  1. Why hasn’t Stearns signed anyone yet?
  2. It's not being negative. It is a fact, neither Boston nor Milwaukee wanted the player they traded away. Therefore, they're garbage, surplusage, filler whatever term you want to use for a player that is on the roster that's not in the future plans. That being said I don't have a problem with the trade, the Brewers wanted to create some financial breathing room so they used their farm system to move an expensive surplus player for another team's cheaper filler. It is the spin that Renfroe is somehow an upgrade to the roster that is irritating. They went from an outfield group of Yelich, Cain, Garcia, Bradley and Taylor to Yelich, Cain, Renfroe, Taylor. It's a lateral move that only warrants 10+ pages worth of posts because there's no other Brewer news to talk about. It is an upgrade though. Prior to the trade we had Yelich, Cain, JBJ, Taylor, and whoever in the OF. Garcia was already gone and left a hole in RF. After the trade we got rid of JBJ and filled the spot vacated by Garcia for less than what we owed JBJ. Yelich, Cain, Renfroe, Taylor, and whoever is better than what we had before the trade.
  3. Here’s an article of the Reds should try to free themselves of Moose. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/should-the-reds-let-the-moose-loose.html If the Reds were to eat a bunch of the salary, would it be worth the Brewers to pick him up? It would provide some veteran leadership and some pop from a corner infield position. Plus, he was a fan favorite when he was here. It would also allow Urias to flow between the infield as well to keep his bat in the lineup. The thing is though that the Reds would likely have to eat A LOT of the salary, unless we did a JBJ-style trade and got someone else/prospects from them.
  4. The Brewers did officially announce it last night, so I would think it's a done deal. That’s true, they did actually post it on their social media, which typically they hold off on until it’s finalized. Normally that just takes a few days. I wasn’t sure if there’s physicals or anything that need to be done.
  5. So, with the work stoppage, is this trade able to be finalized or does it have to wait until any freeze is over?
  6. Better idea: Sign Kyle Seagar as the primary 3B against lefties (Urias is there against righties), have Urias spell Adames at short once a week or so, and also have him cover second for Wong if he needs a day off. Yes, I like the idea of Urias being a super-utility player, bouncing between 3B and 2B to keep him in the lineup often. I don’t want to see Wong traded if possible as his defense is amazing and I believe his contract is pretty favorable to the Brewers.
  7. I like this trade. While I don’t follow the minor leagues like a lot of you do (so I don’t have the knowledge of our prospects), we were able to acquire some offense for RF that was desperately needed and we got rid of the mistake of signing JBJ at the same time. This makes the major league team better, which is needed while we have our pitching window. Maybe the prospects will become awesome MLB players in a few years, maybe not, but for the next few years the Brewers MLB club should be better off as a result of this trade.
  8. One-year $10 million deal. Pricey! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/phillies-to-sign-corey-knebel.html
  9. I completely agree with this. If the purse strings don’t get loosened during this window to acquire some more consistent offense while we have this pitching, then it never will. Unfortunately we will have to trade some of this pitching to acquire some offense and then we won’t have the dominant pitching. Not an easy task for Brewers management to figure out. All I know is going into 2022 without any significant offensive improvements is not a viable option. I don't know about that. They didn't go to the World Series this year, but they were absolutely a World Series caliber team. Just because it didn't lead to the ultimate goal in 2021 doesn't mean the approach wasn't valid. I'm all in favor of upgrading the offense, but absolutely not if it comes at the expense of the pitching. Pitching wise, yes they were a World Series caliber team last season. I’ll disagree on the offense, and as of right now the offense is even worse with the loss of Garcia. If the plan is to use Taylor in RF and have a scrub 5th, and then have Tellez and Brousseau at 1B, then I’m going to be VERY disappointed. I don’t think that will be the case though.

  11. I’m against more playoff teams as well. Maybe I’d have been more in support when the Brewers weren’t making the postseason, but now that they’ve been making it, even the NLDS has lost some of its luster for me. It could also be a taste in my mouth knowing that the Brewers postseason runs the last year were basically going to be one-and-done series since they had no offense. I know others disagree with this thought, but unless I feel the Brewers have a legit shot at the World Series, being competitive and making the postseason isn’t enough for me. I guess this feeling comes from having some regular success, which is a testament to the Brewers front office, especially compared to the misery we had to deal with for so long prior to the mid-2000s. This is sort of like my feelings towards the Packers. It’s been great being a great team for so long, but the lack of Super Bowls is disappointing. The more continued success, the higher my expectations.
  12. I can’t stand the idea of teams picking their opponent. I hope this part doesn’t make it.
  13. To be fair, it was only really one poster griping. I guess I didn’t go back and check… seemed like more but maybe it was just the comment being included in replies. My bad.
  14. I’m surprised at how much disdain there is over losing Pina and replacing him with Severino. Would I have like to keep Pina? You bet. Do I think losing him and replacing him with Severino will make that much of a difference over the course of the season. Most likely not. I’m not worried about our catching situation. Now, if our offense isn’t improved at 1B or in the outfield (really RF), then I’ll be upset as those (primarily 1B) are our biggest holes right now.
  15. I always said, you could put a Brewers jersey on star players like these and you'd see their numbers drop. It's the inverse for Cardinals jerseys. Maybe the Brewers players should wear a Cardinals jersey under their Brewers jersey to offset this phenomenon.
  16. I don’t know if they can count on Hiura turning it around (and I’m hoping they don’t). If he doesn’t, then we are stuck with a lackluster offense coming out of 1B again. It’d be awesome if he returned to his pre-2020 offense though.
  17. I agree, although this is the year I’d like to see a splashy move at 1B. We have most of the other positions filled and I’d like to see Urias get some more time at 3B (but I’d like to see some veteran presence there too, just in case).
  18. Ok, thanks for letting me know. FYI, sentences start with capital letters as well. Thought someone should let you know. He will ignore that suggestion, just as he has for years. I know. I really don’t care, but I thought it was a jerky comment that warranted a reply.

  20. I'd rather roll the dice on 10/150 or 10/200 for Wander after 70 G | 308 PAs than 14/340 for Tatis after 143 G | 629 PAs. Gotta be hard to turn down that kind of money, but If I were Franco I'd probably wait until the CBA gets sorted out before agreeing to anything. Yeah, I agree. I forgot about that Tatis contract and how soon he was given it.
  21. I’m good with this trade. I just don’t want our roster to have like five 25th-man type players on the 25-man roster like we had quite a bit last year. I know there were injuries, but still.
  22. This is a crazy amount of money for someone with a half season of MLB experience. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/rays-rumors-wander-franco-extension-offer-record-150-200-million.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
  23. Ha! I initiated this within this thread because there were numerous other threads already doing this so I didn’t want to get hollered at for doing differently. Goes to show you can’t please everyone. FWIW, this thread was being used during the season to discuss whether or not the option would be picked up, which is part of the contract that this thread is about, so it’s isn’t really that crazy to continue on when the options were declined. I agree with the clarification in the subject though.
  24. If the Brewers make the qualifying offer and Garcia declines it, doesn’t any team that sounds him have to give a better draft pick? If the Brewers aren’t going to target any outfielders for a longer-term contract, then maybe it’s worth that gamble. At worst you have your first 4 outfielders set already.
  25. They’ve won the World Series before so it can’t be that bad…
