  1. Should have won those two games? The first game they scored 2 runs-you don't win many games scoring 2 runs. That's not a should have won, thats a lucky to still be in the game late. Yesterday the starter gave up 5 runs early, again not a game you often win and it goes to the 10th.
  2. The big thing is that its nowhere near as memory intensive as firefox with multiple tabs
  3. No three, three catchers available
  4. How many catchers must the Brewers have before Kendall gets lifted? 6? 7?
  5. Nelson>>>>>>>Gwynn Salome>>>>>>Gwynn Gamel>>>>>>>Gwynn I give up
  6. I'd go with a dead arm until further notice. He also probably would like to avoid wearing his arm down constantly throwing curves like he had to.
  7. Anyone have a clue how Sheets is managing 5 shutout innings vs a good Mets' offensive with no fastball?
  8. You see Sheet's AB? He's lulling Sanatana into throwing a meatball down the middle next AB with his "don't swing at anything " approach!
  9. I think Pinella gets it if the Cubs break 100, but Jerry Manuel could easily win taking over as interim manager and leading the Mets to the NL East title. And he'll have the New York press on his side especially to spite Randolph and to rub it in the playoffless Yankees' faces.
  10. Current VORP standings: Pujols 83.3 Berkman 77.0 H Ramirez 67.2 C. Jones 62.3 Reyes 60.4 Holliday 60.0 Utley 56.0 Wright 51.2 Ludwick 47.3 McCann 46.3 Braun 43.8 So yes Braun would still be a bad choice, but given that Pujols and Berkman are unlikely to make the playoffs and Pujols is a repeater type the best choices are likely to not get the top votes. Jones might get a few votes but Atlanta tanking plus him being injured killed him. The Marlins may end up below .500 killing Ramirez. Holliday has no shot. Ludwick might get votes if St Louis makes the playoffs but that's unlikely. And McCann might as well be in Witness Protection. Wright looks to be the best bet but Braun might sneak in if Reyes and Wright split the vote if the Mets make the playoffs. EDIT: Sabathia's VORP is 38.8, so no right now he shouldn't even be mentioned as MVP but sportswriters like the story so he has a great shot. The fact that Linecum isn't a runaway CY Young winner pretty much tells you everythign you need to know.
  11. Cecil Cooper MOY- 6.6 wins above 3rd order W%! You could actually make a decent case for Cooper for turning around the Astros when it looked to all the world they had nothing to play for and about to enter a huge downward spiral.
  12. I don't buy that there was no pressure on after the "hit". If you were to have polled players from both teams during the game I'd wager 75% or greater were expecting an announcement to come down anytime that there was a scoring change.
  13. Of course they have more of an impact than that. Say Gamel comes up to begin next year and has to be sent down after not hitting for a month. Well you just lost a year of service because you had him sit on the bench in September.
  14. Using one year splits on a reliever is the problem. Shouse hasn't changed his delivery he is exactly the same pitcher he has always been with the Brewers. The difference is that he's been lucky this year with a BABIP of .280. No he doesn't tend to give up home runs but he has huge problems getting right handed hitters out.
  15. Aww Rick Reilly, the epitome of the modern sports columnist. The pinnacle of his profession. Why sports reporting sucks! http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3554767 His latest column bemoans the fate of Mitch Jones, who has hit a bunch of minor league home runs without getting to the majors! It must be because of steroids! Lets see how well Mr. Jones actually hit: .852 OPS at 22 in low A--not too bad but hardly earth shattering .774 OPS at age 23 in high A-oops guess he'll need to repeat .845 in high at age 24-might as well promote him .709 OPS at age 24 in AA well he's got to repeat .756 OPS at age 25 in AA he's a good guy at least! .880 OPS at age 26 in AA maybe he's just a late bloomer! .854 OPS at age 27 in AAA hardly promotion worthy But hey it must be a conspiracy!
  16. Yes ARod only improved upon the highest paid contract in baseball history. Boy that Boras was such a fool!
  17. Sheets can't be optioned. He has too many years of service. More likely course is DLing Durham.
  18. Tony LaRussa of course is the man most responsible for the growth of PEDs who still has a job in baseball. Yes I'm sure its just coincidence that he was in Oakland for Conseco and McGwire. And that McGwire took it to another level with Tony in St Louis. And the fact that he had a drug related death on his team. All just happenstance!
  19. No, no, a thousand times no. The myth of Shouse being decent against right handers is another Yostian thing that just isn't true no matter how much Brian and Bill talk about it. He still can't get them out, about all he has going for him is luck. He hasn't become a different pitcher, he still throws the same and over the last three years his split vs RHB is.314/.388/.451.
  20. I always question how baseball owners can live with themselves. Their capital expenses are picked up by taxpayers, they artificially keep their employees salaries low and they even get the public to want to help keep their labor costs even lower!
  21. I'm afraid Branyan is stuck on the DL until the 1st because they are afraid to send Nix down because they might lose him. Lets be honest as soon as Braun returned, Dillon should have been up otherwise.
  22. Really Yost? Parra's limit was a lucky shot off the mound and for that you let him hit?
  23. And Jeter was brutal defensively and became a legend. And like I mentioned in another post-Hardy could easily sign with New York after Jeter's deal is through. Jeter's deal is up after 2010. Hardy becomes a FA after 2010. You do the math.
