  1. Thames obviously had the better year last year but really a toss up who will have the better year in 2020. A low cost option in 2021 if he has a productive year. Really starting to like the depth of this team. Just need to get the quality 3B, which I believe Stearns will be able to do.
  2. That is pretty funny when you look at it that way. I give a lot of credit to Sogard though, it could had been the end of his career but he made changes to improve himself and now is guaranteed millions more because of it.
  3. Nice call. Also, I now have the song from Moana in my head...thanks. Great, I didn't even connect the two but now I have that song in my head.
  4. I think the past issues related to his time in Detroit and rumors between him and Prince Fielder's significant other. I don't know if there has been much talk of being a clubhouse cancer since then.
  5. Yes, it is opinion. Jaylyn mentioned a couple were worth a shot. You can bring up mounds of evidence to support your opinion that they are not but it is still an opinion. Yes, a fairly decisive amount of the rule 5 eligible players will not make the major league level but I am willing to bet that some do have fine careers. FYI, Max Muncy and Jeff Mcneil are all-stars. Edit: Current Brewers catcher Omar Narvaez just acquired by the Brewers was passed over inthe rule 5 draft in the past. It would take major research to list every player ever eligible but it is not too hard to find even recent success with Brewers players or league wide.
  6. It is still an opinion. There are plenty of guys that have been rule 5 eligible that have had fine careers. They eventually received their shot and proved others wrong. It is one of the great things about sports, the players shutting up others, whether it is general managers, scouts, talking heads or fans.
  7. Correct, the Bucks never had the opportunity to draft Nowitzki. Mavericks fans play the what if game with Giannis because they did have the opportunity to pick Giannis and their GM wanted Giannis but Cuban wanted the cap space instead. It is well known that the Hawks really wanted Giannis as well with one of their two first round picks but they never had a shot since he was drafted before their picks. There are theories that Larry drew who came from the Hawks tipped the Bucks off so Giannis may have never been a Buck if Drew wasn't hired as head coach. A lot of things have to line up perfectly for a team like the Bucks to get a superstar.
  8. It is kind of odd they wouldn't protect Griep at the AAA level. He has been used as a closer pretty much since drafted and done fairly well so would seem to be a perfect guy for minor league depth.
  9. I'm going to guess the Brewers make a pick with a position player and if I had to say one guy it would be Ka'ai Tom of the Indians. Kind of reminds me of Trent Grisham, a left handed hitter that can play all three OF positions, had a power surge in 2019 that started in AA and continued in AAA and can get on base.
  10. Makes sense he is Hernan Perez 2.0 especially since Perez came from Detroit as well. Unfortunate for guys like Saladino and Perez but they lose a lot of value when they no longer have options.
  11. Then I assume you are against the election of Marvin Miller and the 30 executives, 22 managers, and 10 umpires who are in the hall of fame? That's why they are in. Just because that isn't the test to get elected doesn't mean they can't be elected if they have an impact on the history of baseball. There is a difference.
  12. Splitting at bats evenly among Hiura/Arcia/Urias would not be a wise choice but Hiura will need his days off, injuries will happen and Hiura is likely to replaced defensively many times. If they decide to keep both Arcia nd Urias there should be plenty of playing time for both and do think whoever has the hot bat among the two will get more playing time.
  13. I enjoy the NBA a lot but over the last twenty years the 3 seed has won 4 times but otherwise it is always 1 or 2 seed winning. Probably the most surprising champion being Detroit (3) in 2004. The NBA certainly has spurts where one team consistently makes the finals like the Bulls with Jordan, the Duncan/Robinson Spurs, Bryant's Lakers, the Warriors and whatever team Lebron is on. Hopefully Giannis is next.
  14. I tend to agree, maybe not keeping the player but at least taking a look.
  15. Agree with every one of these non tenders, it stinks they trade such a high pick for Claudio but glad Stearns didn't keep him to justify the trade.
  16. Uhh LOL no. This is not true. At all. Can't say definitively either way. Urias has better on base skills but he has to prove it in the majors and there are still questions regarding if he can stick at SS long term.
  17. Castellanos wanted a new contract if moved to 1B. If he signed with the Brewers I doubt he would have an issue with it.
  18. According to Baseball Reference, Lauer isn't arbitration eligible until the 2021 season & free agency for the 2025 season. That would be 5 years of control That would be 6 years of control, he hasn't reached a full year yet. Of course that can all change with a new labor agreement.
  19. It would have been a joke to propose a Grisham for Urias trade a year ago so even with that playoff mishap I have to give Grisham a ton of credit for increasing his value so much in a short span. Hopefully Ray can reward Stearns and the Brewers as well.
  20. It definitely isn't impossible to call the defense good, it is good.
  21. Right, if it is your off season plan to blow it all up that is fine but I would imagine the chances are around zero that Stears does so this off season.
  22. I hope that Bonds and Clemens get elected in the next couple of years but beyond that I don't concern my self too much with the ballot anymore. Once Harold Baines got in last year I assume most of these borderline guys like Walker/Vizquel/Helton will be pretty much guaranteed enshrinement at some point.
  23. Seems like a lot for him, I don't know if he is going to age real well. Maybe playing a majority of games at DH by year 2 or 3 so maybe Grandal does get more play at 1B down the road.
  24. Was reading a pretty extensive rule 5 article on players available at Lookout landing (Mariners) at https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2019/11/21/20973258/the-ultimate-mariners-2019-rule-5-draft-primer They list Zack Brown as the #1 player available and top 5 as: RHP Zack Brown (MIL) RHP Jordan Sheffield (LAD) RHP Sterling Sharp (WAS) RHP Alec Hansen (CWS) 1B Chris Gittens (NYY)
  25. I know someone mentioned before they though Ray had a .1% chance of being selected, disagree with that but I would put the chances of Erceg being selected at quite below .1%. Not protecting somebody from the 40 man does not mean the Brewers gave up on them. Guys like Max Muncy are left unprotected and called up in the same year.
