  1. No he isn't. Again the difference between the two offensively is nil and Weeks is better defensively. This is what I don't get, replacing Weeks with Durham doesn't really do anything. Yet people all over act like its something that must be done.
  2. Doesn't really get on base? His minor league OBP is .399. He may not have a lot of power but he's also very young for his league. Always has been. Brantley's career SLG% is .372, Gwynn has been above that number once in his career when he repeated AAA. Gwynn's career SLG% is .342. Brantley also has 55 more walks than strikeouts in his career. Gwynn never drew as many walks as Brantley does and Gwynn also strikes out much more. I'm not saying Brantley is this great hitter and that he does hit for power but saying he's Gwynn is pretty ridiculous. The point is aside from pre- injury Luis Castillo, players who have no power don't keep up such high OBPs. The only reason his slugging is higher than Gwynn's is because he hits for a higher average. Obviously given the age he's doing all this at is very encouraging. but he's not ready at this point. He is nowhere close to replacing Cameron next year which is my main point.
  3. Ichiro has negative value to the Brewers
  4. Really, if Sveum wanted to make a difference he would have sat Hart for Nelson instead.
  5. Durham's post ASB numbers are basically a carbon copy of his pre All Star numbers. Again It's be great if they could play both, but Weeks has been on fire for the past 2 weeks (.333/.459/.500) how Durham could actually improve on that just is hard to see. It'd make more sense at this point to platoon Hart with Brad Nelson to try to get some more offense.
  6. I still don't get the whole-"Durham should start" argument. Have people arguing this actually looked at what Weeks has done instead of focusing on the fact his season numbers are low? Weeks post ASB: .265/.378/.426 Durham post ASB:.266/.352/.468 Thats as close to a wash as you can get. OXS of .161 vs .164. And I know people hate to face it, but Weeks is superior in the field to Durham at this point in his career. Yes it would be great if either could play 3B but as it is there just isn't any big gain there to moving Weeks out.
  7. Has Prince made any statements about Yost getting fired? I used to think he was the "clubhouse leader", but I rarely hear anything from him. While I don't think that Prince has anything to do with Yost getting fired, it would still be interesting to get his take on it. And from Hardy's comments it sounds like more than a few players didn't get along with Yost. If it took Hardy 3 years to "warm up" to Yost, after Yost was the one who insited on playing a struggling Hardy, that paints a picture of a guy who's hard to get along with. I don't want to off on a tangent here, but Hardy was pretty much benched by the time he got hurt and was done for the season. His playing time was evaporating quickly with many here calling for him either to be played or sent down. Its one of those myths the sprung up that Yost was really patient with him when that patience really only lasted a month.
  8. More likely its Stetter.
  9. < 1) Yes, I meant in my earlier post to say that Escobar could get on base more and put himself into scoring position more becuase he's a guy with some serious speed. I didn't mean to say he would knock in more runs 2) I don't see how you figure Hall + Hardy + Weeks will score more runs than Escobar + Hardy + Weeks. Yes he is young and unproven, but lets be honest, Bill Hall is one of the worst hitters in MLB this season (and not much better last). I would say at worst, Escobar in the lineup could produce the same amount of runs while providing a nice defensive upgrade. Whether Ned Yost and Doug Melvin are willing to admit it or not, it hurts the team having guys who K as much as ours do. How many dozens of times can you recall this season where we strike out with 1 out and a runner on 1st or 2nd. That changes the enitre complexion of the inning because a sacrafice no longer will get that run in. Obviously DM knows that this because he was tirelessly trying to get a guy who k's less in the off-season, but we ended up getting Cameron instead (who is having a pretty good year). While we are deviating very far off topic, my point was that instead of having 5 or 6 guys who can bop 25HR/season, it would be nice to have some men with higher OBP's to complement the home run hitters more. The point is that Escobar isn't that player. He won't get on base. His has a Gwynn type bat. And Hall isn't part of the equation except in a platoon role for a year waiting on Gamel. And K's just don't matter, outs matter. But I really don't want to get into that here.
  10. So how exactly did this team improve then with every single position player save Hardy falling off from last year? Melvin brought in Cameron, he got Parra, he got CC.
  11. I can guarantee you that there are about 100 candidates having the agent send out feelers today.
  12. No, it just shows Braun knows how to deflect blame! Once you start making things it up it easy to allow the few known facts fit the story.
  13. I can make an even more plausible case out of nothing for Braun (Yost just moved him in the batting order after complained about it to begin the year, he had to call out the players and not Yost after Boston). But that is baseless. But hey let's blame Fielder based on wild speculation and gut feeling and then talk about how immature he is based on groundless speculation!
  14. How? The team got CC to move them from 88 wins to 90 wins. And how is Septemeber the true colors and not August?
  15. You can offer any amount for a contract, which is why if Capuano likes the Brewer training staff he'll be back at around 700K or so. Once you go to arbitration you have to follow the rules. Why Type B may matter for Gagne is say he want to go back to the Dodgers for 700K right at the end of the season, the Dodgers could sign him before the arby deadline because they lose nothing in doing so.
  16. Ichiro is not going anywhere. The Ms are talking huge salary cuts, meaning they want prospects not arby guys. And this trade would pretty much close the window for the Brewers after 2009.
  17. Willie Randoplh before wouldn't have taken the Brewers job, as he thought it beneath him. Don't really think its a good idea now.
  18. If by typical leadoff hitter, you mean a slap hitter that doesn't really get on base, how soon we forget Alex Sanchez. Brantley has a ISO of .080 in AA. He's another Gwynn at this point. He still has time to develop power of course, but until he does he's a 5th OFer.
  19. And why do you think this is Escobar? Because everything points to him not being that way. Think Counsell. Escobar had a good seaon in AA but it was all BABIP driven and he still has no power.
  20. Yes, but doing it in September is different than doing it in spring training for the season.
  21. No it was fully priced. As today shows, the only thing that was keeping Take 2's stock up was the takeover bid which would have happened if Take 2 board didn't squeeze out most stockholders from voting.
  22. Yep Weeks has hit as well as everyone's favorite backup QB er 2B Durham since the All Star break and is better defensively. Moving Hall at this point makes little sense since he give you a great RH platoon option at 3B and can fill in around the infield meaning while moving him entails eating salary and brinigng in a no hit UI for about the same price.
  23. Ryan Braun doesn't think to himself " Boy wouldn't it be great if I went into a deep offensive slump for teh next two weeks! That'll help the team!" Yost does think "Hey, Shouse can easily get out one of the premier right handed hitters in the game with men on base!" If you don't see the difference in personal culpability I'm sorry.
  24. Penny will either be a Dodger or rehabbing the majority of the year.
