Baseball being what it is, I'm guessing league wide teams hit that poorly with RISP often enough that it isn't super rare, but 3-38 still seems awfully hard to do, and to have won all those games anyway is indeed impressive.
After already beating plenty of good teams this year, there is no reason to over interpret two 1-run losses on the road. Each teams batted ball luck could have easily fallen differently and split those 2 games.
I think part of the difficulty with Vaughn in this case is that his splits this season against lefties are just so ridiculous that it throws off our intuitions about the down side of the platoon. .467/.569/.810 makes MVP Bonds look second best.
I suspect the Brewers will decrease the list a bit with some form of deal. Wilken and O-Rae strike me as prospects I'd like to deal as players who may have a lot more value in different organizations at this point. But Williams and Adams seem like definite adds to me.
Radio team just said that 43 of Miz's strikeouts this year were on just 3 pitches. AI suggests Spencer Strider holds the single season record at 67 total
Narrowing the hole to just 1 corner of the zone is pretty huge, since it should if nothing else make it easier to layoff those pitches and wait for the pitcher to miss for a ball or end up coming down or in farther. Just as importantly in my book is showing that he can make the adjustments and is likely then to keep adapting throughout his prime years. I think he'd look really good as a primary RF now if we brought up Lara.
On the health front he is now 2 PAs shy of his career high.
Miz days look like a good time to play him at 3rd. Looking at the Spray chart I counted 9 ground balls total in the 3rd base area (I had to guess from the chart about where the line between 3rd and SS ends up). Just looking at OBP difference between Vaughn and Hamilton. If you assume just 3 Plate appearances per start while Miz is in. Hamilton gets on base 13 times compared to 18 for Vaughn. So yes it looks like the offense/defense trade off there makes sense.
Worth mentioning that the league minimum is up to 780,000 now. So my quick math indicates even a waiver wire pickup saves the Brewers almost 450K. He is owed about 2.3 million for the rest of the year.
