  2. Brewers get: RHP Archer 1B Bell SS Bae (minors) Pirates get: OF Lutz OF Ray https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-18876/
  3. I really like Jeff Sullivan (formerly a great writer/personality for FanGraphs) and he now works in an MLB front office now (Rays). He used to write draft pick recaps for SB Nation, and he did not nail his Yelich profile in 2010... There ya go. Something that makes me feel less crazy. I wonder what Yelich's exit velocity was back then. That stat probably didnt exist then. But curious if it was above normal then but his ground ball results just made it feel he was never going to get. The ball in the air long enough. And we picked Dylan Covey that year. WE PICKED DYLAN COVEY THAT YEAR!!!
  4. Thanks. Is that projection based on him being with the Rays? I think he can have better power numbers with Miller Park as his home field.... A .791 OPS is nothing to sneeze at, and if it improves the defense... I can deal with that. Then again... walk rate looks low.
  5. Not sure if this is the reason, but Gio struggled to go deep into games. Only once completed six innings (that being said, it was against the Cubs). Could Gio benefit from going to the pen? Becoming a multi-inning reliever?
  6. Not if you want someone who can actually play 3rd base it’s not..... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/ryan-braun-is-willing-to-play-wherever-the-brewers-want-him-including-second-base/ If the options are Braun at third, trading for Kyle Seager (and not getting any big prospects like Sheffield or Dunn because the Mariners are allowed to pick up the salary), or trying to get in on Donaldson... Maybe Braun is the right call. If you need late-inning defense, Arcia comes in at short, Urias slides to third.
  7. With the way the Moustakas and Grandal deals went... it's clear this market was running a bit more richer than last season's.
  8. If he puts up an .849 OPS... how does that play at third? Crew signs Thames to handle first... ss: Urias 2b: Hiura lf: Yelich rf: Garcia 1b: Thames 3b: Braun c: Narvaez cf: Cain pitcher Just saying... it's an option.
  9. Interesting... Very interesting...
  10. Get Gio and Miley, and that moves Houser/Lindbolm to the pen. Both outfits become stronger.
  11. Agreed, which would seem to indicate that the Brewers had absolutely no interest in Kluber. What you'd be looking at as an equivalent from the Brewers in this case is Keon Broxton and Drew Rasmussen. Broxton many could take or leave... but a Rasmussen-type prospect for me would be a deal-breaker.
  12. Plus, there are park factors to consider. Seager and Belt are playing in pitcher-friendly parks. Oracle Park, in particular had one-year park factors that were 88 (hitting)/90 (pitching) compared to Miller Park's 101/101. Ideally, I take the whole amount of a Seager or Belt, and see if I can make Seattle and San Francisco cough up prospects. Lutz for Seager/Sheffield/Dunn would be a nice return. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-18674/ Sign Garcia, add on a small deal with the Mets (https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-18675/), and here's what I think a 26-man roster would look like: ss: Urias 2b: Hiura lf: Yelich rf: Garcia c: Narvaez 1b: Braun 3b: Seager cf: Cain pitcher bench: Pina, Smith, Lowrie, Gamel, Mathias rotation: Woodruff, Dunn, Lauer, Houser, Anderson bullpen: Knebel, Hader, Suter, Peralta, Sheffield, Lindblom, Yardley, D. Williams
  13. One thing I have noticed when looking over possible deals is that some potential returns play in parks that are much more pitcher-friendly. Jeff McNeil, Kyle Seager, and Brandon Belt all come to mind. The first one does well in Citi Field, which has played more pitcher-friendly than Marlins Park - and it is fair to wonder if he might see a similar "level-up" that Christian Yelich showed after he left a pitcher-friendly park. The other two have struggled, but could Miller Park help increase their production enough to make bad contracts more palatable with the right sweeteners?
  14. Per Baseball Reference Oracle Park's multi-year park factors are 94 hitting/95 pitching. The one-year factors for 2019 are 88 hitting, 90 pitching. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SFG/2019.shtml Miller Park's are 101/101 for multi-year and 102/101 for one-year in 2019. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2019.shtml Maybe just shifting home parks helps Belt to a degree as well.
  15. Yeah. But that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed because we'd have to wait around for a 16 year old. You're right ... this front office is good, and if they want this kid, it would be a for a reason. It would probably be a solid move for the future of the ballclub, as the Brewers don't find themselves owning youngsters with that type of hype very often, and I imagine it would certainly help the health of the system to have a supposed high-end talent like that in it. But a 16-year-old? Sheesh. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't have much interest in waiting around for that. And I don't trust the Yankees system. That said, everyone is allowed to have opinions on moves, and anyone can disagree with them and criticize them. That's what this is all about. Perhaps I need to learn just to scroll past the negative and unsubstantiated stuff, but it's rough sometimes, as you know. I need to be better about getting irked about that sort of thing. I just flash back to Gilbert Lara... and how he never really put it together. Despite the hype. He still has yet to crack a .700 OPS in the minors. I don't mind Dominguez as the third - or preferably, fourth - piece in a Hader package, but not as the headliner.
  16. If Hader is traded to the Mets, I would insist on Nimmo being a part of that deal. He has elite OBP skills. Sign Castellanos to play 1B and rotate Braun from LF to 1B depending on matchups. Make it McNeil. He's played left field, and would be a better option, IMO. Put him in Miller Park, and watch him erupt. If the Crew adds Castellanos, then McNeil slides to third.
  17. Depending on the stats, we have a high-end #2 (Arguably a #1) in Woodruff on the basis of FIP-. Houser is a borderline #2/#3 on FIP-. Brett Anderson and Lauer are #3 starters Lindblom... can't really tell, given KBO, but I'd probably slot him in as a #3. There is, of course, the minors, as well. Roegner and Supak, for starters. Brown and Burnes as potential comebacks from rough 2019s...
  18. I wouldn't say that high, but if I had to pick one Brewers prospect who could step in and fill Hader's multi-inning fireman role, it would be Rasmussen. Fastball that has touched 99 miles per hour, can go 2-3 innings at a time. Big difference is he actually has two other pitches he can command (slider and change-up), whereas Hader doesn't. I think the AFL performance of Clayton Andrews also looks promising in that regard. His bat's pretty good, too.
  19. Why do people want to go all in on a 2 year run with Thor instead of getting a haul of young talent and having a lengthy window instead of selling off after 1 and 1/2 or 2 years? I would rather get a headliner like McNeil that you’ll have for 5 years and build a lengthy window instead of putting all our eggs in one basket on a 2 year run and that’s it. McNeil Cain/Urias Yelich Hiura Narvaez Garcia Braun Urias/Cain P And to think we would have our 1-5 locked up for at least 3 years. Plus McNeil, Hiura, Urias, Woodruff, and Lauer controlled beyond that. Gives plenty of time for other moves and draft picks to make their way up and be long time contributors as well. I know building a lengthy competitive window isn’t something we are used to, but why destroy our chance of having that when it’s the first time we can actually build a true long time window of being competitive? If you want an ace, work on getting Severino then for 4 years. But Thor as the headliner for 2 years? No thank you. At least if we aren’t doing anything 2 years from now, Yelich and Severino can be moved and we wouldn’t even need to rebuild. If you get Thor and ride it out for 2 years, you only have 1 year of going for it with Yelich or trading him off and only netting the return from him and that’s it. Severino would make way more sense in my opinion. If you can pry McNeil, Lowrie, and J.D. Davis from the Mets, that gives you a lineup like this: ss: Urias 2b: Hiura rf: Yelich 1b: Davis 3b: McNeil lf: Braun c: Narvaez cf: Cain pitcher No offensive holes, Lowrie on the bench with Gamel, Pina, Taylor, and Mathias. Rotation has Woodruff, Houser, Lauer, Lindholm, and Anderson Bullpen would still have Knebel, Rasmussen, Suter, Peralta, Perdomo, Devin Williams, Faria, and Yardley
  20. What did Tristan lutz do to you? I think this is the 73rd proposal that involves trading him you’ve posted He's a top prospect not named Brice Turang the Brewers can deal to maybe get a good return back for taking a bad contract. In this case, the Brewers get Mike Yastrzemski and outfield prospect Hunter Bishop in addition to Belt.
  21. I don't see it with the Yankees. The Mets, OTOH, have players I like.
  22. I could tolerate Brandon Belt in a deal like this: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-18625/ Brewers get: OF Hunter Bishop OF Mike Yastrzemski 1B Brandon Belt Giants get: OF Tristan Lutz SS Orlando Arcia
  23. I think the Brewers should be listening to offers - they don't HAVE to trade Hader now - I think they can get other teams to back up the dump truck through the 2021 season's trading deadline. That is a LONG time. Hader doesn't turn 27 until around Opening Day 2021. Now, I would be looking to buy out Hader's arby years, and maybe get some options for the first year or two of free agency. Try to limit the loss of trade value. Maybe 5 years, $45 million guaranteed ($5 million bonus, $7 million/year for five years, team option year 6 of $9 million or a $5 million buyout, team option year 7 of $10 million or a $2.5 million buyout).
  24. You assume he’ll still warrant a “haul” in two years. I’d guess he’ll still be good then, but maybe not. And he certainly will have less value given less years of control. But we’ve seen repeatedly the Brewers failing to sell high on their assets over the years - Aramis Ramirez, Casey McGehee, even Lucroy and Gomez as mentioned were traded after their value peaked. People see a potential Hader trade as a sign of a rebuild, I believe management sees it as a reload. Maximize value at its peak and restock on controllable assets before you lose the chance. And if you don’t get great value offered in return, then they’ll happily keep him. It’s a win-win. In a way, both of you are right. This is a win-win. There is no pressing need to sell Hader. That said, it doesn't hurt to try and figure out what we'd want for him. Somewhat proven, controllable talent who could benefit from Miller Park - like Jeff McNeil? Young starting pitchers with TOR talent? Prospects to reload the farm system? The right sort of package would help the Brewers a lot. We can be assured that Stearns will not pull the trigger without someone backing up the dump truck.
  25. The defense would be his main purpose - offense as gravy?
