He has been way worse than he had been in Philadelphia, less on base and less power, needs to step it up, D. Counsell gets some of the blame for playing him too much.
I would tend to agree that Mathis will be the one to go down when Adames comes back. If they think Adames is recovering and will be back soon it is easy enough to option Mathias instead of a DFA for Dahl.
It's probably a separate thread but I doubt Hader gets traded. As long as the Brewers are contenders, which appears likely next year, there isn't much reason to trade Hader. Unlikely teams give the Brewers a large enough haul for one year to make it worth it for the Brewers.
The St. Louis Science Center is free and interesting. There is a planetarium and IMAX inside if you want to pay extra. The Missouri History Museum is also free. City Musuem is fun but won't be as much fun when raining since the rooftop and outside areas will likely be closed.
Exactly, If it is a minimal IL stint and they need a guy to eat some inning give Lindblom a start, they have certainly gave worse spot starts. Giving veteran pitchers a spot start isn't an indication of a lost season, all teams do it.
I have said enough about Hiura facing too many lefties and not enough righties. Instead of letting it drive me nuts, I'm just going to accept that is how Counsell manages and he isn't changing any time soon.
They have a couple of spots open once McCutchen is back plus Topa/Cousins could easily go on the 60 day if it ever got full. Stearns used to claim guys then remove shortly later but don't see much of that anymore. Didn't really have to remove Bettinger but I guess if confident nobody will claim better to have more flexibility. Probably should do the same with Ray.
Exactly my point. The Brewers don't play enough into his strenghts. He had good at bats in the 9th and 11th against RHP but many posters including yourself are ripping into him when facing LHP Fried. Based on history he was going to fail early in in the game.
Yes he does but the Brewers don't play into that strength against RHP and then pretty much the first couple of pages of this thread are dump him, time to move on, strike 1,2,3, etc. when he doesn't hit Max Fried
In his parts of 4 seasons in the majors he has never been able to hit lefties. If he had some success in 2021 in AAA, great, but how about the Brewers try playing him where he has actually had some success in the majors. That is not against lefties.
Obviously their right handed options are limited when Cain is batting in a key situation like yesterday but they continue to put Hiura in position to fail. He hasn't shown he can hit lefties so putting him in there against Fried is tough.
Hiura continues to have reverse splits but the Brewers seem to want to ignore it. His career OPS against RHP is still 837 and over 900 in a very small sample last year. You can't play a guy that is going to strike out 50% of the time but yeah I have no doubt Hiura would outproduce McCutchen against RHP. That might be more that McCutchen can't hit RHP and a bad signing to be an everyday DH, but still a better option if Hiura cuts down on his strikeouts.
I agree that he should spend time in AAA, see if he has continued success and can cut down on his strikeouts. I certainly think he still has value and at the very least provide a rental bat at the deadline if he continues to hit at AAA. I also disagree with the assertion that the Brewers have plenty of options at 1B in the system, it is still rather weak there if Rowdy goes down. It would also be nice to have Hiura at DH instead of of paying a veteran like McCutchen this year, who quite honestly I think Hiura would outproduce if he cut down on his strikeouts even slightly.
Peterson had a rough start the first couple of weeks but has turned it around since then. He isn't an everyday player but is a nice utility guy that has an uncanny ability to get on base. Pitcher limit reduced to 13 on May 29th so will be another position player. If they are going to move on from Cain then do so, they don't need three CF on the roster.
For those that actually watch minor league games, can Turang actually play a decent CF? Is a Taylor/Turang platoon possible until the deadline if they give up on Cain.
I love the Youtube games in the afternoon as it gives me a chance to listen/watch at work on my phone. It's really perfect for morning/afternoon games.
