  1. Playoff odds links, along with member analysis of the quality of the playoff odds systems, are in this thread: coolstandings.com.
  2. Branyan's s bug me What bugs you? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I've been looking into these notebooks, and one thing the MacBook Pro offers is an LED screen. The reviewers really seem to like it. You also have a choice of matte or glossy (same price). The MacBook is glossy only. Also, in regard to the advice two messages above, if one needs the portability of a notebook, but would also benefit from working from a standard monitor, I'd suggest buying the notebook and plugging it into a standard monitor at home.
  4. I remember Bob Uecker commenting that stuff like this in the clubhouse is much more common than one would think and that those altercations frequently go unreported. This happened in public, of course, but when it comes right down to it, I don't know how much of a difference that makes.
  5. The Brewers had two Pioneer League affiliates for several years. From 1996-2000, Ogden (UT) and Helena both had contracts with Milwaukee. In 1994-95, the Brewers sent players to Ogden as part of a co-op arrangement. Since then, rules have been changed to try to standardize the way teams assign their minor league players. Part of that is that a Major League club can't have two affiliates in the same league. Brewers Affiliate History
  6. We're looking at a 103 ABs where Mat hit .243 in July. That can easily be written off as a small sample. Before being too concerned, we need to see what the rest of the season brings.
  7. ...or for BTA "it is what it is." It bums me out when acronyms I don't know don't Google easily. Was the term "air conditioner" coined by the Baltimore Transit Alliance, the British Tourist Authority, or Brian the Automator?
  8. Isn't the word "ridiculosity"? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, creative thread titles are way cool. Candidates for title changes would be (but wouldn't be limited to): titles like "Please read," "Question," "Rickie Weeks," etc. titles that contain half a sentence in the title and the other half in the post titles that sound like the teasers you hear on Entertainment Tonight
  9. "I'm really not sure how you can type this with a straight face." is an example of something that crosses the condescension line at the warning level rather than the strike or ban level. Of course, repeated instances by the same member could up the ante.
  10. This would be the previous thread: Useless sitcom trivia.
  11. Since it was posted to several times yesterday, let's follow the saga in the existing thread: Any chance of Gallardo in September or October? -- Latest: Yo throwing from 45 feet on flat ground (reply #40) Note that there are a couple of related Gallardo topics listed under the Gallardo tag.
  12. My question was ignored as they tried to play the "unplug the modem" game they always play. I'd love to know how the techie expects you to continue the chat if you did that.
  13. The discrepancy hawing points out still exists between the Journal Sentinel and ESPN. Weirdly enough, the ESPN number would match up to an article Tom Haudricourt wrote a few days ago. I think I gotta go with hawing's spreadsheet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Although, I also think that the next time I go to a game, I'll write down the number displayed on the scoreboard and see how that matches.
  14. The Chicago Courtyard, Chicago Botanical Society, and Chicago Magazine probably came forward and offered the freebies.
  15. When I checked last night, the best seats available for the Wednesday afternoon, August 20 game vs. Houston were in the upper reaches of the Terrace Reserved. However, they were still relatively close to home plate. The Houston night games still had seats in several sections, but they were hardly what one could call premium. Still OK, though.
  16. It was posted in the In-Game thread that DirecTV is moving channels around and that details are on the web site. I haven't had time to look at their website, and I'm not at home to check to see what might be showing up in my receiver's program guide. However, channels that have moved have tended to be highlighted a different color and have given forwarding information.
  17. I am new to DTV and I must say i hate all this moving of channels crap. This is the most channel moving DirecTV has done since about nine years ago. That time, every channel moved sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning. Most of the time, channel number changes are very few and far between.
  18. Does anyone know if a full version of Windows Live Messenger 2008 is available online for download? All I'm finding is a 2.3 MB installer that'll take you into a live installer. I really, really, really want to avoid an online installation that'll take who knows how long on dialup. I'd love to get the whole thing on broadband, burn it to a CD, and install that way. (If it makes a difference, this would be Live Messenger 2008 for Windows XP Service Pack 2.)
  19. Sportswriters just aren't the best way to filter player info anymore... I believe players (and maybe also coaches) vote for the Gold Glove. Kinda freaky, isn't it?
  20. Are you saying that you paste some text, put it in a quote box, then can't continue writing under the post box? If that's the case, just to be sure I don't get stuck I'll... Paste the quote. Right after the quote (without even a line break), I'll start typing my next sentence or type an extra character or two. Select the text I'd like to quote (excluding the follow-up sentence/characters). Hit the quote button. Continue to type below the button, replacing the extra characters if necessary. Brian's method should be fine, too. Give yourself a lot of extra line breaks, do your work in the midst of them, then close up the extra white space later. If you get stuck or prefer this alternative anyway, hit the HTML view button (just to the left of the Spellcheck), start typing your next sentence (or a couple replaceable characters) after the closing blockquote tag (), then hit the HTML view button again to return to normal mode, and continue typing. Another option would be to use the Quote bbcode. Examples: [quote]This is quoted text[/quote] [quote=Chris]This is quoted from Chris[/quote] You'd probably want to hit preview to make sure your white space is the way you want it.
  21. As you can see, I'm getting a mess, too. While this doesn't help either of us fix the problem, this is what's happening: HTML tags are totally ignored when using the HTML tag or the [code] bbcode. They're preserved in the post editor, though. The HTML tag preserves the tags, but it ignores the spaces ( ). Again, they're preserved in the post editor. Picture of reply #2 in post editor: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/pre-code.gif ------------------- EDIT... Reported: Preformatted text all goofy
  22. Using the HTML "pre" tag, done entirely in HTML mode: PriceCheap Bread $1.50Designer Bread $3.00Milk $3.50Ice Cream $4.50---------------------Total $12.50 Using the "code" bbcode done entirely in post editor: Chevy $3,000Ford $5,000Toyota $7,000 Using the "code" html tag Chevy $3,000 Ford $5,000 Toyota $7,000
  23. I'll see if I can learn the status on that. I think the HTML pre tag produces the same crummy results. These tags worked somewhat, then were busted entirely, then were allegedly fixed pending a push. There was supposed to be a push in May, but it's been delayed twice.
  24. The 'big deal' would be the specific circumstances described in the lead post. It wasn't a "same old, same old" crowd behavior message.
