few 20+ homer seasons, but that's not really his game.
  21. Except Rios is the reason the Dodgers are contemplating moving on from Turner. Rios is 26, plays the corner infield spots has hit in a small sample in the majors, and had an .887 OPS across 450+ minor league games. They're not going to drop or trade him, if anything he may take Turner's job. I honestly don't see why the Dodgers are still considering keeping Turner, with a guy like Rios on the squad. Rios has NEVER not hit at any level in the minors, and has come up to the majors and raked in small samples in 2 different seasons. At some point you have to give a guy the chance. Kinda feels like they're doing him dirty at this point if they don't find a way to get him substantial big league AB's this year. I get that Turner's a good clubhouse guy and all, but if you can replace that production (and probably then some) from a guy 10 years younger and a lot cheaper, it's a no brainer. Even for an organization with seemingly limitless funds.
  22. https://www.espnfrontrow.com/2021/02/remembering-espn-sportscenter-reporter-pedro-gomez/ RIP to longtime ESPN baseball reporter Pedro Gomez. One of the ESPN guys I genuinely liked. 58. Very young.
  23. Devil's advocate... but isn't this kind of like saying a male doctor shouldn't have a female patient? Or a human veterinarian shouldn't perform surgery on an animal patient? lol. That's obviously an absurd example, but why couldn't someone without 1st person experience evaluate and instruct what another person is doing with their anatomy that could be improved? The bottom line is no one on here really knows what her qualifications are, so if you think this was possibly just a promotional stunt you probably don't think very highly of the front office. I think it's a pretty smart group, so with that in mind I'll maintain confidence they know what they're doing and congratulate her on her new position! No, it's not like that. This young woman has no experience hitting a baseball, let aline at a professional level. The anology you're looking for is a college history major teaching a thoracic surgeon a new technique. https://thehittingvault.com/baseball-swing-vs-softball-swing/ https://www.buildingromeseries.com/baseball-vs-softball-swing/ https://hittingperformancelab.com/fastpitch-softball-hitting-mechanics/ Perhaps she has no experience "hitting a baseball", but most coaches will say that an elite softball swing and an elite baseball swing are coached the same and have the same basic body mechanics.
  24. No flags all game and that's a pi??
  25. I'm a big fan of MLF but there's a lot of decisions that are gonna be questioned after this game I think.
