  1. No its just Al saying that the sample size is too small to judge and then using an even smaller sample to say Mota's been ok. Of course Mota dominated LHers last year while RHers killed him..... (It's like its entirely BABIP driven or something!)
  2. Don't forget the huge bump in ticket sales when Wolf starts and the huge sales of Wolf jerseys!
  3. If we've seen anything Mark A has been loathe to lose money on the Brewers. This may (I stress may) be the first year where he'll lose a small amount in operating expenses. He's been making huge amounts the past few years. I'm not bashing him or anything but people tend not to understand that he didn't come here and suddenly open up the coffers, but he has other income sources so unlike the Seligs he wasn't borrowing to pay spring payrolls until June revenue sharing checks came in.

  5. Torres is a good pitcher, but the diffrence between Torres batting and Gabe Kapler batting is much greater than Villaneuva vs Torres pitching.
  6. There is no way Wolf gets a Type A designation. And if he gets a Type B, I give up. Keep in mind he only pitched 100 innings last year.
  7. You have a different definition of a horrible slump than I do.
  8. I can't understand how anyone can defend Torres hitting in the 10th with one out man on 2B and only a one run lead. Add to it three players on the bench, 4 pitchers in the pen and that Torres was already pitching his 3rd day in a row so extending him was questionable even if he wasn't batting.
  9. If you pitch Shouse in that situation, guess what he'll give up baserunners and sometimes a bunch of runs. He's a LOOGY, He's always been a LOOGY and will always be a LOOGY. He can't get right handers out. If you definitely don't want to see Torres pitch you don't put Shosue in against all Rhers.
  10. Because Durham would never have gotten to those balls it would have been a loss
  11. Nope, LaRussa outmanaged Yost by a wide margin, he went all out to try to win the game which left his bench empty but it was the right call. There is absolutely no excuse for Torres hitting in the 10th with a man on 2B when you have a bullpen that could easily cover 9 more innings if needed and three players left on the bench.
  12. Pick n Save has pork shoulder on a semi-sale this week ($1.29/lb, can sometimes get it for $1/lb). The meat in the case is usually cut too small (2-4lbs) but if you 8lb full shoulder from the back if they have some or they'll hold one for you from the next shipment. You buy that and then you can make some real BBQ. EDIT: If you do this, check the fat cap and if its on the thin side be prepared to augment it with some bacon.
  13. Of course the last time before last season was 2003 so I'm not sure why he's a 200 inning guy. And he's unlikely to get to 200 innings this year.
  14. Are we going to have to hear about "Braun MVP!" for the rest of the season from Bill and Brian?
  15. Given that this injury is the type that completely kills careers, yeah 4 years isn't that long of a time.
  16. Love how the better pitcher Bush is a stopgap while Suppan is a veteran presence
  17. Suppan has a similar split. Manny Parra has a similar split. Zambrano has a similar split this year. Kyle Lohse has a similar split this year. So apparently lots of pitchers should be platooned
  18. The biggest problem with this is how is success or failure judged? If Bush comes home and has an awful start, is he moved to pen even though its likely due to him not having pitched in 2.5 weeks? Do we let this go on for a month, two?
  19. Well sure, but his marginal cost is what it is. And its $12.5 million next year. His likely replacement is McClung who is likely only 1-2 wins worse than Suppan at the most. That $6 million a marginal win. Not a very good way to spend money. If Suppan is traded his deal was a decent one, if not it isn't.
  20. The rumor that the Brewers had scouts following Oakland and that must mean Street was been evaluated all was Tom H and in his notes column. Meaning it was in teh actual paper with absolutely no confirmation. And then this rumor which Tom H has no info on suddenly wasn't going to happen because Street had a bad game.
  21. Counsell doesn't have the arm strength anymore to play 3B
  22. Shouse-still a LOOGY no matter what Yost thinks
  23. Best part? Rock thinks he plays for Tampa and so they are talking about how the Rays are still in it! And of course Burnett already signed his FA contract that he might opt out of, but hey its not like Brian and Bill get paid 6 figures to talk baseball or anything
  24. Grudz bat is very similar and he can play defense. Not sure how that isn't superior. Ellis is the best defensive 2B in the game. Durham's defense is just really bad.
  25. It depends what you want, as a lefty bat bench he's fine. As a regular 2B to replace Weeks, he'll give up more runs than he'll score over Weeks and with both Ellis and Grudzilanek available he's underwhelming.
