  1. I feel that other teams fans are not looking realistically at Greinke's impact. I feel that there are perhaps 5 to 7 other pitchers I would want out there in a one game matchup...... If that is the case, some of these teams are really under-reaching when it comes to their packages....for Atlanta, a place that he is said to admire balks at including Terehan I really wonder what they are thinking.....if I was a Braves fan sitting home on October 15th looking at the very beatable Nationals moving on because Strasburg outdueled 37 year old "ace" Tim Hudson I would look back with some serious regret aimed toward Frank Wren - who supposedly is on the hot seat......Wren's inaction is going to cost him bigtime.
  2. Rogers last 3 AAA starts - 19 innings - 9 hits - 2 runs - 5 walks - 20 k's Reportedly hitting 98 on gun. That is worth a look-see
  3. Gregmag, promise you will be around brewerfan after the Greinke trade to analyze it - always appreciate your insight.....I was looking through the Hickory A ball games and they are so stocked, they have to shuttle their SS prospects back and forth from game to game so they can keep up their shortstop reps......Odor and Sardinas on the team as 18 and 19 year old high quality prospects....nice to have behind Profar, which does not mention the 19 SS that hit .332 at Hickory before being promoted.....
  4. The Rangers have a stocked system but their pitching at the top minor levels is perhaps not quite as mlb ready as they would like or be comfortable trading their top 2 for a pitcher they would have to replace shortly in Greinke. However, they are stocked to a outlandish degree in shortstops. They also have a 19 year old named Hanser Alberto that is one of the best ss prospects in the minors and an 18 year old named Rougned Odor that is an up and coming stud as well....it is amazing how well their ss pipeline is loaded.
  5. Thanks 502, Yoshii and chadomac for replying on point to the thread question.....I feel that own ownership/management feels like they are at a precipice, so to speak, as they have curried favor with the fanbase by greatly increasing competitiveness and salary and do not want to curtail that groundswell that has brought 3 million fans to the gates, and thus, allowed the salary to go towards 100 million. The problem therein is something like what the Bucks face, in that they are mediocre and do not rebuild for fear of bottoming out. Obviously, this is not solely a trade/not trade Gallardo debate, but something from a broader paradigm.
  6. Marcum Fiers Peralta Rogers Thornburg? Everyone knows that Mark A is looking to the attendance figures to some degree when determining what pieces to turn over, so would a complete overhaul to see what these youngsters can do be a disaster in terms of fan reaction? I d think it unlikely that Gallardo would be traded, but who knows? In all reality, a pitcher we get in return for Greinke will go into a rotation spot, but if we traded for higher level pitching talent with more of a late 2013 ETA would that alienate a good number of fans?
  7. If Texas is the team we deal with, expect the pitcher from UGA, Grimm, to be a part of the deal as we have been scouting him heavily according to Haudricourt.
  8. http://www.wbal.com/article/92281/40/template-story/UPDATE-Vi-Ripken-Abducted-From-Home-Last-Night Crazy story that broke regarding the abduction of the Ripken matriarch.....
  9. With all the Olt stuff that has been flying around I want to bring up a player (or two)I really like from the Red Sox as a possible return. Jackie Bradley Jr., a cf that played for 2 NCAA titles in a row for South Carolina is currently in AA after starting in A ball this year and is hitting .341 combined at the 2 levels while hitting 36 doubles, 6 homers and swiping 22 bases in 367 at bats while playing a premium position. If we could swing him and Jacob Barnes in a Greinke deal I would be extremely happy. Barnes is in Hi-A but has destroyed both levels so far.
  10. Z, I appreciate your opinion on this, but when it comes to power hitters, I am a doubles snob.....to me Olt, who is tied for 26th in the league in doubles with 15 has admirable home run power, but the bat speed that is going to be needed in the majors might not be there. To me doubles are a factor of using the lines and power alleys and bring me back to the days of Robin Yount..... Olt is leading the league in OPS, so I may have to slow my anti-Olt roll, but to me Olt is part of a package for Greinke, not a single piece, and conventional wisdom seems to be that even olt is too high an asking price. I hate being sellers. To answer TLB, a to be 24 year old in AA does not strike me as a sure thing when it comes to translating power to mlb.....it is about ability to make adjustments and bat speed as well as that innate power..... To say that he equates to 25 doubles over a full 600 at bat AA season does not hearten me at all
  11. Texas is doing a great job of riding the storm of over-valuing their prospects like the Yankees are notorious for doing. I have zero, zilch, nada idea as to why people are salivating over OLT. 24 next month, in a hitters league, no doubles power whatsoever, limited athletic ability with zero speed.....jeesh....way over-rated in my opinion. Justin Smoak part II.
  12. Ian Desmond might be done for the season with a torn oblique for Nationals....this could impact us in regard to what the Braves do as well as the Nationals......
  13. Was looking over old posts and was stunned that 9 guys from this team/picture are no longer with the Brewers.
  14. Coming back from my sabbatical just like some other posters after the password switchover.......a player like Ervin Santana has negative value because of his past inconsistency and with a 6 ERA and giving up 23 homers.....he just is a mechanical mess right now. However Hanley Ramirez is someone whose travails are mental I believe and who would do well to get out of Miami.....he is a guy that, while not defensively gifted, could transform our shortstop position for many years to come if he could get back to his .900 OPS ways, which I think he could very easily do given a different environment. Ramirez in front of Braun has the potential to be insane, and while the trade value out would be significant, the Marlins would definitely be selling low.....the monetary value would have to be mitigated in some way of course, but it can be done. This would be a risky move and those would not do it have a very solid argument, but to me the risk is close to the value of doing it, at the very least.
  15. you are brilliant on this topic pebadger, keep it coming....wish you could have a direct counterpoint onto the bylines of these goofs like Tim Brown and Passan
  16. http://www.idahopress.com/sports/national/aoki-reports-to-brewers-camp/article_07dce675-96eb-5e98-8384-3cedb297e0ad.html I kind of just wanted to post an article from the Idaho Press, but secondarily I was thinking that with Aoki (who I think is going to be a very pleasant surprise) the Brewers have the best outfield in the game with Hart, Braun and the 3 headed monster of Gomez, Plush, and Aoki. Is there a better package of outfielders out there? I truly feel this is another 90+ win team
  17. I am merely stating what should happen......Braun, Weeks, Ramirez works better to me though Weeks 2nd might be interesting too.
  18. Weeks should be our cleanup hitter this year when Braun is in the lineup......a 35 HR/110 RBI season is a possibility as we see a transition of Weeks into more of a power guy
  19. http://espn.go.com/mlb/st...ds-season-ending-surgery VMart had a great year for Tigers and this is a huge loss for them...
  20. This sexual assault allegation against Castro could really impact the longterm future of the Cubs, who are starting to put some things in place to make them a much more consistently competitive team
  21. Wow, Pirates fans HATED Veras, to a man they stated Veras was expected to be non-tendered.....Oh, and if anyone feels a need t hate Pirate fans, here is some fodder via their Braun thread http://www.pittsburghspor...&t=8034&start=10
  22. Hanley Ramirez (Traded in 3 team teal in which we send K-Rod to Boston and Jed Lawrie, Gamel and Bard go to Florida) Carlos Beltran (1 year for 8 million with Gomez backing him up in case of injury Corey Hart Ryan Braun Aramis Ramirez Rickie Weeks Gaby Sanchez(after Prince signs with Texas. Mitch Moreland goes to Florida and we get Sanchez for McGehee and Morgan) Jon Lucroy not realistic, but kinda fun
  23. Just reported via Rosenthal's twitter feed Edit: 1 year with a vesting option per Rosenthal
  24. Horrible, horrible contract.....he is going to age swiftly......man, what a joke.....in 2 years I bet his average fastball is below 86
  25. Would this be a completely outlandish idea? In the last several years Weeks has changed his defensive skillset from when he came into the league. He still makes some poor decisions and his mechanics are odd, however some of his range positives could actually apply well to the shortstop position. He has the arm and the hip rotation to make throws from short and his first step into the hole going to his right is rather amazing. His throws drifting to 2nd base would scare the crap out of me I think, but given our roster makeup and what an amazing offensive short he would provide, I thought the idea had a glimmer of interest, though I admit to feeling like I was channeling Clancyphile.
