  1. Betancourt needs to be released.....a truly negative value player.....I wish Jeff Keppenger could play short because he would be a perfect trade candidate....could Izturis be available?
  2. I was already rooting for Parra to come back and post what I think could be a really good season, and after those exceedingly mature statements, am rooting doubly hard for him
  3. Rosenthal says it's not going to happen? Welcome to Milwaukee, Nyjer! Ding ding, we have a winner....please enjoy a years supply of rice-a-roni
  4. Morgan has 30 hits in 70 appearances at Miller Park for a .429 average in those limited at bats..... Morgan should never, ever face a lefty/ his career platoon splits are dramatic, even with stlen bases - he cannot read the move of lefties.
  5. Found it interesting that Covey is the #2 starter on a pretty decent team right out of the gate. San Diego is playing very high level compitition so far, and Cvey has gone 19 innings in 3 starts against Cal, San Diego State, and Winthrop. Around a 5 ERA with a 1.3 Whip but started in 2 of their 3 victories. If Covey was in our system right now he would be our top prospect or very close to it.....

  7. Lawrie is refreshingly confident. Not arrogant; confident. It's a swagger not seen in this clubhouse in some time Dang, that's hilarious...... Lawrie makes Rush Limbaugh look self-effacing
  8. I think that Lawrie's attitude played a pretty obvious role in him being traded for a team need. Lawrie is a talented player that loves him some Brett Lawrie....Personally I enjoy rooting for players with humility and class, such as Rickie Weeks.
  9. The most recent picture of weeks is amazing...he looks like an NFL running back...just ripped....I decided it was profile worthy
  10. Rosiak is an excellent writer though I wonder if he will be spread too thin during spring training
  11. My distaste for Witrado is such that this news may actually top the Greinke trade for good Brewer news this off-season for me. I am absolutely thrilled. Breen would be a great choice as would a couple other brewcrewball contributors.
  12. Oh jeesh, great trade for the Cubs....I actually have seen Burgess a couple times in the minors and he has a great chance of breaking through and being a power hitter
  13. bikeage, thanks for replying, and I recognize that you are in that overlap group that hawing referenced. I guess the best way t answer your query is that I wuld enjoy an event that would be as Rydogg suggested, without autographs. Yes, it would bring attendance down, but as someone that is a Brewer nut that could not give a jiggy abut getting an autograph or collectible.....well, hey, for me I would love a chance at that. I will say that as a Brewer fan that lives in North Carolina (and one with time on his hands since 5 inches of snow have produced 5 days off from school here in Charlotte), I cannot go to the event in any case. I just believe that the fan focused event has gone by the wayside in favor of the autograph seeker and I think that is unfortunate.
  14. This is why collectors drive me nuts - they ruin events like this. Screw getting a freaking autograph if your are older than ten and just allow the fans that want to talk baseball with these players and get pumped up for the season enjoy having 30 past, present and future players there. I knw the collector contingent find this to be non-sensical to them, but their attendance at these events, and the Brewers catering to this faction hampers true contact with Brewer players as entities other than commodities. I remember getting to talk baseball, truly talk baseball, for two hours with Jim Powell and Cecil Cooper at an event with a grumpy Chad Fox and an addled Ray King several years back at a poorly attended Appleton event, and it was a tremendous memory. If the autograph hounds were kept away from an event like this I wonder if this on-deck event could be something just as spectacular for true fans on a grander scale.
  15. Talk to a Royals fan instead of just using metrics as you will find that Betencourt is liuke Weeks from 2 years ago.....makes insanely ridiculously good plays then screws up his footwork the next.....The people on here that are saying he is worthless should be dismissed. I think his lack of a batting eye at the plate (5th in the league at swinging at pitches out of the strike zone) could be helped by placing him in the 8 spot in front of the pitcher. By the way, Greinke has a decent swing too, making the Brewer pitchers by far the best hitting group in the NL.
  16. Boston is setting itself up to plow the Yankees this year.....I like Jenks away from Crazy Ozzie quite a bit. A bunch of things went against the Sox last year, if karma balances out, the Sox culd better the Yankees by a good ten games
  17. The state of North Carolina thanks you by the way....we( NC-where I live) get the money that the new governor turned down.....my true thought are not suited to this forum, but suffice it to say that many people are laughing at him right now.....hubris, pure hubris.
  18. I am convinced that Blue jays fans regard Marcum favorably compared to how Brewer fans regard Gallardo. That lawrie alone snagged him shocks me....
  19. From rotohardball.com comes a well done report that desvribes Marcum's change as bar far the most effective in baseball....... Let's look at just how good Marcum's 2010 season was. Here's his roto line: 13 W, 3.64 ERA, 165 K, 1.15 WHIP, 0 SV. Looking deeper, he pitched the most innings of his career (195.1) and had the highest K/9 (7.60) and lowest BB/9 (1.98) of his career which resulted in the 6th best K/BB% in the majors. Marcum's career whip is only 1.24 thanks to his consistent ability to limit walks and maintain a low batting average against (.247 career and in 2010). He's probably always going to give up 20+ homers a season in the homer-friendly Rogers Centre though many are solo shots thanks to this ability to limit baserunners. Both his career BABIP (.280) and LOB% (77.4%) are above average and if he can improve even more with his K/9 and BB/9 those numbers may only get better. Looking at BIS pitch/fx data via Fangraphs, Marcum abandoned his slider completely, throwing more fastballs and cutters to set up his devastating change-up. His change-up resulted in a swinging strike a whopping 28.1% of the time, resting at about 80-81 mph, or about 6 mph slower than his 86-87 mph fastball. According to Fangraphs, his change ranked top in the league in wCH at about 26 runs above average. That's over 5 points higher than the second best, Felix Hernandez's 18.7. The improvements Shaun Marcum made in 2010 after missing over a year, coupled with his dominance in the first half of 2008 make me a serious believer that lands him within top 25 SP territory for me. Some may be weary, and some may even take fellow pitching standouts Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow first, especially in keeper leagues. Toronto has a wealth of useful pitching and Marcum does have two years left of arbitration which increases his trade value. If Toronto does resign him, he should be considered their ace. The question remains: Will he be drafted like it?
  20. According to Over the Monster: The Padres will receive Red Sox prospects Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, and Reymond Fuentes in return Interesting....no Kalish
  21. Just imagine if we trade Fielder, Braun, and a reliever for Lester, Bucholz and Lars Anderson Holy smokes....has there ever been a trade like this in the history of baseball? This is not realistic....This goes back to my previous point - which kramnoj completely subverted - trade speculation of the type that Gammons and perhaps Witrado are throwing out there is a disservice to the Brewers as a whole as it effects the teams stabilty, and apparently, the mental stability of a fanbase as well.
  22. this new ootp forum is great..... Gammons is a puppet and has been for over a decade. There is a reason I loathe the Red Sox even more than the Yankees and revelled in their injuries and falling behind the Rays. No team gets to manipulate the media more than the Red Sox and in today's day and age of immediate communication it is a powerful tool. The fact that Braun's agent had to respond to it is telling, and now Braun has it in his head that there is a suitor that wants him that may be more attractive - that's crud in my eyes and extremely dirty pool. Melvin is too nice of a guy....I would be in Andrew Jackson's grill over this for sure.
  23. Obviously King Felix. He's better and signed longer. I would agree, and hope that Jack Z and the newly appointed Ted Simmons have an unhealthy obsession with a certain minor league 2nd baseman of ours. Even with a boatload of other talent i doubt it occurs, but then again, rumors were that Melvin was once close to acquiring Felix in the past.
  24. If I had the computer knowledge i think I would start colbyjackfan.net. Right on the money analysis. Just for the sake of inquiry, and to make this more than just a fanboy post, who has the greatest trade value (to the Brewers), Greinke or King Felix?
