No, it was a weak infield hit to Wong. Wong had to make a good barehanded play to make it close. It was close too, but I think Segura was safe. Segura did a head-first slide too, which Rock chastised him for.
The only thing I can think of is that they had all views synched up, so that they could see both the tag and the touch together. There was no single, clear shot to justify the overturn. Let’s hope this is the case.
When will Counsell realize that Escobar needs to play 3B and not 1B? Kills two birds with one stone: puts Escobar in a natural position and keeps Urias from airmailing throws from 3rd. Edit: Urias would somehow need to stay in the lineup though since he’s got a great bat. I just don’t like Escobar at 1B.
Should have been a 2-1 win and secured the series. Very disappointing loss. Every loss is disheartening lately when you blow them so badly. Would rather just have a butt-kicking once in a while.
Does this loss feel worse than it really is since there was the potential for a no-hitter and the everything went downhill? To make matters worse, it was against the Pirates as well, who at this point aren’t fielding a true major-league caliber roster? Seems like this could be one of the worst losses of the season.
I was hoping to get one more decent SP, k even if just for depth. Oh well, they got one bat and two RPs. I guess that’s what was thought to be the plan from the get-go.
At least if you are a Pirate fan my age you would have the memory of 3 thrilling World Series wins to keep you going. Brewers fans my age don’t have that. And most Pirates fans are just biding time until football season anyway. Yep. I don’t feel bad for any team that has won a World Series, especially if they won it within my lifetime.
