  1. I'd try to keep Grandal here - get an extension. There's no better options in the minor league system other than David Fry, who is at full-season A. I'd try to keep Grandal and Moose and still upgrade other places(like starting pitching).
  2. We have the best one, and he should be starting. Another mistake DS made is giving ten times Pina's contract to Grandal for far worse defense and only and slightly better offense. 127 points in OPS is not slightly better. That is almost like saying Braun's offense is only slightly better than Arcia (139 point difference) Give Pina regular playing time and it's much closer. Nothing could be further from the truth...we've seen Manny "hit" as a full time Catcher, if you want to call it that. he can't carry Grandal's jock offensively. That's just silly to even think that.
  3. Wonder if CC will pull Chase after 5 again as has been the norm...knowing him, even with a bullpen day tomorrow, he will.
  4. I know many don't feel this way, but I absolutely hate the shifts that go on now days. To me it's "junk" baseball. Guess I'm a purist, play it straight up. If you get beat, you get beat.
  5. Nelson to 60 day IL Milwaukee Brewers @Brewers · 8m RHP Devin Williams has been selected from Triple-A San Antonio and RHP Aaron Wilkerson was optioned there. RHP Jimmy Nelson has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. The 40-man roster remains full.
  6. If this is the plan then the Crew had better absolutely pound Pittsburgh the first two games, so he doesn't have to go through BP arms the first two games, or..so they have a big enough lead to use the crappy arms like Guerra, Jeffress etc.
  7. Davies going on IL is the best possible thing to happen to this team right now, regardless of who takes his spot. That will be an improvement IMO.
  8. I just couldn't understand the lack of getting at least one more back end of the rotation type(like Roark). Oakland didn't give up much to acquire him. All i know is I hope like hell, they get smart and buy some pitching next year in FA, and trade Zach Davies. Want him nowhere near this staff next year.
  9. The Brewers are 2nd in the NL in walks. EXACTLY my point, they sure haven't shown that in this series
  10. Jordan Bastian @MLBastian · 5m The Cubs' rotation has not issued a walk since the 5th inning one week ago. Including Darvish's first two innings today, that's 132 consecutive batters faced with zero free passes. A lot of this is on the Crew and their refusal to seemingly work deep into counts.
  11. Here's the thing...the whole rest of that inning was torpedoed by Arcia's stupid swing at the 1st pitch. After that, you knew it wouldn't end well. That's lack of awareness, you're in the 7 hole..you are followed by a guy hitting .155 then the Pitcher..likely two outs. So how about a good at bat there Orlando?? Work the count a bit..nah, I will first pitch swing. Great approach. Right then and there the inning was over.
  12. I mean...one more games against the Cubs...then 3 against the Pirates...could be just what this team needs right now...4 in a row?? Silver lining maybe?? or something like that.
  13. Do you remember last year? That was only...1 year ago... Yes, and if you remember, Corbin Burnes was great out of the bullpen last year(used as a starter this year, disaster from the beginning), Chacin had a career year(fluky), But he also had a veteran in Wade Miley(ZERO reason he shouldn't have brought him back), and his acquisition of Gio was good(should have brought him back too). He put WAY too much faith in three young arms(plus a terrible Zach Davies) to carry them..No idea what he was thinking...other than he had to be the only one that actually thought that was going to work. Gio NEEDS to be back next year and he NEEDS to find another anchor or two for the rotation. It starts there. Guys that can give you 6 or 7 consistently(or more put guys that he will let go 6 or 7), and run with it. Until he finds that anchor or two for the rotation(to go with Woody), it will be same old same old(unless lightning strikes again). My targets are Gerritt Cole, Stephen Strasburg(if he opts out), Madison Bumgarner, Zach Wheeler and Wade Miley(again)
  14. One of the biggest problems this team has had this year is CC's insistence on pulling starters early and bringing in the Bullpen to blow it. You'd have thought by now that he'd have figured out, sometimes your starter, when he's rolling is a better option for another inning(or more) than the crap bullpen he has. He has done it with Chase too often this year, did it with Gio today, it's been a problem all year long. He's been terrible at managing this year, just terrible.
  15. I have said it once, and I will keep saying it...although it hasn't been the biggest issue this year, until Stearns wisens up and realizes that he is going to have to spend BIG $$ on Free agent pitchers or find a way to acquire one, this is what's always going to happen with a team like the Brewers. You CANNOT continue to trot out guys like Zach Davies and be taken seriously. But I bet nothing changes next year...Peralta, and for sure Burnes will be right back in the rotation because Stearns will say "we have confidence in them". Then some scrub will get signed to take Chacin's spot...rinse and repeat, year after year.
  16. Should have sold. Am I right? You said this a page ago....Would have been a good spot for a guy like Houser had an arm been acquired at the deadline. But you do you, Stearns. No, he should NOT have sold, what he should have done is exactly what you said above...acquired an arm...or two or three. Thank god packer season is here.
  17. Could one of the soft as hell Brewer reporters PLEASE ask Counsell after the game why he keeps using Junior Guerra in big spots when he has been struggling badly??
  18. +1000...You nailed it totally. Maybe he doesn't have a hatred for the Brewers, but he WILL do things(and has shown he will) to try to get who he thinks his best arms are against the Brewers. Hamels COULD have started at least a few days ago already. Again, don't for one second think that the fact Quintana never misses series against the Brewers is by coincidence. Especially when he has done things(extra rest etc), to assure that he does pitch against the Crew in an upcoming series. Maybe it's not hatred, but I do feel like there's a little bit of "I will show you! to it...Here, hit Quintana, your kryptonite, let me know how that goes".
  19. The brewers were never mike Tyson. More of like a Trevor berbick More like someone who cuts one on a windy day. Momentarily noticed but gone in a flash. "Nothing more than a fart in the wind"-Ron Wolff
  20. I mean, at some point, don't you just have to have a big inning, if nothing else just by accident?? This team REALLY needs one, sometime in the next two games would be fantastic. Also, will they EVER sweep a series again??
  21. This makes zero sense. He's been the GM for like three years made it to Game 7 of the NLCS. Giving a pass on his first season, they'll probably have a winning record all three years and missed the playoffs by a game in his second. The strategy you're suggesting is basically what they did in their two "go for it" years with Melvin and basically had the same success one season. That's not a very strong argument that his strategy isn't working. In fact, I would say that it is, because with this staff you'd think this team is far worse than it really is. But they had so many problems, the pen falling apart and some black holes on offense, that all of it together just became insurmountable. Melvin traded for two guys that were rentals...that's not what I'm talking about, at all...You have Hiura under control, he's cheap, Yelich for a couple more, Hader, Knebel, Grisham...if there was ever a time to go make a SERIOUS run at a stud starter in FA it's next year...Go ALL in on Gerritt Cole. Yes, you will have to massively overpay, but to have him anchor your staff(along with Woodruff) for the next 3 or 4 years while the talent you do have is still cheap...is the best way to do it, I think. Honestly, it was pure arrogance on Stearns's part to think that three young arms were all going to work out and they'd have a decent rotation. That was a risk he should have never taken. That was pure negligence. As was not replacing Knebel as soon as he went down. I'm just not sure how he couldn't have seen regression in guys coming...a lot of fans did. How come he didn't?? I told anyone that would listen before the season started that there was simply no way this rotation was going to work, you CANNOT possibly believe three young, inexperienced guys, and a soft tosser like Davies and a pitched way over his head Chacin was going to lead you were you wanted to go...yet for some reason he did.
