  1. ""Our fans should not be funding the Cubs' new facility down there,"" Good job making the argument against revenue sharing there Rick! Way to think ahead! Can't wait for the new Cubs owners to use that against you when revenue sharing comes up in the new CBA!
  2. Yeah there are a bunch of NRIs but what really is being competed for? The 2nd catcher, the 5th OFer, the 2nd UI, and the last bullpen spot.
  3. And to make it more confusing a player with options remaining but enough service time in the majors but less then 5 years (3 years I believe) must be waived but not DFA'd to be sent to the minors
  4. Most cities the size of Milwaukee don't have a major sports team.
  5. No it wasn't. It wasn't until Selig became commissioner that the salary structure fell apart.
  6. A statue just seems out of place. A plaque? Sure. A special smoking section? Why not! But a statue just feels wrong.
  7. Isn't 19 on the fairly old side for a signing?
  8. Does Villa really have options? I dont think he does. No way Narveson will pass waivers, so I say either stick him down in AAA till we need him.The brewerfan 40 man page has the best list of options remaining out there (it will occasionally miss on extra options granted but thats because unless brewerfan asks no one else who isn't working directly on the issue for the Brewers knows either) http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewFortyManRoster.do?teamId=1
  9. Also keep in mind Bedard pulls himself after 100 pitches. So if he only makes 15 starts those won't go past 6 innings so thats maybe 90 innings.
  10. Villaneuva has options, Narveson doesn't. But Riske then becomes a wildcard. If Riske is ready say in May do you try to pass Narveson through waivers during cutdown in hopes to get him through during the mass of people and then option Villaneuva down when Riske is ready to go? Do you not take the risk and plan on someone having to miss sometime at some point early on and option Villaneuva down?
  11. My brother is currently planning a wedding that isn't too extravagant (a full open bar for the night is the main thing) and its going to cost between $25K-30K when all is done. Really elope and then have a potluck when you get back.
  12. Europe does not have a stagnant economy.
  13. The one thing is Bush's "experience" in pitching relief has been brought up before. The fact that he's actually pitched worse in relief tends to be ignored. (I really wonder if he gets himself too amped up, he pre-game ritual is apparently to be very active. That also might explain why his road stats are so bad, he gets worked up to start the game and then has to sit 20-30 minutes before he can pitch).
  14. Mauer is a better player than Fielder signing a contract with one year remaining. I think its very relevant not just to Fielder but to Pujols as well. I also think Pujols won't take much of a discount since he probably thinks he already gave St Louis a big one with his last contract.
  15. The final spot in the rotation will be between Bush, Suppan and maybe Narveson assuming Parra is healthy. The other question, the one Haudricort whiffed on in his weekly article, is who among Villaneauva, Loghren and Narveson get the final bullpen spot.
  16. The big issue for Fielder are the two contracts coming up for Mauer and Pujols. Those would seem to set the ceiling for the new market. Mauer could get done anytime now and Pujols you'd think by next October.
  17. Except right now that isn't the lineup-Young is in and Thome is out.
  18. How is Suppan green? He had injury issues last season and is 35. Parra not being listed is a problem, he's likely Yellow if not Red.
  19. No it won't. Well not unless the US collapses and then there is a lot more to worry about than portfolio return. If you want an inflation hedge (at this point inflation hedges seem weird since the only central bank that is allowing inflation is China in order to devalue their currency) look to a TIPS bond fund http://www.treasurydirect...cts/prod_tips_glance.htm
  20. Gold is a terrible investment long term and buying gold through gold brokers is always a bad idea.
  21. Why Estrada never got a bigger chance with the Nats amazes me. Yeah he doesn't have tools to be great but he could be serviceable and its not like the Nats have anything batter to do then to see if a 25 year old pitcher with decent minor success can be a #4 or 5 starter for you.
  22. How is it far off? Yeah there are some stars there but there are also a great deal of never will bes and never has beens. Some take it seriously some take it for a nice paycheck in the winter and some use it for rehab. I don't mean talent wise, yeah the winter leagues have more talent, but on the ability to tell anything from it I think they are pretty similar.
  23. I think its much closer to wood bat summer leagues than organized MiLB.
  24. Oakland had to make a bunch of roster moves to get their 40 man in order (ie releasing Tavares after getting him from Cincy)
  25. Wisconsin needs certain things to attract business. And not lower taxes really aren't that important. They need a climate that fosters wanting young educated people to relocate to the upper midwest. Weather is unkind to Wisconsin so it will never compete with San Diego or San Fansico there. But connect it through infrastructure to the culture of Chicago? You can start a big business boom on the corridor between Chicago and Milwaukee. Now the corridor between Milwaukee and Madison isn't goign to cause such a thing, but if you got to to Minneapolis with the route anyway avoidin Madision is foolish and now you can tie in a lot more communities to the greter Chcago metro area. Yeah they won't commute to Chicago, but look at DC. Lots of people don't commute to DC proper, they commute to NoVa.
